2020 Real-Time Periodic Advertisement Recommendation Optimization using Ising Machine
abstract
Online advertising is widely used by commercial companies to attract customers. Tuning advertisement delivery to achieve a high conversion rate (CVR) is crucial for improving advertising effectiveness. Because advertisers require demandside platforms (DSPs) to deliver a certain number of ads within a fixed period, it is challenging to maximize CVR while satisfying ads delivery constraints. Such a combinatorial optimization problem is NP-hard when we have a considerable number of both ads and users. In this paper, we adopt Digital Annealer (DA), a quantum-inspired Ising computer, to solve the combinatorial optimization problem. The experimental evaluation result shows that the proposed method increases accuracy from 0.176 to 0.326 and achieves 20.8 times speed-up compared to baseline.

2019 Interference Management for Millimeter-wave Mesh Backhaul Networks
abstract
Recently, since mobile traffic increases rapidly, 5G network is required to support enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) communications. Self-backhauling mm Wave overlay heterogeneous network is proposed to realize eMBB at low cost. However, intra-channel interferences among mm Wave backhaul links become an issue. This work proposes solutions to this problem through several approaches including proper deployment of mmWave access point, orthogonal channel allocation when necessary, and finally optimal power transmission allocation for alleviating bottleneck of the mesh backhaul networks. Ray-tracing based simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm can cope with bottleneck of the backhaul networks through the effects of the employed interference management schemes.

2019 Benefits of MEC in 5G Cellular Networks from Telecom Operator's View Points
abstract
In recent years, the demand for further expansion of the capacity of wireless communication is increasing due to the drastic growth in the number of connected devices and the emergence of various services and applications utilizing wireless networks. It is necessary to decrease the traffic on the backhaul networks and reduce the end- to-end (E2E) latency. In order to address the problems, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) where services, computing resource, storage, etc., would be deployed at the edge of the network is proposed. However, it is difficult for the operators to determine if and how MEC should be deployed in cellular networks because it is still unclear whether a return on investment of MEC could be obtained. In order to deploy MEC on the cellular network, to the best of authors knowledge, no research has been conducted on whether a business model can be established when additional funds are paid for MEC. In this paper, we propose a more sophisticated business model with an ecosystem for MEC deployment. This paper investigates E2E latency and analyzes the optimal MEC resource deployment in the cellular network, and the numerical results verify our analysis. The analysis results reveal that the profit for telecom operator’s revenue tended to increase with the addition of MECs, and the optimal number of MEC maximizing the profit is a function of MEC resource cost and application requirements.

2019 Performance Evaluation of Prefetching Algorithm for Real-Time Edge Content Delivery in 5G System
abstract
Recently, high-density deployment of mmWave small cell base stations has been focused as a means to cope with the rapidly increasing mobile data traffic. MmWave overlay heterogeneous network (HetNet) is proposed to realize eMBB, however laying cost of backbone utilizing high-capacity optical fibers is very costly to support ultra- broadband accesses. On the other hand, Multi- access Edge Computing (MEC) is proposed to reduce mobile data traffic on backhaul networks. MEC deploys contents requested by User Equipment (UE) nearby in advance based on registered context information e.g. location, destination, and required contents to the orchestrator. Therefore, it is possible to utilize mmWave access under existing backhaul networks by introducing prefetching algorithm. The architecture is enabled by wireless Software Defined Network (SDN) technology. In this paper, Proof-of-Concept (PoC) architecture is proposed, and the effectiveness of mmWave HetNet with MEC utilizing prefetching algorithm is confirmed by measuring the download time of real content.

2014 A 65-nm CMOS burst-mode CDR based on a GVCO with symmetric loops
abstract
A 12.5-Gb/s burst-mode clock and data recovery (BCDR) circuit based on a simple gated voltage-controlled oscillator (GVCO) is presented. A simple symmetric circuit topology makes the area for the GVCO smaller and leads to an easier timing design. The GVCO consists of two loops which operate complementarily. The same type of circuit configurations are adopted for AND and OR in the loops to reduce the difficulties in the timing alignment of the signals from the loops. To confirm the validity of the proposed topology, we fabricated a 12.5-Gb/s-BCDR IC with the 65-nm-MOSFET process. Without a circuit for precise timing adjustment for the signals in the two loops, the IC provides instantaneous phase locking of 1 bit for burst data input of 12.5 G/s. The measured jitter is lower than 2 ps rms. The area and the power consumption for the core GVCO are 0.03 mm2and 60 mW, respectively.

2014 Development of the eLen Regulation Database to Support Legislation of Municipalities
abstract
This paper shows the implementation and operation of our eLen regulation database system provided for all of municipalities in Japan. The system is to support legislation of the municipalities with various functions, for instance, cross-searching among many municipalities and automatic composition of comparing tables, which are based on requests obtained by the direct hearing for many municipalities. So far about 700 out of 1,790 municipalities in total have already used the system. Since many municipalities have similar regulations, almost results of search in the system involve many outputs. Therefore, the system has a function to classify the results after preprocessing with using a supercomputer.

2011 Generating avatar's facial expressions from emotional states in daily conversation
abstract
A framework for generating facial expressions from emotional states in daily conversation is described. The frame work allows avatars to express the speaker's state not just prototypical emotions. In this paper, the naturalness of generated facial expressions that are presented together with dialogue speech is examined. An experiment to examine the naturalness of facial expressions presented as still images shows that the two avatars' facial expressions are almost as natural as manually-made facial expressions. In an experiment to determine the natural display speed of dynamic facial expressions, significant interactions between display speed and emotion group were found for most emotion dimensions.

2010 Semantic Analysis of Paragraphs Consisting of Multiple Sentences - Towards Development of a Logical Formulation System
abstract
A logical formulation system functions to verify consistency of legal documents, and to eliminate inconsistent parts from a set of articles. We are studying legal document analysis methods, and in this paper we focus on how to deal with multiple sentences which constitute a paragraph of an article in a law. They need to be processed together because they are semantically dependent on each other. We analyzed National Pension Law of Japan and found that relations between sentences and their logical structures can be classified into four main types. We implemented a logical formulation system, which showed reasonable accuracy in dealing properly with paragraphs consisting of multiple sentences.

2004 Inter-Layer Coordination for Parallel TCP Streams on Long Fat Pipe Networks
abstract
As the network speed grows, inter-layer coordination becomes more important. This paper shows 3 inter-layer coordination methods; (1) "Comet-TCP"; cooperation of data-link layer and transport layer using hardware, (2) "Transmission Rate Controlled TCP (TRC-TCP)"; cooperation of data-link layer and transport layer using software, and (3) "Dulling Edges of Cooperative Parallel streams (DECP)"; cooperation of transport layer and application layer. We show the experimental results of file transfer at Bandwidth Challenge in SC2003; one and a half round trip from Japan to U.S., 15,000 miles, which has 350 ms RTT and 8.2 Gbps bandwidth. Comet-TCP hardware solution attained max 7.56 Gbps using a pair of 16 IA servers, which is 92% of available bandwidth and DECP software attained max 7.01 Gbps using a pair of 32 IA servers.

2004 A new class of zero-correlation zone sequences
abstract
In this correspondence, two new methods for constructing sets of zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequences are proposed. These methods are based on perfect sequences and unitary matrices. Compared with previous methods, the proposed methods can generate sets of nonbinary ZCZ sequences having a longer zero-correlation zone. The sequences obtained by these methods are suitable for approximately synchronized code-division multiple-access (AS-CDMA) systems.

2000 General Construction of Periodic Complete Complementary Codes Composed of Expanded Modulatable Orthogonal Sequences
abstract
In this paper, we propose a construction of periodic complete complementary codes composed of the expanded modulatable orthogonal sequences. Because the number of the expanded modulatable orthogonal sequences of period N/sup 2/ is infinite, the number of the periodic complete complementary codes of period N/sup 2/ is also infinite. It is already proved that the proposed sequences are periodic complete complementary codes. In the meantime Suehiro (1998) has proposed a signal design method for approximately synchronized CDMA systems without co-channel interference. In this signal design method, we can assign the proposed periodic complete complementary codes as code words to each user so that the information transmission rate is increased.

1981 An LPC vocoder for efficient implementation
abstract
Linear prediction has been widely used in speech coding. However, a large amount of calculation is necessary for parameter extraction by the autocorrelation method, so it is not suited for hardware implementation. This paper proposes a new analysis method, involving iterative method in the lattice circuit for successive K parameter approximations. In the iterative method, the improved hybrid algorithm was found best, from the viewpoint of high speed convergence for speech. For pitch extraction, partly divided average magnitude difference function (AMDF) method was used. Using these two methods, a vocoder was developed which requires only a small amount of calculation and is suited for hardware implementation (e.g. LSI). Good speech quality was obtained.
