| 2024 | The impact of personality and self-efficacy on domain modeling productivity in graphical and textual notationsabstractSoftware development is a complex and human-intensive activity, where human factors can have a significant impact on productivity and quality of results. To address the complexity of software, domain modeling has gained much importance, mainly due to software methodologies such as Model-Driven Engineering and Domain-Driven Design. In particular, domain modeling is an essential task that allows developers to understand and effectively represent the problem domain. However, domain modeling productivity can be affected by several human factors, including developers' personality and self-efficacy. The study aims to explore the influence of human factors, specifically developers' personality and self-efficacy, on domain modeling productivity in graphical and textual notations. An empirical controlled study was conducted with 134 third-year computer science students from the University of Alicante, guided by the definition of a theoretical model based on previous studies. The participants were tasked with creating domain models in both graphical and textual notations. The order in which the notations were used was randomized, and the participants were given different system specifications to model. After modeling, 98 participants completed questionnaires assessing their personality, self-efficacy, and notation satisfaction. The design and evaluation of the experiment employed the Goal, Question, and Metrics framework. Data analysis was performed using a stepwise selection method to select the most appropriate regression model. The study indicates that personality and self-efficacy have a significant impact on the performance of junior domain model developers. Specifically, it was discovered that while neuroticism had a negative impact on efficiency in both notations, developers' ability belief and use of graphical notation had a positive influence on effectiveness and efficiency in creating domain models. These findings highlight the importance of considering human factors and notation choice in software development. Developers' personality and self-efficacy emerge as critical considerations for enhancing both productivity and quality in domain modeling. Santiago Meliá, Raymari Reyes, Cristina Cachero |

| 2008 | A Model-Driven Development for GWT-Based Rich Internet Applications with OOH4RIAabstractTraditionally, Web applications have had great limitations in the usability and interactivity of their user interfaces. To overcome these limitations, a new type of Web applications called Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) has recently appeared providing richer and more efficient graphical components similar to desktop applications. However, RIAs are rather complex and their development requires the designing and implementation tasks which are time-consuming and error-prone. Moreover, RIA development is a new challenge for the Web engineering methodologies requiring their modification and the introduction of other concerns. In this context, we propose a new approach called OOH4RIA which proposes a model-driven development process that extends OOH methodology. It introduces new structural and behavioural models in order to represent a complete RIA and to apply transformations that reduce the effort and accelerate its development. This RIA will be implemented on the promising Google Web Toolkit (GWT) framework. Santiago Meliá, Jaime Gómez, Sandy Pérez, Oscar Díaz 0001 |

| 2008 | Facing Interaction-Rich RIAs: The Orchestration ModelabstractPromptness, efficiency and stickiness are among the advantages exhibited by the new crop of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs). These advantages came at the cost of increasing the complexity of development. Additionally, the plethora of RIA frameworks can lock this code into a specific platform. This scenario advises for using model-driven development (MDD). This paper focuses on interactionrich RIAs by addressing two issues: (1) interaction dependencies among widgets, and (2) grouping of widgets into Ajax pages. These concerns are captured in the Orchestration Model. MDD wise, OO-H metamodels accounts for the PIMs whereas Google Web Toolkit is the selected PSM. During transformation, a "message broker" pattern is introduced to decouple widgets from their dependencies. When Ajax pages are generated, heuristics are introduced to find a balance between communication overhead, presentation readiness and maintainability. A running example is used throughout. | 2007 | Towards improving the navigability of Web applications: a model-driven approachabstractNavigability in use, defined as the efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction with which a user navigates through the system in order to fulfil her goals under specific conditions, has a definite impact on the overall success of Web applications. This quality attribute can be measured based on the navigational model (NM) provided by Web engineering (WE) methodologies. Most of the measures currently defined for NMs are tightly coupled with particular WE methodologies, however. Furthermore, modifications to the design of the NM, carried out with the aim of improving navigability, are performed manually. Both practices have seriously hampered the reusability and adoption of proposed navigability measures and improvement techniques. In this paper, we present a Model-Driven Engineering approach to solving these problems. On the one hand, we propose a generic approach for the definition of navigability measurement models that can be integrated into any WE methodology. On the other hand, we present a model-driven improvement process for the NM design that incurs no increase in costs or in time-to-market of Web applications. This process is divided into two phases: evaluation (i.e. assessment of the model through objective measures) and evolution (i.e. transformation of the model when the measurement results do not fall inside the boundaries set by certain quality decision criteria that have been defined previously).
