| 2025 | A Multimode Motion Polar Robot: Energy-Saving Through Foldable Sail and Transformable TracksabstractExisting polar robots are constrained by limited energy supply, making it difficult to carry out long-term scientific exploration missions, which highlights an urgent demand for energy conservation. An energy-efficient multi-mode motion polar robot is proposed to address this challenge. Both increasing external assistance and reducing the driving force are critical for lowering energy consumption. A foldable sail is designed to provide external assistance. When unfolded, the sail generates assistive force. When folded, it maintains stability in extreme polar climates. The sail shape is designed based on a symmetrically extended NACA0018 airfoil, and the influence of different sail parameters on performance is discussed. The transformable tracks realize switching between traction and sliding modes through the separation of the track and teeth chain, using the sliding mode to reduce driving force. The effect of teeth parameter variations on traction performance is analyzed. The system kinematics and dynamics are model, and stability conditions are determined. Based on this, an energy-saving motion control framework for multi-mode motion is proposed. Finally, experiments are conducted to evaluate the energy-saving contribution of each independent mode under different configurations. Comprehensive experiments in multi-mode motion demonstrate an overall energy-saving rate of approximately 24%, verifying the effectiveness of the energy-saving motion control strategy. With its energy-saving advantages, this robot shows strong potential for enabling long-term scientific exploration in polar regions. | 2022 | Tencent-MVSE: A Large-Scale Benchmark Dataset for Multi-Modal Video Similarity EvaluationabstractMulti-modal video similarity evaluation is important for video recommendation systems such as video de-duplication, relevance matching, ranking, and diversity control. However, there still lacks a benchmark dataset that can support supervised training and accurate evaluation. In this paper, we propose the Tencent-MVSE dataset, which is the first benchmark dataset for the multi-modal video similarity evaluation task. The Tencent-MVSE dataset contains video pairs similarity annotations, and diverse metadata including Chinese title, automatic speech recognition (ASR) text, as well as human-annotated categories/tags. We provide a simple baseline with a multi-modal Transformer architecture to perform supervised multi-modal video similarity evaluation. We also explore pre-training strategies to make use of the unpaired data. The whole dataset as well as our baseline will be released to promote the development of the multi-modal video similarity evaluation. The dataset has been released in https://tencent-mvse.github.io/. | 2020 | Hierarchical Neural Architecture Search for Single Image Super-ResolutionabstractDeep neural networks have exhibited promising performance in image super-resolution (SR). Most SR models follow a hierarchical architecture that contains both the cell-level design of computational blocks and the network-level design of the positions of upsampling blocks. However, designing SR models heavily relies on human expertise and is very labor-intensive. More critically, these SR models often contain a huge number of parameters and may not meet the requirements of computation resources in real-world applications. To address the above issues, we propose a Hierarchical Neural Architecture Search (HNAS) method to automatically design promising architectures with different requirements of computation cost. To this end, we design a hierarchical SR search space and propose a hierarchical controller for architecture search. Such a hierarchical controller is able to simultaneously find promising cell-level blocks and network-level positions of upsampling layers. Moreover, to design compact architectures with promising performance, we build a joint reward by considering both the performance and computation cost to guide the search process. Extensive experiments on five benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method over existing methods. Yongsheng Luo, Zhenhao He, Jin Huang 0003, Jian Chen 0011 |

| 2019 | Multi-Level Visual-Semantic Alignments with Relation-Wise Dual Attention Network for Image and Text MatchingabstractImage-text matching is central to visual-semantic cross-modal retrieval and has been attracting extensive attention recently. Previous studies have been devoted to finding the latent correspondence between image regions and words, e.g., connecting key words to specific regions of salient objects. However, existing methods are usually committed to handle concrete objects, rather than abstract ones, e.g., a description of some action, which in fact are also ubiquitous in description texts of real-world. The main challenge in dealing with abstract objects is that there is no explicit connections between them, unlike their concrete counterparts. One therefore has to alternatively find the implicit and intrinsic connections between them. In this paper, we propose a relation-wise dual attention network (RDAN) for image-text matching. Specifically, we maintain an over-complete set that contains pairs of regions and words. Then built upon this set, we encode the local correlations and the global dependencies between regions and words by training a visual-semantic network. Then a dual pathway attention network is presented to infer the visual-semantic alignments and image-text similarity. Extensive experiments validate the efficacy of our method, by achieving the state-of-the-art performance on several public benchmark datasets.
