With the increasing popularity of online video content like YouTube carries, multichannel network (MCN) businesses have appeared. MCNs are organizations that partner with individual creators. They support production, promotion, copyright management, monetization, and share a portion of the revenue. The activation of the MCN industry is indispensable for the growth of a rich content environment. Despite the diverse stakeholder relationships that characterize the MCN industry (e.g., the MCN, creator, brand, advertising agency, platform, and users) most previous studies focused only on the perspectives of the creators and MCN participants. This study aims to identify each stakeholder's viewpoint. Using an interview-based systems approach, we interviewed 40 stakeholders in the MCN industry. After using a Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) to analyze the key factors and interactions among the diverse stakeholders, we suggest activation propositions. This study offers theoretical and practical implications through comprehensive understanding of six different perspectives within this industry.

The demand for software has increased rapidly in the global industrial environment. Open source software (OSS) has exerted significant impact on the software industry. Large amounts of resources and effort have been devoted to the development of OSS such as Linux. Based on the technology adoption model (TAM), the development of Linux as the most well-known OSS with a graphical user interface designed for ease of use and a wide range of functionalities is expected to result in high levels of Linux adoption by individual users. Linux, however, currently controls about 1% of the operating system market for personal computers. The resistance of users to switch to a new operating system remains one of the major obstacles to widespread adoption of Linux among individual users. Based on the integration of the equity implementation model and the TAM, this study examines the formation of user resistance, as well as the effects of user resistance, on the migration to Linux for personal computers. This study discusses the role and effect of user resistance based on the equity implementation model in comparison with the two main determinants in the TAM. This study contributes to the advancement of theoretical understanding of Linux migration and user resistance. The findings also offer suggestions for software communities and practitioners, of OSS in particular, to promote the use of new software by individual users.

The usage of mobile Internet service has been on the rise as more people become to use mobile devices. WiMAX, a mobile Internet service, was first commercialized in Korea in 2006. However, after first six months, a number of users discontinued the service and switched to other Internet services. Because customer retention is important for the success of any business, this research examines the factors that affect the continued usage of mobile Internet service. A user of a mobile Internet service is both a user of technology and consumer of services. Therefore, to examine the continued usage of mobile Internet service, the authors combine the value adoption model, representing the service consumer perspective, with the information systems continuance model, representing the technology user perspective. The study is conducted in the context of WiMAX. The data was collected from 200 WiMAX users. The model developed in this study is a unique contribution to theory as it discusses the continued adoption of a commercial information system.

This paper uses cognitive fit theory to analyze the problem solving process in spreadsheet analyses. Cognitive fit theory proposes the formation of mental representation as a part of the problem solving process. However, there is little research examining mental representation, which is a key concept in cognitive fit theory. This study examines the formation of mental representation and proposes an alternative mechanism of cognitive fit between different problem representations and their corresponding mental representations when the task is invariant, but the problem representation changes. Mental representation is then empirically assessed based on the application of Hick’s law, which states that the response time of users making a choice varies with the logarithm of the number of possible choices. Therefore, this study contributes to research on cognitive fit theory by proposing an alternative fit and by demonstrating a feasible approach for identifying mental representations. It contributes to spreadsheet research by showing how problem representations affect task performance in the case of spreadsheet error correction.

This study proposes a new methodology that facilitates organizational decision support through knowledge integration across organizational units. For this purpose, this study develops a decision support loop and explains how to organize individual knowledge related to a specific business problem and formulate and test the organized knowledge using cognitive modeling techniques for decision support. This study discusses the proposed approach in the context of an application case involving a beverage company. The application case shows the validity and usefulness of the proposed approach.

Abstract Research patterns could enhance understanding of the Information Systems (IS) field. Citation analysis is the methodology commonly used to determine such research patterns. In this study, the citation methodology is applied to one of the top‐ranked Information Systems conferences—International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). Information is extracted from papers in the proceedings of ICIS 2000 to 2002. A total of 145 base articles and 4,226 citations are used. Research patterns are obtained using total citations, citations per journal or conference, and overlapping citations. We then provide the citation ranking of journals and conferences. We also examine the difference between the citation ranking in this study and the ranking of IS journals and IS conferences in other studies. Based on the comparison, we confirm that IS research is a multidisciplinary research area. We also identify the most cited papers and authors in the IS research area, and the organizations most active in producing papers in the top‐rated IS conference. We discuss the findings and implications of the study.
