2022 Multi-UAV Cooperative Short-Range Combat via Attention-Based Reinforcement Learning using Individual Reward Shaping
abstract
In this paper, we propose a novel distributed method based on attention-based deep reinforcement learning using individual reward shaping, for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) cooperative short-range combat mission. Specifically, a two-level attention distributed policy, composed of observation-level and communication-level attention networks, is designed to enable each UAV to selectively focus on important environmental features and messages, for enhancing the effectiveness of the cooperative policy. Moreover, due to the high complexity and stochasticity of the UAV combat mission, the learning of UAVs is tricky and low efficient. To embed knowledge to accelerate the policy learning, a potential-based individual reward function is constructed by implicitly translating the individual reward into the specific form of dynamic action potentials. In addition, an actor-critic training algorithm based on the centralized training and decentralized execution framework is adopted to train the policy network of UAV maneuver decision. We build a three-dimensional UAV simulation and training platform based on Unity for multi-UAV short-range combat missions. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and the superiority of the attention policy and individual reward shaping.

2022 Decoupled Representation Learning for Character Glyph Synthesis
abstract
Character glyph synthesis is still an open challenging problem, which involves two related aspects,i.e., font style transfer and content consistency. In this paper, we propose a novel model named FontGAN, which integrates the character structure stylization, de-stylization and texture transfer into a unified framework. Specifically, we decouple character images into style representation and content representation, which offers fine-grained control of these two types of variables, thus improving the quality of the generated results. To effectively capture the style information, a style consistency module (SCM) is introduced. Technically, SCM exploits category-guided Kullback-Leibler divergence to explicitly model the style representation into different prior distributions. In this way, our model is capable of implementing transformations between multiple domains in one framework. In addition, we propose content prior module (CPM) to provide content prior for the model to guide the content encoding process and alleviates the problem of stroke deficiency during structure de-stylization. Benefiting from the idea of decoupling and regrouping, our FontGAN suffices to achieve many-to-many translation tasks for glyph structure. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed FontGAN achieves the state-of-the-art performance in character glyph synthesis.

2017 Multi-Task Linear Dependency Modeling for drug-related webpages classification
abstract
In this paper, Multi-Task Linear Dependency Modeling is proposed to distinguish drug-related webpages that contain lots of images and text. Linear Dependency Modeling exploits semantic relations between images features and text features, and Multi-Task Learning takes advantage of metadata of webpages. Meaningful information of webpages can be made use of fully to improve classification accuracy. Experimental results show that Multi-Task Linear Dependency Modeling outperforms existing decision level and feature level combination methods and achieves the best performance.

2014 Quality-Based Learning for Web Data Classification
abstract
The types of web data vary in terms of information quantity and quality. For example, some pages contain numerous texts, whereas some others contain few texts; some web videos are in high resolution, whereas some other web videos are in low resolution. As a consequence, the quality of extracted features from different web data may also vary greatly. Existing learning algorithms on web data classification usually ignore the variations of information quality or quantity. In this paper, the information quantity and quality of web data are described by quality-related factors such as text length and image quantity, and a new learning method is proposed to train classifiers based on quality-related factors. The method divides training data into subsets according to the clustering results of quality-related factors and then trains classifiers by using a multi-task learning strategy for each subset. Experimental results indicate that the quality-related factors are useful in web data classification, and the proposed method outperforms conventional algorithms that do not consider information quantity and quality.

2014 Bin Ratio-Based Histogram Distances and Their Application to Image Classification
abstract
Large variations in image background may cause partial matching and normalization problems for histogram-based representations, i.e., the histograms of the same category may have bins which are significantly different, and normalization may produce large changes in the differences between corresponding bins. In this paper, we deal with this problem by using the ratios between bin values of histograms, rather than bin values' differences which are used in the traditional histogram distances. We propose a bin ratio-based histogram distance (BRD), which is an intra-cross-bin distance, in contrast with previous bin-to-bin distances and cross-bin distances. The BRD is robust to partial matching and histogram normalization, and captures correlations between bins with only a linear computational complexity. We combine the BRD with the ℓ1 histogram distance and the χ(2) histogram distance to generate the ℓ1 BRD and the χ(2) BRD, respectively. These combinations exploit and benefit from the robustness of the BRD under partial matching and the robustness of the ℓ1 and χ(2) distances to small noise. We propose a method for assessing the robustness of histogram distances to partial matching. The BRDs and logistic regression-based histogram fusion are applied to image classification. The experimental results on synthetic data sets show the robustness of the BRDs to partial matching, and the experiments on seven benchmark data sets demonstrate promising results of the BRDs for image classification.

2014 Image Classification Using Multiscale Information Fusion Based on Saliency Driven Nonlinear Diffusion Filtering
abstract
In this paper, we propose saliency driven image multiscale nonlinear diffusion filtering. The resulting scale space in general preserves or even enhances semantically important structures such as edges, lines, or flow-like structures in the foreground, and inhibits and smoothes clutter in the background. The image is classified using multiscale information fusion based on the original image, the image at the final scale at which the diffusion process converges, and the image at a midscale. Our algorithm emphasizes the foreground features, which are important for image classification. The background image regions, whether considered as contexts of the foreground or noise to the foreground, can be globally handled by fusing information from different scales. Experimental tests of the effectiveness of the multiscale space for the image classification are conducted on the following publicly available datasets: 1) the PASCAL 2005 dataset; 2) the Oxford 102 flowers dataset; and 3) the Oxford 17 flowers dataset, with high classification rates.
