1994 Consideration on common channel signaling evolution for global intelligent networking
abstract
With the evolution of digital networks and intelligent network (IN) capabilities, the role of common channel signaling has become more and more important. In respect to IN, common channel signaling would play a significant role not only inside one network but also over multiple networks. International credit card validation and internetworking for digital mobile services represented by GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) are examples which utilize internetwork signaling capabilities in the framework of the initial-phase IN. Enhanced service providers (ESPs) may access the public network through the common channel signaling interface to make use of the IN capabilities, as is being discussed in terms of ONA (open network architecture) or ONP (open network provision). This paper first identifies various scenarios where internetwork signaling interactions would take place in the framework of IN in the forthcoming era. It then identifies various requirements to cope with these scenarios. It finally discusses the directions for evolution of common channel signaling toward global intelligent networking.>

1993 Quantitative Analysis of Errors in Telecommunications Software
abstract
The results from applying the NHPP (non-homogeneous Poisson process) reliability growth model, for estimation of residual errors, to the online processing software which was developed for provision of new telecommunications services are presented. It is disclosed that the NHPP model can very well be applied to the real online processing telecommunications software not only in the testing phase but also in the operation phase. How the modeling method can be used in the life-cycle of software development, including design, development, and maintenance phases, is also discussed.>

1990 Error control criteria in the message transfer part of CCITT Signaling System No.7
abstract
Three error correction methods are specified for CCITT Signaling System No.7: the preventive cyclic retransmission (PCR) method for relatively long signaling links, the basic method for relatively short links, and the basic method with repetition of signal units as an option. The qualitative characteristics of these methods are compared. This comparison shows that the PCR method is simpler to achieve but that it is harder to check the signaling flow on a signaling link than with the basic method, and that the PCR method generally gives narrower distribution of the queuing delays for signal units than the basic method. The application of these methods for minimizing the mean queuing delay under various transmission delay and error conditions is analyzed, taking into consideration that various types of links including satellite and cable will be used.>
