2025 Improving Visual Understanding of Multimodal Large Models for Biomedical Images with Multi-Level Information Extraction
abstract
Biomedical multimodal large language models (MLLMs) outperform general-domain models on complex biomedical images, yet they still face significant modality disparities. Current methods mainly fine-tune general MLLMs with specialized data, lacking efficient architectural innovation. Tailored frameworks often underperform across multiple modalities, reducing visual comprehension and relying on unsustainable data scaling. To address this, we propose Multi-level Multi-branch Collaborative LLaVA (MMC-LLaVA), a new framework that enhances multi-modal visual information capture in biomedical images. Based on LLaVA-Med, MMC-LLaVA adds two visual branches: one for global structure and another for text-guided fine-grained details, complemented by a gated dynamic fusion module. Experiments on Med-VQA show that MMC-LLaVA outperforms previous state-of-the-art models across multiple metrics, with notable gains in detailed description scores.

2025 Learning-Guided Rolling Horizon Optimization for Long-Horizon Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling
abstract
Long-horizon combinatorial optimization problems (COPs), such as the Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling Problem (FJSP), often involve complex, interdependent decisions over extended time frames, posing significant challenges for existing solvers. While Rolling Horizon Optimization (RHO) addresses this by decomposing problems into overlapping shorter-horizon subproblems, such overlap often involves redundant computations. In this paper, we present L-RHO, the first learning-guided RHO framework for COPs. L-RHO employs a neural network to intelligently fix variables that in hindsight did not need to be re-optimized, resulting in smaller and thus easier-to-solve subproblems. For FJSP, this means identifying operations with unchanged machine assignments between consecutive subproblems. Applied to FJSP, L-RHO accelerates RHO by up to 54\% while significantly improving solution quality, outperforming other heuristic and learning-based baselines. We also provide in-depth discussions and verify the desirable adaptability and generalization of L-RHO across numerous FJSP variates, distributions, online scenarios and benchmark instances. Moreover, we provide a theoretical analysis to elucidate the conditions under which learning is beneficial.

2023 SIDGAN: High-Resolution Dubbed Video Generation via Shift-Invariant Learning
abstract
Dubbed video generation aims to accurately synchronize mouth movements of a given facial video with driving audio while preserving identity and scene-specific visual dynamics, such as head pose and lighting. Despite the accurate lip generation of previous approaches that adopts a pre-trained audio-video synchronization metric as an objective function, called Sync-Loss, extending it to high-resolution videos was challenging due to shift biases in the loss landscape that inhibit tandem optimization of Sync-Loss and visual quality, leading to a loss of detail. To address this issue, we introduce shift-invariant learning, which generates photo-realistic high-resolution videos with accurate Lip-Sync. Further, we employ a pyramid network with coarse-to-fine image generation to improve stability and lip syncronization. Our model outperforms state-of-the-art methods on multiple benchmark datasets, including AVSpeech, HDTF, and LRW, in terms of photo-realism, identity preservation, and Lip-Sync accuracy.

2023 Learning to Configure Separators in Branch-and-Cut
abstract
Cutting planes are crucial in solving mixed integer linear programs (MILP) as they facilitate bound improvements on the optimal solution. Modern MILP solvers rely on a variety of separators to generate a diverse set of cutting planes by invoking the separators frequently during the solving process. This work identifies that MILP solvers can be drastically accelerated by appropriately selecting separators to activate. As the combinatorial separator selection space imposes challenges for machine learning, we *learn to separate* by proposing a novel data-driven strategy to restrict the selection space and a learning-guided algorithm on the restricted space. Our method predicts instance-aware separator configurations which can dynamically adapt during the solve, effectively accelerating the open source MILP solver SCIP by improving the relative solve time up to 72% and 37% on synthetic and real-world MILP benchmarks. Our work complements recent work on learning to select cutting planes and highlights the importance of separator management.
