| 2015 | Active S-quiz: An intelligent educational system for basic knowledge learning by question-posingabstracte-Learning is strongly expected to be used for self-learning. Focusing on e-Learning systems designed to realize student's self-learning, it is not always said that those systems can achieve expected learning. Our research aim is to enhance learning effects with navigating students to ideal learning status by adding learning assistance functions by system initiative into existing e-Learning systems. We have developed Self Study Material Contribution and Sharing System "S-Quiz" that realizes student's self-learning. S-Quiz can provide a learning environment wherein students can make educational materials and the share them for their self-learning. It has revealed that preparing the learning environment for question poising and sharing gives little impacts to active question posing by students, from the results of several trail experiment and use in real class of S-Quiz. We are currently developing an intelligent educational system called "Active S-Quiz" which has learning assistance functions by using both S-Quiz and partial system based on system initiative. | 2015 | Design and evaluation of database and API supporting Shogi learners on the InternetabstractWe have developed a Shogi (Japanese Chess) support system on the Internet, called SAKURA. SAKURA provides an environment for Shogi with game and discussion support functions. It also has databases and interfaces with artificial intelligence to play shogi. The databases of SAKURA consist of a game record database and a position database. These databases have links to each other. As a result, information associated with game positions, such as comments, evaluations, and candidate moves can be integrated on a single system. We have conducted experiments to evaluate the performance of API for the databases. This paper describes SAKURA's database design and results of the experiment for performance evaluation. The performance is efficient enough to be extensively used by external artificial intelligence. Ryo Miura, Toshiki Kinuhata, Shinji Ohara, Hiroyuki Tarumi, Toshihiro Hayashi, Junko Ichino |

| 2015 | A study of load-balancing strategy based on students' action on university cooperative e-LearningabstractThe University Consortium for e-Learning, Shikoku Center” is a parent organization of Cooperative University e-Learning Project for the Shikoku Area. The organization consists of five national universities in Shikoku area of Japan. Kagawa University takes the initiative of this project. The aim of this organization is to improve the educational quality in the five universities using e-Learning technology. To achieve the aim, in this project, we create the unique educational system that can provide courses with distinguished features opened in the respective universities to students. That is why it is anticipated that many students of the aforementioned five universities will take a lot of courses. It might cause heavy access to e-Learning servers. Therefore, the balancing of their loads is needed because e-Learning service must be suitable and available even in tough condition such as heavy and burst access. In this paper, we propose load-balancing strategy for our e-Learning management system. We have monitored and analyzed network environment of our university to design strategy of load balancing for future demand of e-Learning services. | 2005 | Operation-Style Answering in Multimedia Testing System DrilLs-M for Kanji Letter Shape LearningabstractThere are some practical Web-based testing systems and drill type CAI with multimedia questioning. Many of these systems do not adapt adequate answering methods for multimedia materials. In this research, we propose a uniform model of multimedia questioning and its description form. And we develop DrilLs-M: multimedia testing system with operation style answering. It enables some natural user actions as answering, such as, designation of areas and drawing lines with a mouse and pen tablet. It supports experiential learning effectively. We introduce suitable answering methods and various practical examples for some learning items of Kanji letter shape. | 2005 | Japanese Learning System for Chinese Native Speakers - Development of Database for Learning Kanji Which Have Difference between Chinese and JapaneseabstractAlthough native speakers of Chinese have basic knowledge of Kanji (Chinese characters), learning Kanji is hard task to them. The difficulties of Kanji learning for Chinese speakers are different from those for non-Chinese character area learners. They are, for example, influenced by Chinese to their uses of Japanese, plural readings of each Kanji, and Kanji's different form (Ijitai in Japanese). Therefore, it is important for Chinese speakers to learn Kanji focusing on them. In this research, we develop a Kanji database that stores reading, meaning, letter shape and education level of Kanji and their compounds in order to implement Kanji and Japanese language learning systems for Chinese speakers. | 2005 | Video Tablet Based on Stereo Camera - Human-Friendly Handwritten Capturing System for Educational UseabstractWe are developing a capturing system to get handwritten sequential coordinates of a pen movement by using two video cameras which observe a writing pen. We call this system "video tablet". At first, sequential images are obtained through the video cameras. Next, our system estimates coordinates of handwritten positions by using a color marker in each image. For extracting the color marker, we use uniform color space. Through these operations, our video tablet system can get handwritten sequential coordinates by using stereo camera method. Makoto Moriya, Toshihiro Hayashi, Hiroyuki Tominaga, Toshinori Yamasaki |

| 2002 | Remote Lecture Based on Instruction with Blackboard Using High-Quality Media SystemsabstractVarious kinds of high-quality media systems have been developed. It is expected that these systems can be used for remote lectures. We are adopting these systems including a high-speed network to construct a remote lecture based on "Instruction with Blackboard", which provides an old-fashioned but very common style of lecture. This instruction style has been often avoided in remote lectures so far because it requires high-quality data transmission. However it is no doubt that this style of instruction is still a very popular teaching method. Therefore, it is educationally meaningful that this teaching method is realized on remote lectures. This paper describes a construction method of the remote lecture based on Instruction with Blackboard and the experiment on the remote lecture using high-quality media systems.
