2021 Personalized Virtual Campus Journey Adaptation to User Controlled Experience
abstract
Increasingly, educational institutes are migrating into mobile platforms and mobile app technology to communicate, advertise, and dissimilate education-related information to their stakeholders using virtual campus journey mobile apps. Campus journey mobile apps generally provide standardized generic customization to their user base, incorporating a list of favorite touchpoints based on the users’ frequent behaviors. In the literature, personalization, and customization, definitions are mixed-up and inter-changed with no proper separation of these two concepts. In this research, the personalized virtual journey is examined according to the user’s preference. It includes creating and updating the personalized virtual campus journey path as an activity of the user and having it as an integral part of the personalized virtual campus journey application. This research presents the concept structure, design, implementation, and evaluation results of the personalized virtual campus journey mobile app development according to the user’s preferences with the user given the ability to control his or her own virtual journey experience.

2021 Quality Characteristics for User-Generated Content
abstract
Today, vast amounts of data are collected from the internet, and the general public generates most data using social networks. There is a need to have a comprehensive approach to characterize the quality of such user-generated data collection from the internet. The data quality characteristics accepted among database and computer science communities have definitions that are not domain-specific. Therefore, there is no clear understanding of the data quality characteristics specific to user-generated content. This research examines different user-generated content platforms against the general data quality characteristics to determine which quality characteristics are essential for user-generated content. The research contributes to a list of definitions of those data quality characteristics specific to user-generated content. These definitions help identify quality characteristics useful for user-generated content platforms and their implementations. The quality of the content of Atlas of Living Australia, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia, and WalkingPaths is evaluated to assess the essence of the quality characteristics defined in this research.

2021 An Analysis Method for Heating Network Leaks Monitoring
abstract
Modern district heating (DH) systems are complex engineering structures that play an essential role in large city infrastructures. DH networks have many sensors, nodes, and methods for monitoring the status of the DH network. Sensing, processing, analytical actuation (SPA) of incoming information handled by the SPA semantic Computing method can be applied to similar problems. The SPA Semantic Computing method searches for correlations between the sets of incoming data and to identify the correct scenario to respond to events. This article explores the integration of SPA functions to analyze multivariate sensing data, including data from multivariable sensors and infrared images, for creating a monitoring system for DH networks. The focus is to assess whether the SPA approach is a suitable candidate to use to monitor the emergency events of the DH network. Specific target data for the assessment are [1] multi-parameter DH network sensor data, such as water temperature, sweat rate, energy delivered, etc., and [2] infrared image data from a camera mounted on the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for monitoring the location of the underground DH network leaks. A multivariate computational model, a mathematical model of meaning (MMM), and a spatial image filtering method are proposed for integrating SPA semantic computing for emergency leak detection in DH networks.

2020 Conceptualization of Aviation Cabin Crew's Fatigue Risk Assessment
abstract
Airlines are of great importance to the transportation sector. With the increase in commercial air travel, airlines require extra flight crews. Aviation industry’s cabin crewmembers are faced with working overtime, working in shifts and long working hours. The shift system causes fatigue for flight crews. Fatigue is of critical importance in the aviation industry. Depending on the physical and psychological fatigue, explicit or implicit results appear. There are a number of approaches in the aviation industry to prevent fatigue. When previous studies are examined, there are few studies examine in the general, and aviation crew’s fatigue treat both pilots and cabin crew alike. The relationship between cabin crew’s fatigue-to-fatigue risk management systems, key fatigue-causing factors, tools to alarm fatigue, and outcome assessments are non-existent. However, various difficulties are encountered in measuring the cabin crews fatigue levels and measurements and are often subjective and not reliable. Therefore, the aim of this study is to create a concept map to be integrated into the aviation cabin crew’s fatigue risk assessment application design and implementation in order to arrive at a comprehensive fatigue risk assessment tool for the aviation industry.

2020 Augmented Reality for Human Needs: An Ontology
abstract
Augmented Reality is a display and interaction method of future computing. It augments digital information in real environments in text, audio, image, or video formats. Augmented reality can be more effective if supported by knowledge about human needs. Basic human needs are finite in number, and with the right methods, they are detectable or predictable. This research develops an ontology that describes the structure and relations between the elements of augmented reality, context information, and human needs, with the ultimate goal of developing a robust conceptual model. Ontology development is a knowledge-driven approach used to represent data and reasoning. This paper focuses on linking the aforementioned concepts to enable correct data representation and reasoning. The research approach, process used, and the evaluation of the ontology is presented as well.

2019 Improving Data Quality, Privacy and Provenance in Citizen Science Applications
abstract
Citizen science project applications can be created in two different ways: use an existing platform or build them from scratch. When creating applications for citizen science projects, data quality, privacy and provenance are important characteristics of such applications. Therefore, the objective of this research is to find out how well data quality, privacy and provenance are handled in ongoing citizen science projects. A number of citizen science projects have been compared against ISO/IEC 25012 data quality standard characteristics. Results show that data quality is mostly lacking in the areas of accuracy, privacy, provenance and availability. Projects have not implemented decent accuracy checks when giving data, projects show the real name and location of participants and such data should not be available to others. Management of provenance is not found in many projects but where it is found, provenance is either really well or extremely poorly handled. Many of these issues could be easily solved with proper data management and testing. At the end of this article, multiple suggestions are given to improve data quality, provenance and privacy in citizen science project applications.

2017 Customer Experience Evaluation in the Omnichannel Environment
abstract
The omnichannel strategy allows the customer to have the same experience through multiple different channels, which can greatly improve the customer experience and thus benefit businesses. This research paper studies the evaluation of customer experience in the omnichannel environment. Very little research about it exists as it is quite a new business model. Therefore, a systematic literature review was conducted to find as much relevant data as possible and analyse the results systematically. 42 channels, 97 customer experience factors and 34 tools or methods are found from 19 different studies and categorized accordingly. All the connections between the extracted data are discovered by processing it with a relations visualizing tool. This way it enables to see how everything is connected and which topics are the most common in the included studies. Finally, from the findings, this research proposes a conceptual model linking all the parts of this research together to create a basic outline for customer experience evaluation in the omnichannel environments.

2003 Methodology Evaluation Framework for Component-Based System Development
abstract
Components are already prominent in the implementation and deployment of advanced distributed information systems. Part and parcel of this development are the effective Component Based Development (CBD) methodology encompassing methods, tools and techniques that effectively target the existing component based technology. Current CBD methodologies lack a comprehensive component-based concept structure. They handle components mainly at the implementation and deployment phases still, which are heavily influenced by UML notations. In this paper a presentation is made of an evaluation framework, which highlights the extent to which a methodology is component oriented. Current CBD methods and approaches do not provide full support for various component concepts. Therefore, a CBD method sample was evaluated using the framework’s concepts and requirements. CBD method improvements are proposed based on the evaluation. The improved approach suggests the use of the standard RM-ODP as an underlying framework, to provide consistent, systematic, and integrated CBD methodology engineering support throughout the lifecycle.
