2023 Using IRS to Improve the Secrecy Rate of Millimeter Wave Communication System
abstract
With the development of 6G, millimeter wave communication has received extensive attention. Due to the characteristics of wireless transmission, information secrecy transmission is facing significant challenges. This paper uses the physical layer security (PLS) to explore the information secrecy transmission. Specifically, we use Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) to control the wireless propagation environment and improve the secrecy rate of millimeter wave communication. The active beamforming matrix of the base station and the passive beamforming matrix of the IRS are optimized to achieve the maximum secrecy rate. We deduce the closed form solution of active beamforming and the approximate optimal solution of passive beamforming. An alternating optimization (AO) algorithm is applied to solve the non-convex optimization problem. Simulation results verify the convergence and effectiveness of the algorithm, which can obtain nearly twice the secrecy rate gain of the benchmark algorithm.

2023 ChartNavigator: An Interactive Pattern Identification and Annotation Framework for Charts
abstract
Patterns in charts refer to interesting visual features or forms. Identifying patterns not only helps analysts understand the ‘shape’ of the data but also supports better and faster decision-making. Existing solutions for identifying patterns in charts require a large number of labeled data instances, making it intractable without user supervision. In this paper, we propose ChartNavigator, an interactive pattern identification and annotation framework for unlabeled visualization charts. ChartNavigator leverages a novel chart-sensitive deep factor model to map patterns into a low-dimensional factor representation space, and facilitates rich analysis with the derived representations. We design and implement a visual interface to support efficient identification and annotation of potential patterns in charts. Evaluations with multiple datasets show that our approach outperforms the baseline models in identifying and annotating patterns

2022 Hybrid Prediction for Water Quality with Bidirectional LSTM and Temporal Attention
abstract
Accurate prediction of water quality indicators can effectively prevent sudden water pollution events, and control pollution diffusion. Neural networks, e.g., long short-term memory (LSTM) and encoder-decoder network, have been widely used to predict time series data. However, as the water quality data increases, it becomes unstable and highly nonlinear. Accurate prediction of water quality becomes a big challenge. This work proposes a hybrid prediction method called VBAED to predict the water quality time series. VBAED combines Variational mode decomposition (VMD), Bidirectional input Attention mechanism, an Encoder with bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM), and a Decoder with temporal attention mechanism and LSTM. Specifically, VBAED first adopts VMD to decompose the ground truth time series, and the decomposed results are used as the input along with other features. Then, a bidirectional input attention mechanism is adopted to add weights to input features from both directions. VBAED adopts BiLSTM as an encoder to extract hidden features from input features. Finally, the predicted result is obtained by an LSTM decoder with a temporal attention mechanism. Real-life data-based experiments demonstrate that VBAED obtains the best prediction results compared with other widely used methods.
