| 2025 | Leveraging Human Resource Practices to Retain Librarians' Knowledge in Selected Public University Libraries in UgandaabstractThis study explored the role of human resource (HR) practices in retaining librarians' knowledge within Uganda's public university libraries. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach with an exploratory sequential design, the research examined selected libraries through qualitative interviews with university librarians. These interviews informed a questionnaire administered to 67 professional librarians to gather quantitative data. Findings revealed that while HR practices are essential for mitigating knowledge loss and supporting retention, challenges such as rigid public service guidelines, and underutilized succession planning hinder their effectiveness. Additionally, the lack of a formal knowledge retention strategy further limits these practices. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for formalized knowledge retention strategies that integrate HR practices to enhance knowledge management and address identified gaps from recruitment to retention, aligning with previous research on talent management and staff development in library settings. | 2024 | KMS Infrastructure for KM Practice in Two Mobile Telecommunication Companies in NamibiaabstractKnowledge management system infrastructure is at the forefront of knowledge management practice. Knowledge must be identified, captured, and shared to improve KM practices; however, little is known about the successful implementation of KMS infrastructure by Namibian mobile telecommunications companies. This mixed-methods research study employed a convergent parallel design and parallel sampling techniques. Three hundred and nine online questionnaires were distributed to a representative sample, with a response rate of 57%. Computer software packages were used to analyse quantitative data quantitatively, and qualitative data from interviews with 11 participants and analysis of documents were analysed thematically. Findings showed that infrastructure, management support, and employee participation were necessary for a successful KMS infrastructure implementation for effective and efficient KM practices. The study provides MT companies with a foundational understanding of how the infrastructure for KMS is essential for effective and efficient KM practice. Mishake Mubuyaeta, Patrick Ngulube |

| 2022 | Knowledge Sharing and the Improvement of Service Delivery in an Academic LibraryabstractKnowledge can play an important role in ascertaining an organization’s competitive edge if the knowledge of employees is nurtured and utilized as an asset with a potential to improve service delivery. The study focused on knowledge sharing at the Thomas Mofolo Library in Lesotho to determine if knowledge sharing was being used to improve service delivery at the Library. A case study design that triangulated interviews and questionnaires was used in this study. Quantitative data was processed using software packages. Data from the interviews was analyzed through content analysis based on the objectives of the study. This study established that staff recognized the need to share knowledge. However, knowledge sharing occurred on an ad hoc basis. There was a limited use of technology-based and human-based mechanisms of sharing knowledge. The study suggests practical knowledge-sharing practices that may contribute to improved service delivery in a library setup. As a case study, study may also contribute to the development of theory about the phenomenon. Tseole Emmanuel Tahleho, Patrick Ngulube |

| 2019 | Mapping Methodological Issues in Knowledge Management Research, 2009-2014abstractBy drawing on the nuances in methodological research literature, this qualitative content analysis study investigated the research procedures employed in knowledge management (KM) research between 2009 and 2014, to gain an understanding of the methodological choices made by KM researchers. In total, 989 articles published in five leading KM-centric journals were reviewed. The results revealed that KM research utilised a variety of research procedures. The predominance of positivist epistemologies varied across the five journals, but mixed methods research was not prevalent. True to the interpretivist presuppositions of this study, these results are not definitive. Deploying multi-methods may result in a deeper understanding of the use of research procedures in the field. The value of this study lies in the fact that it will lead to greater knowledge of research methodologies in the subject field and provide a baseline for future studies that have an interest in reflecting on context-specific methodological practices.
