| 2025 | Knowledge-Guided Prompt Learning for Deepfake Facial Image DetectionabstractRecent generative models demonstrate impressive performance on synthesizing photographic images, which makes humans hardly to distinguish them from pristine ones, especially on realistic-looking synthetic facial images. Previous works mostly focus on mining discriminative artifacts from vast amount of visual data. However, they usually lack the exploration of prior knowledge and rarely pay attention to the domain shift between training categories (e.g., natural and indoor objects) and testing ones (e.g., fine-grained human facial images), resulting in unsatisfactory detection performance. To address these issues, we propose a novel knowledge-guided prompt learning method for deepfake facial image detection. Specifically, we retrieve forgery-related prompts from large language models as expert knowledge to guide the optimization of learnable prompts. Besides, we elaborate test-time prompt tuning to alleviate the domain shift, achieving significant performance improvement and boosting the application in real-world scenarios. Extensive experiments on DeepFakeFaceForensics dataset show that our proposed approach notably outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Hao Wang 0062, Cheng Deng 0002, Zhidong Zhao |

| 2025 | Zero-Shot Interpretable Image Steganalysis for Invertible Image HidingabstractImage steganalysis, which aims at detecting secret information concealed within images, has become a critical coun termeasure for assessing the security of steganography methods, especially the emerging invertible image hiding approaches. However, prior studies merely classify input images into two categories (i.e., stego or cover) and typically conduct steganalysis under the constraint that training and testing data must follow similar distribution, thereby hindering their application in real-world scenarios. To overcome these shortcomings, we propose a novel interpretable image steganalysis framework tailored for invertible image hiding schemes under a challenging zero-shot setting. Specifically, we integrate image hiding, revealing, and steganalysis into a unified framework, endowing the steganalysis component with the capability to recover the secret information embedded in stego images. Additionally, we elaborate a simple yet effective residual augmentation strategy for generating stego images to further enhance the generalizability of the steganalyzer in cross dataset and cross-architecture scenarios. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our proposed approach significantly outperforms the existing steganalysis techniques for invertible image hiding schemes. | 2024 | Simple yet Effective ECG Identity Authentication with Low EER & without RetrainingabstractRecently, electrocardiogram (ECG) signals have garnered significant attention in the field of identity authentication due to its biological uniqueness. For identity authentication, the ECG signals that collected by wearing smart devices need to be determined whether the signal belongs to an enrolled one. Constrained by the computational efficiency of smart devices in practical scenarios, it is essential to reduce the complexity of the method to lower the computational load. To maintain the accuracy of identity authentication, most research efforts rely on both R-wave extraction and segmentation for subsequent authentication. Moreover, many methods constantly require the model to be retrained during the user enrollment stage, leading to performance degradation and waste of training resources. Hence, we propose a simple yet effective ECG identity authentication method that applies blind segmentation and is free from retraining, which greatly simplifies the authentication process. To mitigate the Equal Error Rate (EER) during the verification phase, a combination of AAM-softmax and triplet losses is employed, along with the incorporation of the hard negative mining within batch samples. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms competitors by a large margin, e.g., achieving 0.40% EER on the large-scale Autonomic dataset. | 2022 | Transferable Coupled Network for Zero-Shot Sketch-Based Image RetrievalabstractZero-Shot Sketch-Based Image Retrieval (ZS-SBIR) aims at searching corresponding natural images with the given free-hand sketches, under the more realistic and challenging scenario of Zero-Shot Learning (ZSL). Prior works concentrate much on aligning the sketch and image feature representations while ignoring the explicit learning of heterogeneous feature extractors to make themselves capable of aligning multi-modal features, with the expense of deteriorating the transferability from seen categories to unseen ones. To address this issue, we propose a novel Transferable Coupled Network (TCN) to effectively improve network transferability, with the constraint of soft weight-sharing among heterogeneous convolutional layers to capture similar geometric patterns, e.g., contours of sketches and images. Based on this, we further introduce and validate a general criterion to deal with multi-modal zero-shot learning, i.e., utilizing coupled modules for mining modality-common knowledge while independent modules for learning modality-specific information. Moreover, we elaborate a simple but effective semantic metric to integrate local metric learning and global semantic constraint into a unified formula to significantly boost the performance. Extensive experiments on three popular large-scale datasets show that our proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods to a remarkable extent: by more than 12% on Sketchy, 2% on TU-Berlin and 6% on QuickDraw datasets in terms of retrieval accuracy. | 2022 | Object-Agnostic Transformers for Video Referring SegmentationabstractVideo referring segmentation focuses on segmenting out the object in a video based on the corresponding textual description. Previous works have primarily tackled this task by devising two crucial parts, an intra-modal module for context modeling and an inter-modal module for heterogeneous alignment. However, there are two essential drawbacks of this approach: (1) it lacks joint learning of context modeling and heterogeneous alignment, leading to insufficient interactions among input elements; (2) both modules require task-specific expert knowledge to design, which severely limits the flexibility and generality of prior methods. To address these problems, we here propose a novel Object-Agnostic Transformer-based Network, called OATNet, that simultaneously conducts intra-modal and inter-modal learning for video referring segmentation, without the aid of object detection or category-specific pixel labeling. More specifically, we first directly feed the sequence of textual tokens and visual tokens (pixels rather than detected object bounding boxes) into a multi-modal encoder, where context and alignment are simultaneously and effectively explored. We then design a novel cascade segmentation network to decouple our task into coarse-grained segmentation and fine-grained refinement. Moreover, considering the difficulty of samples, a more balanced metric is provided to better diagnose the performance of the proposed method. Extensive experiments on two popular datasets, A2D Sentences and J-HMDB Sentences, demonstrate that our proposed approach noticeably outperforms state-of-the-art methods. | 2021 | Domain-Smoothing Network for Zero-Shot Sketch-Based Image RetrievalabstractZero-Shot Sketch-Based Image Retrieval (ZS-SBIR) is a novel cross-modal retrieval task, where abstract sketches are used as queries to retrieve natural images under zero-shot scenario. Most existing methods regard ZS-SBIR as a traditional classification problem and employ a cross-entropy or triplet-based loss to achieve retrieval, which neglect the problems of the domain gap between sketches and natural images and the large intra-class diversity in sketches. Toward this end, we propose a novel Domain-Smoothing Network (DSN) for ZS-SBIR. Specifically, a cross-modal contrastive method is proposed to learn generalized representations to smooth the domain gap by mining relations with additional augmented samples. Furthermore, a category-specific memory bank with sketch features is explored to reduce intra-class diversity in the sketch domain. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach notably outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in both Sketchy and TU-Berlin datasets. Hao Wang 0062, Jiexi Yan, Aming Wu, Cheng Deng 0002 |

| 2020 | Context Modulated Dynamic Networks for Actor and Action Video Segmentation with Language QueriesabstractActor and action video segmentation with language queries aims to segment out the expression referred objects in the video. This process requires comprehensive language reasoning and fine-grained video understanding. Previous methods mainly leverage dynamic convolutional networks to match visual and semantic representations. However, the dynamic convolution neglects spatial context when processing each region in the frame and is thus challenging to segment similar objects in the complex scenarios. To address such limitation, we construct a context modulated dynamic convolutional network. Specifically, we propose a context modulated dynamic convolutional operation in the proposed framework. The kernels for the specific region are generated from both language sentences and surrounding context features. Moreover, we devise a temporal encoder to incorporate motions into the visual features to further match the query descriptions. Extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets, Actor-Action Dataset Sentences (A2D Sentences) and J-HMDB Sentences, demonstrate that our proposed approach notably outperforms state-of-the-art methods. | 2020 | Progressive Domain-Independent Feature Decomposition Network for Zero-Shot Sketch-Based Image RetrievalabstractZero-Shot Sketch-Based Image Retrieval (ZS-SBIR) is a specific cross-modal retrieval task for searching natural images given free-hand sketches under the zero-shot scenario. Most existing methods solve this problem by simultaneously projecting visual features and semantic supervision into a low-dimensional common space for efficient retrieval. However, such low-dimensional projection destroys the completeness of semantic knowledge in original semantic space, so that it is unable to transfer useful knowledge well when learning semantic features from different modalities. Moreover, the domain information and semantic information are entangled in visual features, which is not conducive for cross-modal matching since it will hinder the reduction of domain gap between sketch and image. In this paper, we propose a Progressive Domain-independent Feature Decomposition (PDFD) network for ZS-SBIR. Specifically, with the supervision of original semantic knowledge, PDFD decomposes visual features into domain features and semantic ones, and then the semantic features are projected into common space as retrieval features for ZS-SBIR. The progressive projection strategy maintains strong semantic supervision. Besides, to guarantee the retrieval features to capture clean and complete semantic information, the cross-reconstruction loss is introduced to encourage that any combinations of retrieval features and domain features can reconstruct the visual features. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our PDFD over state-of-the-art competitors. Xinxun Xu, Muli Yang, Yanhua Yang, Hao Wang 0062 |

| 2020 | Progressive Cross-Modal Semantic Network for Zero-Shot Sketch-Based Image RetrievalabstractZero-shot sketch-based image retrieval (ZS-SBIR) is a specific cross-modal retrieval task that involves searching natural images through the use of free-hand sketches under the zero-shot scenario. Most previous methods project the sketch and image features into a low-dimensional common space for efficient retrieval, and meantime align the projected features to their semantic features (e.g., category-level word vectors) in order to transfer knowledge from seen to unseen classes. However, the projection and alignment are always coupled; as a result, there is a lack of alignment that consequently leads to unsatisfactory zero-shot retrieval performance. To address this issue, we propose a novel progressive cross-modal semantic network. More specifically, it first explicitly aligns the sketch and image features to semantic features, then projects the aligned features to a common space for subsequent retrieval. We further employ cross-reconstruction loss to encourage the aligned features to capture complete knowledge about the two modalities, along with multi-modal Euclidean loss that guarantees similarity between the retrieval features from a sketch-image pair. Extensive experiments conducted on two popular large-scale datasets demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art competitors to a remarkable extent: by more than 3% on the Sketchy dataset and about 6% on the TU-Berlin dataset in terms of retrieval accuracy. | 2019 | Semantic Adversarial Network with Multi-Scale Pyramid Attention for Video ClassificationabstractTwo-stream architecture have shown strong performance in video classification task. The key idea is to learn spatiotemporal features by fusing convolutional networks spatially and temporally. However, there are some problems within such architecture. First, it relies on optical flow to model temporal information, which are often expensive to compute and store. Second, it has limited ability to capture details and local context information for video data. Third, it lacks explicit semantic guidance that greatly decrease the classification performance. In this paper, we proposed a new two-stream based deep framework for video classification to discover spatial and temporal information only from RGB frames, moreover, the multi-scale pyramid attention (MPA) layer and the semantic adversarial learning (SAL) module is introduced and integrated in our framework. The MPA enables the network capturing global and local feature to generate a comprehensive representation for video, and the SAL can make this representation gradually approximate to the real video semantics in an adversarial manner. Experimental results on two public benchmarks demonstrate our proposed methods achieves state-of-the-art results on standard video datasets. | 2019 | Asymmetric Cross-Guided Attention Network for Actor and Action Video Segmentation From Natural Language QueryabstractActor and action video segmentation from natural language query aims to selectively segment the actor and its action in a video based on an input textual description. Previous works mostly focus on learning simple correlation between two heterogeneous features of vision and language via dynamic convolution or fully convolutional classification. However, they ignore the linguistic variation of natural language query and have difficulty in modeling global visual context, which leads to unsatisfactory segmentation performance. To address these issues, we propose an asymmetric cross-guided attention network for actor and action video segmentation from natural language query. Specifically, we frame an asymmetric cross-guided attention network, which consists of vision guided language attention to reduce the linguistic variation of input query and language guided vision attention to incorporate query-focused global visual context simultaneously. Moreover, we adopt multi-resolution fusion scheme and weighted loss for foreground and background pixels to obtain further performance improvement. | 2019 | Adversarial Fine-Grained Composition Learning for Unseen Attribute-Object RecognitionabstractRecognizing unseen attribute-object pairs never appearing in the training data is a challenging task, since an object often refers to a specific entity while an attribute is an abstract semantic description. Besides, attributes are highly correlated to objects, i.e., an attribute tends to describe different visual features of various objects. Existing methods mainly employ two classifiers to recognize attribute and object separately, or simply simulate the composition of attribute and object, which ignore the inherent discrepancy and correlation between them. In this paper, we propose a novel adversarial fine-grained composition learning model for unseen attribute-object pair recognition. Considering their inherent discrepancy, we leverage multi-scale feature integration to capture discriminative fine-grained features from a given image. Besides, we devise a quintuplet loss to depict more accurate correlations between attributes and objects. Adversarial learning is employed to model the discrepancy and correlations among attributes and objects. Extensive experiments on two challenging benchmarks indicate that our method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art competitors by a large margin.
