2026 Learning hierarchical time-frequency representation for long-term time series forecasting
abstract
Time series forecasting is essential for planning and management across various domains. Existing models struggle to maintain long-term trends in extended predictions and overlook the interplay between time and frequency-domain dependencies. To address these challenges, we propose TFformer, a hierarchical time–frequency representation architecture with Transformer, involving two key innovations: (i) spectrum decomposition isolates long-term patterns from short-term fluctuations and (ii) sequence aggregation integrates two categories of features distinguished by different energy intensities in a hierarchical manner. Experiments on six real-world datasets show that TFformer outperforms the frequency-domain baseline (FreTS) with an average 16.54% improvement in Mean Squared Error (MSE) and surpasses the time-domain baseline (iTransformer) with an average 5.91% MSE improvement, highlighting its effectiveness in capturing both time and frequency-domain patterns.

2025 Text-to-Decision Agent: Offline Meta-Reinforcement Learning from Natural Language Supervision
abstract
Offline meta-RL usually tackles generalization by inferring task beliefs from high-quality samples or warmup explorations. The restricted form limits their generality and usability since these supervision signals are expensive and even infeasible to acquire in advance for unseen tasks. Learning directly from the raw text about decision tasks is a promising alternative to leverage a much broader source of supervision. In the paper, we propose **T**ext-to-**D**ecision **A**gent (**T2DA**), a simple and scalable framework that supervises offline meta-RL with natural language. We first introduce a generalized world model to encode multi-task decision data into a dynamics-aware embedding space. Then, inspired by CLIP, we predict which textual description goes with which decision embedding, effectively bridging their semantic gap via contrastive language-decision pre-training and aligning the text embeddings to comprehend the environment dynamics. After training the text-conditioned generalist policy, the agent can directly realize zero-shot text-to-decision generation in response to language instructions. Comprehensive experiments on MuJoCo and Meta-World benchmarks show that T2DA facilitates high-capacity zero-shot generalization and outperforms various types of baselines. 2025 Tomography of Quantum States From Structured Measurements via Quantum-Aware Transformer
abstract
Quantum state tomography (QST) is the process of reconstructing the state of a quantum system (mathematically described as a density matrix) through a series of different measurements, which can be solved by learning a parameterized function to translate experimentally measured statistics into physical density matrices. However, the specific structure of quantum measurements for characterizing a quantum state has been neglected in previous work. In this article, we explore the similarity between highly structured sentences in natural language and intrinsically structured measurements in QST. To fully leverage the intrinsic quantum characteristics involved in QST, we design a quantum-aware transformer (QAT) model to capture the complex relationship between measured frequencies and density matrices. In particular, we query quantum operators in the architecture to facilitate informative representations of quantum data and integrate the Bures distance into the loss function to evaluate quantum state fidelity, thereby enabling the reconstruction of quantum states from measured data with high fidelity. Extensive simulations and experiments (on IBM quantum computers) demonstrate the superiority of the QAT in reconstructing quantum states with favorable robustness against experimental noise.

2024 Towards Effective Usage of Human-Centric Priors in Diffusion Models for Text-based Human Image Generation
abstract
Vanilla text-to-image diffusion models struggle with generating accurate human images, commonly resulting in imperfect anatomies such as unnatural postures or disproportionate limbs. Existing methods address this issue mostly by fine-tuning the model with extra images or adding additional control - human-centric priors such as pose or depth maps - during the image generation phase. This paper explores the integration of these human-centric priors directly into the model fine-tuning stage, essentially eliminating the need for extra conditions at the inference stage. We realize this idea by proposing a human-centric alignment loss to strengthen human-related information from the textual prompts within the cross-attention maps. To ensure semantic detail richness and human structural accuracy during fine-tuning, we introduce scale-aware and step-wise constraints within the diffusion process, according to an indepth analysis of the cross-attention layer. Extensive experiments show that our method largely improves over state-of-the-art text-to-image models to synthesize high-quality human images based on user-written prompts. 2024 EGGen: Image Generation with Multi-entity Prior Learning through Entity Guidance
abstract
Diffusion models have shown remarkable prowess in text-to-image synthesis and editing, yet they often stumble when tasked with interpreting complex prompts that describe multiple entities with specific attributes and interrelations. The generated images often contain inconsistent multi-entity representation (IMR), reflected as inaccurate presentations of the multiple entities and their attributes. Although providing spatial layout guidance improves the multi-entity generation quality in existing works, it is still challenging to handle the leakage attributes and avoid unnatural characteristics. To address the IMR challenge, we first conduct in-depth analyses of the diffusion process and attention operation, revealing that the IMR challenges largely stem from the process of cross-attention mechanisms. According to the analyses, we introduce the entity guidance generation mechanism, which maintains the integrity of the original diffusion model parameters by integrating plug-in networks. Our work advances the stable diffusion model by segmenting comprehensive prompts into distinct entity-specific prompts with bounding boxes, enabling a transition from multi-entity to single-entity generation in cross-attention layers. More importantly, we introduce entity-centric cross-attention layers that focus on individual entities to preserve their uniqueness and accuracy, alongside global entity alignment layers that refine cross-attention maps using multi-entity priors for precise positioning and attribute accuracy. Additionally, a linear attenuation module is integrated to progressively reduce the influence of these layers during inference, preventing oversaturation and preserving generation fidelity. Our comprehensive experiments demonstrate that this entity guidance generation enhances existing text-to-image models in generating detailed, multi-entity images.

2022 Jmpnet: Joint Motion Prediction for Learning-Based Video Compression
abstract
In recent years, more attention is attracted by learning-based approaches in the field of video compression. Recent methods of this kind normally consist of three major components: intra-frame network, motion prediction network, and residual network, among which the motion prediction part is particularly critical for video compression. Benefiting from the optical flow which enables dense motion prediction, recent methods have shown competitive performance compared with traditional codecs. However, problems such as tail shadow and background distortion in the predicted frame remain unsolved. To tackle these problems, JMPNet is introduced in this paper to provide more accurate motion information by using both optical flow and dynamic local filter as well as an attention map to further fuse these motion information in a smarter way. Experimental results show that the proposed method surpasses state-of-the-art (SOTA) rate-distortion (RD) performance in the most data-sets.

2022 MAE-DET: Revisiting Maximum Entropy Principle in Zero-Shot NAS for Efficient Object Detection
abstract
In object detection, the detection backbone consumes more than half of the overall inference cost. Recent researches attempt to reduce this cost by optimizing the backbone architecture with the help of Neural Architecture Search (NAS). However, existing NAS methods for object detection require hundreds to thousands of GPU hours of searching, making them impractical in fast-paced research and development. In this work, we propose a novel zero-shot NAS method to address this issue. The proposed method, named MAE-DET, automatically designs efficient detection backbones via the Maximum Entropy Principle without training network parameters, reducing the architecture design cost to nearly zero yet delivering the state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance. Under the hood, MAE-DET maximizes the differential entropy of detection backbones, leading to a better feature extractor for object detection under the same computational budgets. After merely one GPU day of fully automatic design, MAE-DET innovates SOTA detection backbones on multiple detection benchmark datasets with little human intervention. Comparing to ResNet-50 backbone, MAE-DET is $+2.0%$ better in mAP when using the same amount of FLOPs/parameters, and is $1.54$ times faster on NVIDIA V100 at the same mAP. 2022 Entropy-Driven Mixed-Precision Quantization for Deep Network Design
abstract
Deploying deep convolutional neural networks on Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices is challenging due to the limited computational resources, such as limited SRAM memory and Flash storage. Previous works re-design a small network for IoT devices, and then compress the network size by mixed-precision quantization. This two-stage procedure cannot optimize the architecture and the corresponding quantization jointly, leading to sub-optimal tiny deep models. In this work, we propose a one-stage solution that optimizes both jointly and automatically. The key idea of our approach is to cast the joint architecture design and quantization as an Entropy Maximization process. Particularly, our algorithm automatically designs a tiny deep model such that: 1) Its representation capacity measured by entropy is maximized under the given computational budget; 2) Each layer is assigned with a proper quantization precision; 3) The overall design loop can be done on CPU, and no GPU is required. More impressively, our method can directly search high-expressiveness architecture for IoT devices within less than half a CPU hour. Extensive experiments on three widely adopted benchmarks, ImageNet, VWW and WIDER FACE, demonstrate that our method can achieve the state-of-the-art performance in the tiny deep model regime. 2021 Zen-NAS: A Zero-Shot NAS for High-Performance Image Recognition
abstract
Accuracy predictor is a key component in Neural Architecture Search (NAS) for ranking architectures. Building a high-quality accuracy predictor usually costs enormous computation. To address this issue, instead of using an accuracy predictor, we propose a novel zero-shot index dubbed Zen-Score to rank the architectures. The Zen-Score represents the network expressivity and positively correlates with the model accuracy. The calculation of Zen-Score only takes a few forward inferences through a randomly initialized network, without training network parameters. Built upon the Zen-Score, we further propose a new NAS algorithm, termed as Zen-NAS, by maximizing the Zen-Score of the target network under given inference budgets. Within less than half GPU day, Zen-NAS is able to directly search high performance architectures in a data-free style. Comparing with previous NAS methods, the proposed Zen-NAS is magnitude times faster on multiple server-side and mobile-side GPU platforms with state-of-the-art accuracy on ImageNet. Searching and training code as well as pre-trained models are available from https://github.com/idstcv/ZenNAS.

2021 Interpolation Variable Rate Image Compression
abstract
Compression standards have been used to reduce the cost of image storage and transmission for decades. In recent years, learned image compression methods have been proposed and achieved compelling performance to the traditional standards. However, in these methods, a set of different networks are used for various compression rates, resulting in a high cost in model storage and training. Although some variable-rate approaches have been proposed to reduce the cost by using a single network, most of them brought some performance degradation when applying fine rate control. To enable variable-rate control without sacrificing the performance, we propose an efficient Interpolation Variable-Rate (IVR) network, by introducing a handy Interpolation Channel Attention (InterpCA) module in the compression network. With the use of two hyperparameters for rate control and linear interpolation, the InterpCA achieves a fine PSNR interval of 0.001 dB and a fine rate interval of 0.0001 Bits-Per-Pixel (BPP) with 9000 rates in the IVR network. Experimental results demonstrate that the IVR network is the first variable-rate learned method that outperforms VTM 9.0 (intra) in PSNR and Multiscale Structural Similarity (MS-SSIM).
