| 2026 | LLM-Oriented Token-Adaptive Knowledge DistillationabstractKnowledge Distillation (KD) is a key technique for compressing Large-scale Language Models (LLMs), but prevailing logit-based methods employ static strategies misaligned with the student’s dynamic learning process. By treating all tokens indiscriminately with a fixed temperature, these methods result in suboptimal knowledge transfer. To address this, we propose LLM-oriented token-Adaptive Knowledge Distillation (AdaKD), a framework that adapts the distillation process to each token’s real-time learning state. AdaKD consists of two synergistic modules driven by a unified token difficulty metric. First, the Loss-driven Adaptive Token Focusing (LATF) module dynamically concentrates distillation on valuable tokens by monitoring the student’s learning stability. Second, Inverse Difficulty Temperature Scaling (IDTS) introduces a counterintuitive token-level temperature: low for difficult tokens to target error correction, and high for easy tokens to learn the teacher’s smooth output distribution for better generalization. As a plug-and-play framework, AdaKD consistently improves performance across diverse distillation methods, model architectures, and benchmarks. | 2025 | GroundingFace: Fine-grained Face Understanding via Pixel Grounding Multimodal Large Language ModelabstractMultimodal Language Learning Models (MLLMs) have shown remarkable performance in image understanding, generation, and editing, with recent advancements achieving pixel-level grounding with reasoning. However, these models for common objects struggle with fine-grained face understanding. In this work, we introduce the FacePlayGround-240K dataset, the first pioneering large-scale, pixel-grounded face caption and question-answer (QA) dataset that includes 240K images, 47 mask categories, 5.4M mask annotations, and 7.3M grounded regions, meticulously curated for alignment pretraining and instruction-tuning. We present the GroundingFace framework, specifically designed to enhance fine-grained face understanding. This framework significantly augments the capabilities of existing grounding models in face part segmentation, face attribute comprehension, while preserving general scene understanding. Comprehensive experiments validate that our approach surpasses current state-of-the-art models in pixel-grounded face captioning/QA and various downstream tasks, including face captioning, referring segmentation, and zero-shot face attribute recognition. | 2025 | Improving Autoregressive Visual Generation with Cluster-Oriented Token PredictionabstractEmploying LLMs for visual generation has recently become a research focus. However, the existing methods primarily transfer the LLM architecture to visual generation but rarely investigate the fundamental differences between language and vision. This oversight may lead to suboptimal utilization of visual generation capabilities within the LLM framework. In this paper, we explore the characteristics of visual embedding space under the LLM framework and discover that the correlation between visual embeddings can help achieve more stable and robust generation results. We present IAR, an Improved AutoRegressive Visual Generation Method that enhances the training efficiency and generation quality of LLM-based visual generation models. Firstly, we propose a Codebook Rearrangement strategy that uses balanced k-means clustering algorithm to rearrange the visual codebook into clusters, ensuring high similarity among visual features within each cluster. Leveraging the rearranged codebook, we propose a Cluster-oriented Cross-entropy Loss that guides the model to correctly predict the cluster where the target token is located. This approach ensures that even if the model predicts the wrong token index, there is a high probability the predicted token is located in the correct cluster, which significantly enhances the generation quality and robustness. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our IAR consistently enhances the model training efficiency and performance from 100M to 1.4B, reducing the training time by half while achieving the same FID. Additionally, IAR can be applied to various LLM-based visual generation models and adheres to the scaling law, providing a promising direction for future research in LLM-based visual generation. | 2025 | TIMotion: Temporal and Interactive Framework for Efficient Human-Human Motion GenerationabstractHuman-human motion generation is essential for understanding humans as social beings. Current methods fall into two main categories: single-person-based methods and separate modeling-based methods. To delve into this field, we abstract the overall generation process into a general framework MetaMotion, which consists of two phases: temporal modeling and interaction mixing. For temporal modeling, the single-person-based methods concatenate two people into a single one directly, while the separate modeling-based methods skip the modeling of interaction sequences. The inadequate modeling described above resulted in sub-optimal performance and redundant model parameters. In this paper, we introduce TIMotion (Temporal and Interactive Modeling), an efficient and effective framework for human-human motion generation. Specifically, we first propose Causal Interactive Injection to model two separate sequences as a causal sequence leveraging the temporal and causal properties. Then we present Role-Evolving Scanning to adjust to the change in the active and passive roles throughout the interaction. Finally, to generate smoother and more rational motion, we design Localized Pattern Amplification to capture short-term motion patterns. Extensive experiments on InterHuman and Inter-X demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance. Yabiao Wang, Jiangning Zhang, Jiafu Wu, Zhucun Xue, Yong Liu 0007 |

| 2025 | LLaVA-KD: A Framework of Distilling Multimodal Large Language ModelsabstractThe success of Large Language Models (LLMs) has inspired the development of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) for unified understanding of vision and language. However, the increasing model size and computational complexity of large-scale MLLMs (l-MLLMs) limit their use in resource-constrained scenarios. Although small-scale MLLMs (s-MLLMs) are designed to reduce computational costs, they typically suffer from performance degradation. To mitigate this limitation, we propose a novel LLaVA-KD framework to transfer knowledge from l-MLLMs to s-MLLMs. Specifically, we introduce Multimodal Distillation (MDist) to transfer teacher model's robust representations across both visual and linguistic modalities, and Relation Distillation (RDist) to transfer teacher model's ability to capture visual token relationships. Additionally, we propose a three-stage training scheme to fully exploit the potential of the proposed distillation strategy: 1) Distilled Pre-Training to strengthen the alignment between visual-linguistic representations in s-MLLMs, 2) Supervised Fine-Tuning to equip the s-MLLMs with multimodal understanding capacity, and 3) Distilled Fine-Tuning to refine s-MLLM's knowledge. Our approach significantly improves s-MLLMs performance without altering the model architecture. Extensive experiments and ablation studies validate the effectiveness of each proposed component. | 2025 | Multi-Modal Retrieval Augmented Visual Understanding and GenerationabstractThis paper presents a doctoral research focusing on integrating Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) into video-related multimodal tasks. Existing RAG studies predominantly target text, images, or tabular data, overlooking the unique value of video as a knowledge carrier. We address this gap by: 1) proposing AdaVideoRAG, a framework that adaptively allocates retrieval strategies based on query complexity for long-video understanding; 2) developing REViG (RAG-Enhanced Video Generation) to optimize prompt engineering via retrieved knowledge for controllable video synthesis; 3) constructing the UltraVideo dataset (UHD-4K/8K resolution, 100+ themes, 10 structured captions per video) and HiVU/HiVG benchmarks to evaluate RAG-driven video tasks. Experiments validate the effectiveness of our methods, and we outline future plans to unify video understanding and generation through Agentic RAG for AGI-oriented research. Zhucun Xue |

| 2025 | UltraVideo: High-Quality UHD Video Dataset with Comprehensive CaptionsabstractThe quality of the video dataset (image quality, resolution, and fine-grained caption) greatly influences the performance of the video generation model. %The growing demand for video applications sets higher requirements for high-quality video generation models. %For example, the generation of movie-level Ultra-High Definition (UHD) videos and the creation of 4K short video content. %However, the existing public datasets cannot support related research and applications. %In this paper, we first propose a high-quality open-sourced UHD-4K (22.4\% of which are 8K) text-to-video dataset named UltraVideo, which contains a wide range of topics (more than 100 kinds), and each video has 9 structured captions with one summarized caption (average of 824 words). %Specifically, we carefully design a highly automated curation process with four stages to obtain the final high-quality dataset: i) collection of diverse and high-quality video clips. ii statistical data filtering. iii) model-based data purification. iv) generation of comprehensive, structured captions. %In addition, we expand Wan to UltraWan-1K/-4K, which can natively generate high-quality 1K/4K videos with more consistent text controllability, demonstrating the effectiveness of our data curation.%We believe that this work can make a significant contribution to future research on UHD video generation. | 2025 | AdaVideoRAG: Omni-Contextual Adaptive Retrieval-Augmented Efficient Long Video UnderstandingabstractMultimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have demonstrated excellent performance in video understanding but suffer from degraded effectiveness when processing long videos due to fixed-length contexts and weaknesses in modeling long-term dependencies. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology can mitigate these limitations through dynamic knowledge expansion, but existing RAG schemes for video understanding employ fixed retrieval paradigms that use uniform structures regardless of input query difficulty. This introduces redundant computational overhead and latency (*e.g.*, complex graph traversal operations) for simple queries (*e.g.*, frame-level object recognition) while potentially causing critical information loss due to insufficient retrieval granularity for multi-hop reasoning. Such single-step retrieval mechanisms severely constrain the model's balance between resource efficiency and cognitive depth.
To address this, we first propose a novel AdaVideoRAG framework for long-video understanding, which uses a lightweight intent classifier to dynamically and adaptively allocate appropriate retrieval schemes, ranging from the simplest to the most sophisticated, for different video understanding tasks based on query complexity. We introduce an Omni-Knowledge Indexing module to extract valuable information from multi-modal signals for context modeling and build corresponding databases, *i.e.*, a text base from clip captions, ASR, and OCR; a visual base; and a graph for deep semantic understanding. This enables hierarchical knowledge access, integration, and generation from naive retrieval to graph retrieval, achieving an optimal balance between resource consumption and video understanding capabilities.
Finally, we construct the HiVU benchmark for deep understanding evaluation. Extensive experiments show that our framework enhances the overall efficiency and accuracy of Video-QA for long videos and can be seamlessly integrated with existing MLLMs via lightweight API calls, establishing a new paradigm for adaptive retrieval augmentation in video analysis. | 2025 | EMOv2: Pushing 5M Vision Model FrontierabstractThis work focuses on developing parameter-efficient and lightweight models for dense predictions while trading off parameters, FLOPs, and performance. Our goal is to set up the new frontier of the 5 M magnitude lightweight model on various downstream tasks. Inverted Residual Block (IRB) serves as the infrastructure for lightweight CNNs, but no counterparts have been recognized by attention-based design. Our work rethinks the lightweight infrastructure of efficient IRB and practical components in Transformer from a unified perspective, extending CNN-based IRB to attention-based models and abstracting a one-residual Meta Mobile Block (MMBlock) for lightweight model design. Following neat but effective design criterion, we deduce a modern Improved Inverted Residual Mobile Block (i$^{2}$2RMB) and improve a hierarchical Efficient MOdel (EMOv2) with no elaborate complex structures. Considering the imperceptible latency for mobile users when downloading models under 4 G/5 G bandwidth and ensuring model performance, we investigate the performance upper limit of lightweight models with a magnitude of 5 M. Extensive experiments on various vision recognition, dense prediction, and image generation tasks demonstrate the superiority of our EMOv2 over state-of-the-art methods, e.g., EMOv2-1 M/2M/5 M achieve 72.3, 75.8, and 79.4 Top-1 that surpass equal-order CNN-/Attention-based models significantly. At the same time, EMOv2-5 M equipped RetinaNet achieves 41.5 mAP for object detection tasks that surpasses the previous EMO-5 M by +2.6$\uparrow$↑ . When employing the more robust training recipe, our EMOv2-5M eventually achieves 82.9 Top-1 accuracy, which elevates the performance of 5M magnitude models to a new level. This work rethinks lightweight infrastructure from efficient IRB and effective components of Transformer from a unified perspective, extending CNN-based IRB to attention-based models and abstracting a one-residual Meta Mobile Block (MMB) for lightweight model design. | 2020 | APB2FACE: Audio-Guided Face Reenactment with Auxiliary Pose and Blink SignalsabstractAudio-guided face reenactment aims at generating photorealistic faces using audio information while maintaining the same facial movement as when speaking to a real person. However, existing methods can not generate vivid face images or only reenact low-resolution faces, which limits the application value. To solve those problems, we propose a novel deep neural network named APB2Face, which consists of GeometryPredictor and FaceReenactor modules. GeometryPredictor uses extra head pose and blink state signals as well as audio to predict the latent landmark geometry information, while FaceReenactor inputs the face landmark image to reenact the photorealistic face. A new dataset AnnV I collected from YouTube is presented to support the approach, and experimental results indicate the superiority of our method than state-of-the-arts, whether in authenticity or controllability. | 2019 | Learning to Calibrate Straight Lines for Fisheye Image RectificationabstractThis paper presents a new deep-learning based method to simultaneously calibrate the intrinsic parameters of fisheye lens and rectify the distorted images. Assuming that the distorted lines generated by fisheye projection should be straight after rectification, we propose a novel deep neural network to impose explicit geometry constraints onto processes of the fisheye lens calibration and the distorted image rectification. In addition, considering the nonlinearity of distortion distribution in fisheye images, the proposed network fully exploits multi-scale perception to equalize the rectification effects on the whole image. To train and evaluate the proposed model, we also create a new large-scale dataset labeled with corresponding distortion parameters and well-annotated distorted lines. Compared with the state-of-the-art methods, our model achieves the best published rectification quality and the most accurate estimation of distortion parameters on a large set of synthetic and real fisheye images.
