2024 Antecedents and Outcomes of Blockchain Technology Adoption: Meta-Analysis
abstract
This study examines the organizational adoption of blockchain technology (BCT) by synthesizing empirical findings reported in 37 studies using a meta-analysis of bivariate relationships. An extended technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework is applied to examine the antecedents and outcomes of BCT adoption. Our results show that various technological, organizational, and environmental factors influence BCT adoption, including technology compatibility, perceived ease of use, top management support, and coercive pressure. Overall, technological factors had a stronger impact than organizational and environmental factors concerning BCT adoption. Further, our analysis identifies the outcomes of BCT adoption, including improvements in operational performance, innovation capability, and sustainability. BCT adoption has the strongest impact on operational performance. Our study contributes to the existing literature by offering a comprehensive and synthesized overview of the antecedents and outcomes of BCT adoption.

2024 SME Performance Through Blockchain Technologies
abstract
Blockchain technology has the potential to impact the performance of small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs). A theoretical model using Technology-Organization-Environment framework and Resource-based View was developed to examine Blockchain-driven SME business performance. The model was empirically tested using structural equation modeling techniques on data gathered from 320 practitioners in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. The technological and organizational contexts for Blockchain influenced organizational commitment while top management support for Blockchain influenced organizational transparency, both of which influenced Smart SMEs resulting in enhanced performance. Social media visibility moderated the effect of Smart SMEs on performance. The findings offer several implications for research and practice.

2023 Models of Information Technology Use: Meta-Review and Research Directions
abstract
The considerable body of literature on information technology (IT) use is grounded in different theoretical perspectives and the models have seemingly increased the variance explained in the two major dependent constructs – behavioral intention (BI) and system use (SU). However, not all effects on BI and SU have been significant and the models of IT use have been examined in different contexts. This study conducts a two-part assessment of 35 models of IT use including a qualitative assessment of the model constructs using the STEP (System, Task, Environment, Person) framework and a quantitative assessment of the differences in model effectiveness across models of IT use. Results showed no statistical differences in the proportion of significant effects on BI and SU, but significant differences in the proportion of variance explained in BI and SU. Implications and future directions for research are proposed.

2023 Task Dependence and External Control Constraints in Technology Acceptance
abstract
Information system (IS) acceptance has received considerable attention in prior research using a variety of dependent variables (DVs) representing intentions and behaviors. This study proposes that task dependence and external control determine the extent of flexibility in IS use faced by individuals. Using a 2 × 2 framework, this study argues that flexibility is high when both task dependence and external control are low while flexibility is low when either task dependence or external control is high. Further, this study suggests that: a) both intention and behavior DVs may be appropriate when flexibility is high, b) adoption and system use may be most appropriate when flexibility is low, and c) the antecedents of adoption and system use need to account for task dependence and external control. This study provides a review of the adoption and system use constructs in recent literature on IS acceptance and offers potential directions for future research.

2023 Expectation-Reality Gap in Information Technology Discontinuance Intention
abstract
Discontinuance intention has been reported as a major concern in the context of manufacturing SMEs. This study examines why user SMEs decide to discontinue the incumbent technology. The study employed the theoretical lens of diffusion of innovation theory, disenchantment-enchantment model, and technology-organization-environment model to develop an integrated Expectation-Reality gap (E-R gap) framework. The research model was examined using data gathered through a cross-sectional survey of 300 SMEs in the Indian manufacturing industry. We found E-R gap in compatibility, technology cost, government support, and ease of use are key reasons for the post-adoption disenchantment of SMEs. Further, we found that disenchanted SMEs’ discontinuance intentions are quite strong, and they are more likely to quit from adopted technology shortly. Information systems (IS) researchers can extend the E-R gap model to assess the phenomena of discontinuance intentions in other NIE contexts. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

2023 Evolution of Information Systems Business Value Research: Topic Modeling Analysis
abstract
Information Systems Business Value (ISBV) has been a key research topic within the information systems discipline through time. Over the last three decades, ISBV research has dealt with various aspects such as the type of relationships, research methods, theoretical foundations, influencing factors, and measurement issues. This research applies topic modeling on the abstracts of 2824 articles published between 1990 and 2020. Results show that topics such as IS management, IS implementation, and IS public services had endured over time; topics such as IS strategy and IS design had initially gained and then lost traction; and topics such as IS social practices, IS emerging services, and IS sustainability have gained momentum in recent years. Further, ISBV research tends to examine specific and emerging IS tools, technologies, and applications such as Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and business analytics, and seems poised for greater focus on IS sustainability in the near future.

2022 Exploration and Exploitation in Organizational Cybersecurity
abstract
This study examines the cybersecurity responses by organizations to threats. Based on the notions of exploration and exploitation, this study developed a 2 × 2 matrix to characterize organizational actions as Surviving, Investigating, Reinforcing, and Balancing. Using textual data gathered from the annual 10–K reports of 87 organizations, this study mapped the explorative and exploitative behaviors of organizations and characterized the cybersecurity responses with the 2 × 2 matrix. This study also identified the changes in cybersecurity responses over multiple time periods, and the patterns of shifts between the quadrants in the 2 × 2 matrix as organizations adapted their cybersecurity responses over time. Several implications for research and practice are discussed.

2020 Differential effects on assimilation stages for supply chain management information systems
abstract
The assimilation of Supply chain management information systems (SCM-ISs) is a complex phenomenon extending over multiple stages such as intention, adoption, internal integration, and external integration, which are influenced by various technological, organizational, inter-organizational, and environmental factors. This study explores the differential effects of various factors on assimilation stages. This study uses meta-analysis technique to quantitatively synthesize prior research data to determine the differential effects of factors on assimilation stages. In total, 400 findings on 40 relationships involving 11 factors and four stages of SCM-IS assimilation were used to conduct 29 Z-tests to determine the differential effects of factors on stages. Our findings show that organizations will benefit from attention to different factors at different stages of the assimilation process in efforts to incorporate SCM-ISs into their strategies and operations. Findings of the study are useful to managers as they navigate the process of assimilating SCM-ISs in their operations.

2013 Content Acceptance Model and New Media Technologies
abstract
New Media technologies such as social networking and video sharing used today are aimed at individuals and seem to offer utilitarian and hedonic value to users. Unlike classical information technologies, New Media technologies rely on user-generated content and generally take users through the stages of trial, adoption, and use. Prior literature on technology acceptance provides an understanding of how users engage with information systems and the individual, technology, and environmental factors that influence adoption and use. However, little is known about the combination of trial, adoption, and use stages and how the content of information technologies impact behavior. A qualitative analysis of data gathered via in-depth semi-structured interviews with 80 individuals leads us to the Content Acceptance Model (CAM) for understanding trial, adoption, and use in the context of New Media technologies.
