| 2026 | Xemis: Fair and Robust Privacy-Preserving Data Trading based on Distributed Noise SharingabstractPrivacy-preserving data trading allows data owners to sell data to consumers through a data trading web platform, the data market, without disclosing sensitive information in raw data. It enables legitimate data transmission and aggregation, facilitating large-scale data-driven model training. However, existing differential privacy-based approaches struggle to inject precisely calibrated noise in a trustworthy manner without revealing raw data to a third party, thus making them fail in achieving strong fairness and controllable privacy simultaneously, especially when facing malicious external adversaries or a corrupted data market. | 2022 | Verifiable data streaming with efficient update for intelligent automation systemsabstractThe wide deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) devices enables the controller to continuously collect massive volume data in automation systems, and makes it possible to make intelligent decisions based on machine learning techniques. In fact, data-driven intelligent automation systems have been common in the industrial community. Nevertheless, how to effectively store the collected stream data and ensure their integrity is still challenging. To this end, the notion of verifiable data streaming (VDS) protocol, which enables a client to outsource the stream data to an untrusted server in a verifiable manner, was introduced. However, we argue that existing VDS protocols based on the chameleon authentication tree (CAT) are inefficient in the data update, since the whole CAT must be updated accordingly to avoid acute exposure of chameleon hashing. Thus, they are infeasible for intelligent automation systems that need to frequently update data. In this article, we first introduce a new primitive called double-trapdoor chameleon hash tree (DCHT) based on the double-trapdoor chameleon hash families, where each leaf of DCHT is calculated and fixed by using a double-trapdoor chameleon hash family, making the entire DCHT always unchanged. Furthermore, we propose a novel VDS protocol based on the DCHT. Due to the distinctive properties of the underlying DCHT, the proposed VDS protocol has a constant update cost and more efficient than previous VDS protocols based on CAT. Besides, we prove that the proposed VDS protocol is secure in the standard model. Meixia Miao, Jianghong Wei, Kuanching Li, Willy Susilo |

| 2021 | New proofs of ownership for efficient data deduplication in the adversarial conspiracy modelabstractThe primitive of proofs of ownership (PoWs) enables a prover to efficiently convince a verifier that he/she indeed owns a certain message in a knowledge-proof manner. As a result, it can prevent an adversary who only has a short information of the message from accessing the whole one. We argue that the existing PoWs based on Merkle hash tree and specific encodings are not much efficient if the size of message is sufficiently huge. In this paper, we first propose a new PoW protocol based on the chameleon hash function without key exposure. Interestingly, it is equivalent to having the prover compute a new collision of chameleon hashing as the proof in our construction. Therefore, the proposed protocol is much efficient since the computation and storage overhead of proof is independent of the size of the message. Moreover, we utilize the proposed PoWs to design a deduplication scheme over ciphertext. Meixia Miao, Guohua Tian, Willy Susilo |

| 2021 | Publicly Verifiable Databases With All Efficient Updating OperationsabstractThe primitive of verifiable database (VDB) can enable a resource-limited client to securely outsource an encrypted database to an untrusted cloud server and the client could efficiently retrieve and update the data at will. Meanwhile, the client can undoubtedly detect any misbehavior by the server if the database has been tampered with. We argue that most of the existing VDB schemes can only support the updating operation of replacement, rather than other common updating operations such asinsertionanddeletion. Recently, the first publicly verifiable VDB schemes that supports all updating operations was proposed based on the idea of hierarchical vector commitment. However, one disadvantage of the proposed VDB scheme is that the computation and storage complexity increases linearly when the client continually inserts data records in the same index of the database. As a result, it remains an open problem how to construct an efficient (and publicly verifiable) VDB scheme that can support all updating operations regardless of the manner of insertion. In this paper, we first introduce a new primitive called committed invertible Bloom filter (CIBF) and utilize it to propose a new publicly verifiable VDB scheme that can support all kinds of updating operations. Additionally, the proposed construction is efficient regardless of the manner of updating operations and thus provides an affirmative answer to the above open problem. | 2014 | Linkable Ring Signature with Unconditional AnonymityabstractIn this paper, we construct a linkable ring signature scheme with unconditional anonymity. It has been regarded as an open problem in [22] since 2004 for the construction of an unconditional anonymous linkable ring signature scheme. We are the first to solve this open problem by giving a concrete instantiation, which is proven secure in the random oracle model. Our construction is even more efficient than other schemes that can only provide computational anonymity. Simultaneously, our scheme can act as an counterexample to show that [19, Theorem 1] is not always true, which stated that linkable ring signature scheme cannot provide strong anonymity. Yet we prove that our scheme can achieve strong anonymity (under one of the interpretations). Joseph K. Liu, Man Ho Au, Willy Susilo, Jianying Zhou 0001 |
