Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain are complex digital technologies characterized by a strong connection and dependency between individuals, data, and information technology (IT). A socio-technical perspective that captures the dynamic interaction of social, legal, and technical artifacts is essential to understanding the IoT and blockchain phenomena. This review provides direction for employing a social-technical perspective across IoT and blockchain studies. The findings lead to new insights for developing a theoretical framework, research model, and research agenda to investigate IoT and blockchain technology. Practitioners and institutions can use these findings to develop strategies to promote the adoption of IoT and blockchain technologies through specific technical, legal, and social strategies. Overall, this research is unique in its attempt to trace new trajectories for future IS scholars and practitioners facing the complexity of IoT and blockchain.

Seeking benefits such as the satisfaction of social relationship needs and well-being, SNS users engage two distinct but related privacy behaviors: (1) Information and (2) Interaction privacy behaviors. The privacy literature has mainly focused on the effect of information privacy and overlooked the role of interaction privacy behaviors. To fill these gaps, we examined a theoretical model explaining the direct and indirect interrelationships among self-disclosure (information privacy behavior), the use of interaction privacy controls (IPCs) (interaction privacy behavior), and two major potential benefits from using SNSs – relatedness needs satisfaction and subjective well-being. The findings suggest that the two privacy behaviors affect all expected outcomes, but to significantly varying levels of intensity. They also indicate that the two privacy behaviors are closely related.

Individual creativity plays a crucial role in forming perception and acceptance of a new technology. To explore this important and yet overlooked topic, we developed a model by adopting Amabile’s componential theory of individual creativity, which identifies three preconditions for creativity: (1) Creative ability, (2) Intrinsic motivation, and (3) Prior knowledge. We conducted an empirical study to validate our research model using Bitcoin as an emerging information technology. The study confirmed that all three components significantly impact the perception of and attitude toward an emerging technology. A better understanding of creative individuals can help firms improve their innovation potential.

This research investigates the social, legal, and technological factors that affect the adoption of Internet of Things wearable devices (WIoT) among young adults during and before a healthcare crisis. The study develops a technological acceptance model by integrating the Technological-Personal-Environmental (TPE) framework with new constructs, i.e. regulatory environment, epidemic ecosystem, perceived social usefulness, and WIoT devices’ technical characteristics. A research survey is developed and distributed to undergraduate and graduate students in a major university located in the USA. The research hypotheses are tested by using partial least square modeling. Results of the analysis lead to significant contributions for both academics and practitioners.

Mobility is the new reality of business and stands to have a significant impact on the implementation of mobile computer-mediated communication (mCMC), such as mobile texting, mobile video, and mobile presence. Information systems researchers are faced with the challenge of how to design these artifacts to maximize the benefits of social interaction among potential communication partners. We develop a theoretical model that examines the relationship between user experience, perceived richness, perceived social presence, interactivity, and satisfaction in mCMC. Findings suggest that user experience, perceived richness and interactivity are important in the design of social presence in mCMC. Both social presence and perceived richness influenced user satisfaction with mCMC. The influence is greater in mobile instant messaging than mobile texting.
