| 2025 | How to Support Health Care Professionals in EmergenciesabstractIn recurring emergencies, frontline health care professionals (HCPs) have taken on a dual responsibility of not only serving as medical professionals for patients but also disseminating medical knowledge online for the public to alleviate their anxiety. They are expected to perform both online and offline organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). However, HCPs carry out their duties with high risks, inhibiting their OCB. This study aims to understand how to effectively and efficiently integrate online and offline support to facilitate HCP’s online and offline OCB in recurring emergencies. Data was collected from a survey among HCPs amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic from March to April 2021. It was found that perceived support helps promote HCPs’ OCB through increasing optimism and resilience. Moreover, offline problem-focused support is more helpful than online emotion-focused support for HCPs with more knowledge of the emergency. Xiaodie Pu, Alain Yee-Loong Chong, Zhao Cai |

| 2023 | ICT, Financial Development and Renewable Energy ConsumptionabstractThis study examines the relationships between ICT (information and communication technology), financial development, and renewable energy consumption using data from a panel of 35 countries during the 1996–2018 period. The results from the moderating effect and panel threshold models suggest the following outcomes. (i) Both ICT and financial development promote renewable energy consumption. (ii) ICT moderates the relationship between financial development and renewable energy consumption. (iii) The relationship between financial development and renewable energy consumption has a significant threshold effect when ICT is used as the threshold variable, such that increasing ICT enhances the promoting effect of financial development on renewable energy consumption. (iv) Economic development, trade openness, and urbanization positively affect renewable energy demand during the sample period, whereas environmental deterioration and technological progress do not promote renewable energy consumption. Therefore, when formulating policies for renewable energy development, governments should strengthen the integration of ICT with financial development. Minli Yu, Hejie Zhang, Alain Yee-Loong Chong |

| 2019 | Business Intelligence Effectiveness and Corporate Performance Management: An Empirical AnalysisabstractBusiness intelligence (BI) technologies have received much attention from both academics and practitioners, and the emerging field of business analytics (BA) is beginning to generate academic research. However, the impact of BI and the relative importance of BA on corporate performance management (CPM) have not yet been investigated. To address this gap, we modeled a CPM framework based on the Integrative model of IT business value and on information processing theory. Data were collected from a global survey of senior managers in 337 companies. Findings suggest that the more effective the BI implementation, the more effective the CPM-related planning and analytic practices. BI effectiveness is strongly related to BA, planning and to measurement. In contrast, BA effectiveness is strongly related to planning but less so to measurement. The study suggests that although both BI and BA contribute to corporate management practices, the information needs are different based on the level of uncertainty versus ambiguity characteristic of the management practice. | 2018 | E-Supply Chain Integration Adoption: Examination of Buyer-Supplier RelationshipsabstractThe purpose of this study is to empirically examine the adoption of e-supply chain integration by electrical and electronic industry suppliers. This study has integrated both the transaction cost and resource-dependence models in understanding the influence of buyer–seller relationships on e-supply chain integration. Hypotheses were developed based on the proposed model. Data were collected from 122 electrical and electronic suppliers located in Malaysia. The data was examined using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that Asset Specificity, Product Technological Uncertainty, Transaction frequency, Proportion of sales to e-supply chain integration promoter, and number of customers are able to explain suppliers’ decisions to adopt e-supply chain integrations with their buyers. Buyers that would like to improve the adoptions of e-supply chain integration will be able to formulate and plan strategies from the buyer–seller relationships perspectives. | 2017 | Persuasive Electronic Word-of-Mouth Messages in Social MediaabstractDespite the influence of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) messages in decision-making processes, few studies have tested the determinants of persuasive eWOM messages among social media users. Although most of the researches focused on western and eastern cultural convergence or divergence of online communications, little attention has been paid on the validity and applicability of cultural orientations in countries with perceived inherent similar values. This study examines how Chinese and Malaysian users process eWOM messages and decide on continuing their overseas study. The significance of the study is to identify critical factors that influence Chinese and Malaysian users’ attitudes and behavior when processing persuasive eWOM messages. Results revealed that Facebook is the most used social networking site (SNS) for Malaysian users, while QQ Qzone for Chinese counterparts. This study found that argument quality, source credibility, source attractiveness, source perception, and source style exerted varying influences on Chinese and Malaysian users’ attitudes and intentions to continue their study abroad. | 2017 | Examining the Impacts of Electronic Word-of-Mouth Message on Consumers' AttitudeabstractElectronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) has become one of the most influential communication tools. Few studies have identified what makes certain online reviews more influential than others. The objective of this study is to develop a better understanding of the impact of online reviews on consumer attitude and behavioral intention through a conceptual framework built from a series of theories and models. Combined experiment and survey methods contribute to the literature. Research findings revealed that online review antecedents of eWOM like review quality, valence, credibility, and quantity exerted impact on consumers’ attitude toward products. Personal involvement was a predominant predictor of consumers’ attitude. This study identified emotional strength’s mediating role in enhancing online review credibility and inducing a favorable attitude toward products. | 2016 | Predicting Drivers of Mobile Entertainment Adoption: A Two-Stage SEM-Artificial-Neural-Network AnalysisabstractThis study aims to understand users’ motivations to adopt mobile entertainment (m-entertainment). Extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this study examined the effects of trust, perceived financial cost (PFC), and quality of the service on consumers’ decision in adopting the m-entertainment. Survey data were collected from 524 mobile users and analyzed using both structural equation modeling (SEM) and neural network (NN) . The result showed that perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and quality of service (QS) are important predictors of m-entertainment adoption. The study contributes to the existing literature by extending the TAM model as well as examining m-entertainment, an important and emerging business model in mobile commerce. A new analytical approach using both SEM and NN was also employed in this study. Teck-Soon Hew, Lai-Ying Leong, Keng-Boon Ooi, Alain Yee-Loong Chong |

| 2013 | Understanding Mobile Commerce Continuance Intentions: An Empirical Analysis of Chinese ConsumersabstractAdvancements in wireless communications have increased the number of people using mobile devices and have accelerated the growth of mobile commerce (m-commerce). This research aims to examine Chinese consumers' m-commerce continuance usage intentions by extending the Expectations-Confirmation Model (ECM). Additional variables such as perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, trust and perceived cost were added to the traditional ECM. Data was collected from 410 consumers who had prior experience using m-commerce. Structural equation modelling was applied to examine the proposed research model. The results showed that satisfaction, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, perceived cost and trust have significant influence on consumers' m-commerce continuance intentions. This research confirms the need to extend the traditional ECM when studying technology such as m-commerce. The results of this study will be useful for telecommunications and m-commerce companies in formulating strategies to retain their consumers. Alain Yee-Loong Chong |
