2004 Modeling of orthogonality factor using ray-tracing predictions
abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the results obtained simulating the orthogonality factor (OF) in an urban microcellular channel. This paper is focused on two main issues: the reliability of ray-tracing (RT) simulations when predicting the OF and the modeling of the OF over a global and a local area. This paper presents a novel approach to the assessment of the accuracy and robustness of RT channel estimates, and specifically of the OF. It shows that the expected accuracy in estimating the OF is comparable to the accuracy in estimating the narrow-band channel losses and that the estimation is robust: thus it is suggested that simulations can be used to extract empirical models of the OF. This paper presents two models derived from a large number of simulations: one is for the coverage area and the other is for local fluctuations. These models can effectively be used in simulations of the static or the dynamic performance of third-generation mobile systems.

1994 Impact of non-uniform spatial traffic distribution on cellular CDMA performance
abstract
The paper deals with the evaluation of the impact of non-uniform user distribution on cellular CDMA performance. A peak-shaped traffic model, typical of urban environments, is included in a simulation program which computes the carrier to interference ratio for the up-link of CDMA system. First, considering the usual hexagonal lay-out, the reduction of the traffic volume with respect to the uniform traffic distribution case is evaluated; then, some possible countermeasures are presented, basing on the optimization of the received power levels required by each base station.

1992 A Spectrum- and Power-Efficient EHF Mobile Satellite System to be Integrated with Terrestrial Cellular Systems
abstract
An EHF satellite system for land-mobile applications to be integrated with a terrestrial cellular system is described. An approach to evaluate the carrier-to-cochannel interference occurring in multispot satellite coverage adopting frequency reuse is introduced, and results from the analysis are shown. Criteria for spectrum efficiency evaluation are also outlined along with traffic and link budget estimates. Possible options for payload implementation and mobile terminal design are presented.>
