| 2026 | Translation Analytics for Freelancers II: Benchmarking Local LLMs for Confidential Translation WorkflowsabstractBuilding on our previous work, this paper develops practical, low-barrier methods for freelance translators and smaller language service providers to evaluate translation technologies using rigorous yet accessible analytic methods. Here we address a high-stakes, specialized need: offline translation for confidentiality-sensitive domains in which privacy constraints preclude the use of cloud-based engines and commercial LLMs. We expand the Reeve Foundation Trilingual Corpus (RFTC) used in our previous work into a multilingual corpus (RFMC) by adding sentence-aligned German and Simplified Chinese reference translations. We then benchmark several locally runnable language models (via Ollama) across four language directions on 1000+ sentences selected from this corpus. We use consistent single-prompt calls without fine-tuning or domain adaptation, comparing local LLM outputs against commercial NMTs (DeepL, Baidu), a frontier LLM (GPT-5.2), and professional-grade local NMT systems (OPUS-CAT, NeuralDesktop, Promt). Automatic evaluation is conducted with MATEO. Results reveal substantial variation in local LLM performance across language directions and model sizes. The best local LLMs match or surpass local NMT systems and a frontier LLM, though they remain behind top commercial NMTs. These findings underscore the viability of carefully selected local LLM translation for privacy-constrained professionals and inform future research on model scaling and multilingual capability. | 2020 | Automatic 3D point cloud registration algorithm based on triangle similarity ratio consistencyabstractThree‐dimensional (3D) point cloud registration is a fundamental key issue in 3D reconstruction, 3D object recognition and augmented reality. In this study, the authors propose a novel local feature descriptor called local angle statistics histogram (LASH) for efficient 3D point cloud registration. LASH forms a description of local shape geometries by encoding their properties on angles between the normal vector of the point and the vector formed by the point and other points in its local neighbourhood. In addition, they propose a 3D point cloud registration algorithm based on LASH. The registration algorithm firstly detects triangle matching points with consistent similarity ratios, and then aggregates each pair of triangular matching points into a set of matching points. They can use these matching sets to calculate multiple transformations between two point clouds. Finally, they use the error function to identify the best transformation and to achieve coarse alignment of the two point clouds. Experiments and comparisons with other global algorithms demonstrate that the proposed approach can be applied to register point clouds with considerable or limited overlaps and is robust to noise. | 2020 | Dream-Experiment: A MR User Interface with Natural Multi-channel Interaction for Virtual ExperimentsabstractThis paper studies a set of MR technologies for middle school experimental teaching environments and develops a multi-channel MR user interface called Dream-Experiment. The goal of Dream-Experiment is to improve the traditional MR user interface, so that users can get a real, natural 3D interactive experience like real experiments, but without danger and pollution. In terms of visual presentation, we design multi-camera collaborative registration to realize robust 6-DoF MR interactive space, and also define a complete rendering pipeline to provide improved processing of virtual-real objects' occlusion including translucent devices. In the virtual-real interaction, we provide six interaction modes that support visual interaction, tangible interaction, virtual-real gestures with touching, voice, thermal feeling, and olfactory feeling. After users' testing, we find that Dream-Experiment has better interactive efficiency and user experience than traditional MR environments.
