2025 RealPortrait: Realistic Portrait Animation with Diffusion Transformers
abstract
We introduce RealPortrait, a framework based on Diffusion Transformers (DiT), designed to generate highly expressive and visually appealing portrait animations. Given a static portrait image, our method can transfer complex facial expressions and head pose movements extracted from a driving video onto the portrait, transforming it into a lifelike video. Specifically, we exploit the robust spatial-temporal modeling capabilities of DiT, enabling the generation of portrait videos that maintain high-fidelity visual details and ensure temporal coherence. In contrast to conventional image-to-video generation frameworks that necessitate a separate reference network, we incorporate an efficient reference attention within the DiT backbone, thereby obviating the computational overhead and achieving superior reference appearance preservation. Concurrently, we integrate a parallel ControlNet to precisely regulate intricate facial expressions and head poses. Diverging from prior methods that utilize explicit sparse motion representations, such as facial landmarks or 3DMM coefficients, we adopt a dense implicit motion representation as the control guidance. This implicit motion representation excels in capturing nuanced emotional facial expressions and subtle non-rigid dynamics of the lips. To further enhance the generalization capability of the model, we augment the training dataset by incorporating a substantial volume of facial image data through random crop augmentation. This strategy ensures the model's robustness across a wide variety of facial appearances and expressions. Empirical evaluations demonstrate that RealPortrait excels in generating portrait animations with highly-realistic quality and exceptional temporal coherence in appearance retention.

2024 ExpCLIP: Bridging Text and Facial Expressions via Semantic Alignment
abstract
The objective of stylized speech-driven facial animation is to create animations that encapsulate specific emotional expressions. Existing methods often depend on pre-established emotional labels or facial expression templates, which may limit the necessary flexibility for accurately conveying user intent. In this research, we introduce a technique that enables the control of arbitrary styles by leveraging natural language as emotion prompts. This technique presents benefits in terms of both flexibility and user-friendliness. To realize this objective, we initially construct a Text-Expression Alignment Dataset (TEAD), wherein each facial expression is paired with several prompt-like descriptions. We propose an innovative automatic annotation method, supported by CahtGPT, to expedite the dataset construction, thereby eliminating the substantial expense of manual annotation. Following this, we utilize TEAD to train a CLIP-based model, termed ExpCLIP, which encodes text and facial expressions into semantically aligned style embeddings. The embeddings are subsequently integrated into the facial animation generator to yield expressive and controllable facial animations. Given the limited diversity of facial emotions in existing speech-driven facial animation training data, we further introduce an effective Expression Prompt Augmentation (EPA) mechanism to enable the animation generator to support unprecedented richness in style control. Comprehensive experiments illustrate that our method accomplishes expressive facial animation generation and offers enhanced flexibility in effectively conveying the desired style.

2024 Dynamic Memory Derived Graph learning for Spatio-Temporal Metro Flow Prediction
abstract
Accurate prediction of urban metro ridership flows is crucial for effective transportation operation management and optimized individual travel planning. Addressing the complex spatio-temporal dynamics data and topology information within the metro system, we introduce a novel spatio-temporal graph structure learning model: Memory Derive Graph Convolutional Recursive Network (MDGCRN). Specifically, We implement this method to Graph Convolutional Recursive Network(GCRN) to predict the urban metro station flow. First, we propose a Spatio-Temporal Memory Node Library module to capture similarity and correlation at different stations. We then incorporate a Graph Memory Learner, guided by the Node Library, into the GCRN’s encoder-decoder architecture. This allows the model to embrace the intricate spatio-temporal data heterogeneity and non-stationarity inherent in both intra-station and inter-station metro ridership patterns. Finally, we propose a transformer-based mid-term relationship prediction model for metro flow prediction. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on metro flow data from Beijing and Shanghai, the advantages of our method in predicting metro ridership flow at the station level has been well demonstrated through experiments with more than 11 reference lines. 2023 Semi-supervised Speech-driven 3D Facial Animation via Cross-modal Encoding
abstract
Existing Speech-driven 3D facial animation methods typically follow the supervised paradigm, involving regression from speech to 3D facial animation. This paradigm faces two major challenges: the high cost of supervision acquisition, and the ambiguity in mapping between speech and lip movements. To address these challenges, this study proposes a novel cross-modal semi-supervised framework, comprising a Speech-to-Image Transcoder and a Face-to-Geometry Regressor. The former jointly learns a common representation space from speech and image domains, enabling the transformation of speech into semantically-consistent facial images. The latter is responsible for reconstructing 3D facial meshes from the transformed images. Both modules require minimal effort to acquire the necessary training data, thereby obviating the dependence on costly supervised data. Furthermore, the joint learning scheme enables the fusion of intricate visual features into speech encoding, thereby facilitating the transformation of subtle speech variations into nuanced lip movements, ultimately enhancing the fidelity of 3D face reconstructions. Consequently, the ambiguity of the direct mapping of speech-to-animation is significantly reduced, leading to coherent and high-fidelity generation of lip motion. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach produces competitive results compared to supervised methods.

2023 XFormer: Fast and Accurate Monocular 3D Body Capture
abstract
We present XFormer, a novel human mesh and motion capture method that achieves real-time performance on consumer CPUs given only monocular images as input. The proposed network architecture contains two branches: a keypoint branch that estimates 3D human mesh vertices given 2D keypoints, and an image branch that makes prediction directly from the RGB image features. At the core of our method is a cross-modal transformer block that allows information flow across these two branches by modeling the attention between 2D keypoint coordinates and image spatial features. Our architecture is smartly designed, which enables us to train on various types of datasets including images with 2D/3D annotations, images with 3D pseudo labels, and motion capture datasets that do not have associated images. This effectively improves the accuracy and generalization ability of our system. Built on a lightweight backbone (MobileNetV3), our method runs blazing fast (over 30fps on a single CPU core) and still yields competitive accuracy. Furthermore, with a HRNet backbone, XFormer delivers state-of-the-art performance on Huamn3.6 and 3DPW datasets.

2018 Video Summarization via Semantic Attended Networks
abstract
The goal of video summarization is to distill a raw video into a more compact form without losing much semantic information. However, previous methods mainly consider the diversity and representation interestingness of the obtained summary, and they seldom pay sufficient attention to semantic information of resulting frame set, especially the long temporal range semantics. To explicitly address this issue, we propose a novel technique which is able to extract the most semantically relevant video segments (i.e., valid for a long term temporal duration) and assemble them into an informative summary. To this end, we develop a semantic attended video summarization network (SASUM) which consists of a frame selector and video descriptor to select an appropriate number of video shots by minimizing the distance between the generated description sentence of the summarized video and the human annotated text of the original video. Extensive experiments show that our method achieves a superior performance gain over previous methods on two benchmark datasets.

2018 Multiple Granularity Group Interaction Prediction
abstract
Most human activity analysis works (i.e., recognition or prediction) only focus on a single granularity, i.e., either modelling global motion based on the coarse level movement such as human trajectories or forecasting future detailed action based on body parts' movement such as skeleton motion. In contrast, in this work, we propose a multi-granularity interaction prediction network which integrates both global motion and detailed local action. Built on a bidirectional LSTM network, the proposed method possesses between granularities links which encourage feature sharing as well as cross-feature consistency between both global and local granularity (e.g., trajectory or local action), and in turn predict long-term global location and local dynamics of each individual. We validate our method on several public datasets with promising performance.

2018 Structure Guided Photorealistic Style Transfer
abstract
Recent style transfer methods based on deep networks strive to generate more content matching stylized images by adding semantic guidance in the iterative process. However, these approaches can just guarantee the transfer of integral color and texture distribution between semantically equivalent regions, but local variation within these regions cannot be accurately captured. Therefore, the resulting image lacks local plausibility. To this end, we develop a non-parametric patch based style transfer framework to synthesize more content coherent images. By designing a novel patch matching algorithm which simultaneously takes high-level category information and geometric structure information (e.g., human pose and building structure) into account, our proposed method is capable of transferring more detailed distribution and producing more photorealistic stylized images. We show that our approach achieves remarkable style transfer results on contents with geometric structure, including human body, vehicles, buildings, etc.
