Organizations whose employees participate in risky cybersecurity behaviors (RCySecB) could suffer disastrous consequences either directly or indirectly from actions linked to such behaviors. This study used conceptualizations facilitated by Attribution Theory to examine the effects of dispositional factors (self-control and knowledge of IS security threats/risks and their potential consequences) and situational factors (security, education, training, and awareness (SETA) programs and computer monitoring) in reducing employee participation in RCySecB. Data was collected from a survey of working professionals in India, and relevant hypotheses were formulated. The PLS technique was used for data analysis. This study investigated the direct effects of the factors on the dependent construct and analyzed the interacting effects of the constructs as well. The results indicate that all factors reduce employee participation in RCySecB. However, the joint effects of the situational factor elements and the dispositional factor of personal knowledge security threats/risks and their potential consequences were insignificant in the model.

Employee engagement in unhygienic cyber practices (UCP) is a concern for organizations across the world. The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of personal and environmental factors in decreasing workers’ engagement in UCP in a developing country: A personal-environment-behavior model was adapted for the study. Data was collected from working MBA students in Ethiopia. The key results show that the personal factor of self-regulation related to acceptable cyber practices decreases workers’ engagement in UCP, while self-efficacy did not. The environmental factor of computer monitoring (CM) decrease workers’ engagement in UCP, while the availability of security education and training awareness (SETA) programs did not. Both CM and SETA have positive effects in improving self-efficacy. Only SETA programs positively impact self-regulation. This study adds to the understanding of end-user security behavior by focusing on UCP with insights from a developing country.

This paper examines and uncovers the key drivers of e-participation progress or growth over the years, globally and regionally. The authors used fixed-effects regression model on a panel data of variables gathered by reputable world organizations for an 8-year period – one of the largest examined to date. They tested a research model including GDP per capita, ICT infrastructure, secondary education enrolment, technological knowledge creation and outputs, and six governance indicators: voice and accountability, political stability, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption. At the global level, the results indicate that e-participation progress is positively influenced by voice and accountability, GDP per capita, and ICT infrastructure. Analyses based upon six geographical regions of the world and countries' income-level classifications (i.e., low, low-middle, high-middle, high) show that determinants of e-participation progress vary by geographical and income-level contexts.
