2023 A Method for 3D Human Pose Estimation and Similarity Calculation in Tai Chi Videos
abstract
Human pose estimation from video sequences has become a hot research topic in the domain of robotics and computer vision. However, existing three-dimensional (3D) pose estimation methods usually analyze individual frames, which have a low accuracy due to various human movement speed, limiting its practical application. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating 3D pose and calculating similarity from Tai Chi video sequences based on Seq2Seq network. Specifically, using 2D joint point coordinate sequence of the original image as input, our method constructs an encoder and a decoder to build a Seq2Seq network. Our method introduces an attention mechanism for weighing the input data to obtain an intermediate vector and decode it to estimate the 3D joint point sequence. Afterwards, using a template video and a target video as input, our method calculates the cost of passing through each point within the constraints to construct a cost matrix for video similarity. With the cost matrix, our method can determine the optimal path and use the correspondence of the video sequence to calculate the image similarity of the corresponding frame. The experimental data show that the proposed method can effectively improve the accuracy of 3D pose estimation, and increase the speed for video similarity calculation.

2023 A Social Distance Monitoring Method Based on Improved YOLOv4 for Surveillance Videos
abstract
Social distance monitoring is of great significance for public health in the era of COVID-19 pandemic. However, existing monitoring methods cannot effectively detect social distance in terms of efficiency, accuracy, and robustness. In this paper, we proposed a social distance monitoring method based on an improved YOLOv4 algorithm. Specifically, our method constructs and pre-processes a dataset. Afterwards, our method screens the valid samples and improves the K-means clustering algorithm based on the IoU distance. Then, our method detects the target pedestrians using a trained improved YOLOv4 algorithm and gets the pedestrian target detection frame location information. Finally, our method defines the observation depth parameters, generates the 3D feature space, and clusters the offending aggregation groups based on the L2 parametric distance to finally realize the pedestrian social distance monitoring of 2D video. Experiments show that the proposed social distance monitoring method based on improved YOLOv4 can accurately detect pedestrian target locations in video images, where the pre-processing operation and improved K-means algorithm can improve the pedestrian target detection accuracy. Our method can cluster the offending groups without going through calibration mapping transformation to realize the pedestrian social distance monitoring of 2D videos.

2021 Image Manipulation Detection by Multi-View Multi-Scale Supervision
abstract
The key challenge of image manipulation detection is how to learn generalizable features that are sensitive to manipulations in novel data, whilst specific to prevent false alarms on authentic images. Current research emphasizes the sensitivity, with the specificity overlooked. In this paper we address both aspects by multi-view feature learning and multi-scale supervision. By exploiting noise distribution and boundary artifact surrounding tampered regions, the former aims to learn semantic-agnostic and thus more generalizable features. The latter allows us to learn from authentic images which are nontrivial to be taken into account by current semantic segmentation network based methods. Our thoughts are realized by a new network which we term MVSS-Net. Extensive experiments on five benchmark sets justify the viability of MVSS-Net for both pixel-level and image-level manipulation detection.

2021 SEA: Sentence Encoder Assembly for Video Retrieval by Textual Queries
abstract
Retrieving unlabeled videos by textual queries, known as Ad-hoc Video Search (AVS), is a core theme in multimedia data management and retrieval. The success of AVS counts on cross-modal representation learning that encodes both query sentences and videos into common spaces for semantic similarity computation. Inspired by the initial success of previously few works in combining multiple sentence encoders, this paper takes a step forward by developing a new and general method for effectively exploiting diverse sentence encoders. The novelty of the proposed method, which we termSentence Encoder Assembly(SEA), is two-fold. First, different from prior art that uses only a single common space, SEA supports text-video matching in multiple encoder-specific common spaces. Such a property prevents the matching from being dominated by a specific encoder that produces an encoding vector much longer than other encoders. Second, in order to explore complementarities among the individual common spaces, we propose multi-space multi-loss learning. As extensive experiments on four benchmarks (MSR-VTT, TRECVID AVS 2016-2019, TGIF and MSVD) show, SEA surpasses the state-of-the-art. In addition, SEA is extremely ease to implement. All this makes SEA an appealing solution for AVS and promising for continuously advancing the task by harvesting new sentence encoders.

2020 A W2VV++ Case Study with Automated and Interactive Text-to-Video Retrieval
abstract
As reported by respected evaluation campaigns focusing both on automated and interactive video search approaches, deep learning started to dominate the video retrieval area. However, the results are still not satisfactory for many types of search tasks focusing on high recall. To report on this challenging problem, we present two orthogonal task-based performance studies centered around the state-of-the-art W2VV++ query representation learning model for video retrieval. First, an ablation study is presented to investigate which components of the model are effective in two types of benchmark tasks focusing on high recall. Second, interactive search scenarios from the Video Browser Showdown are analyzed for two winning prototype systems implementing a selected variant of the model and providing additional querying and visualization components. The analysis of collected logs demonstrates that even with the state-of-the-art text search video retrieval model, it is still auspicious to integrate users into the search process for task types, where high recall is essential.

2019 Infrared and Visible Image Fusion Method by Using Hybrid Representation Learning
abstract
For remote sensing image fusion, infrared and visible images have very different brightness due to their disparate imaging mechanisms, the result of which is that nontarget regions in the infrared image often affect the fusion of details in the visible image. This letter proposes a novel infrared and visible image fusion method basing hybrid representation learning by combining dictionary-learning-based joint sparse representation (JSR) and nonnegative sparse representation (NNSR). In the proposed method, different fusion strategies are adopted, respectively, for the mean image, which represents the primary energy information, and for the deaveraged image, which contains important detail features. Since the deaveraged image contains a large amount of high-frequency details information of the source image, JSR is utilized to sparsely and accurately extract the common and innovation features of the deaveraged image, thus, accurately merging high-frequency details in the deaveraged image. Then, the mean image represents low-frequency and overview features of the source image, according to NNSR, mean image is classified well-directed to different feature regions and then fused, respectively. Such proposed method, on the one hand, can eliminate the impact on fusion result suffering from very different brightness causing by different imaging mechanism between infrared and visible image; on the other hand, it can improve the readability and accuracy of the result fusion image. Experimental result shows that, compared with the classical and state-of-the-art fusion methods, the proposed method not only can accurately integrate the infrared target but also has rich background details of the visible image, and the fusion effect is superior.
