| 2019 | An ancillary genomics system to support the return of pharmacogenomic resultsabstractExisting approaches to managing genetic and genomic test results from external laboratories typically include filing of text reports within the electronic health record, making them unavailable in many cases for clinical decision support. Even when structured computable results are available, the lack of adopted standards requires considerations for processing the results into actionable knowledge, in addition to storage and management of the data. Here, we describe the design and implementation of an ancillary genomics system used to receive and process heterogeneous results from external laboratories, which returns a descriptive phenotype to the electronic health record in support of pharmacogenetic clinical decision support. | 2006 | Grid resource management - Designing a runtime system for volunteer computingabstractVolunteer computing is a form of distributed computing in which the general public volunteers processing and storage to scientific research projects. BOINC, a middleware system for volunteer computing, is currently used by about 20 projects, to which 300,000 volunteers and 450,000 computers supply 350 TeraFLOPS of processing power. A BOINC client program runs on the volunteered hosts and manages the execution of applications. Together with a library linked to applications, it implements a runtime system providing process management, graphics control, checkpointing, file access, and other functions. This runtime system must handle widely varying applications, must provide features and properties desired by volunteers, and must work on many platforms. This paper describes the problems in designing a runtime system having these properties, and how these problems are solved in BOINC. David P. Anderson, Carl Christensen, Bruce Allen |

| 2005 | The Challenge of Volunteer Computing with Lengthy Climate Model SimulationsabstractThis paper describes the issues confronted by the climateprediction.net project in creating a volunteer computing project using a large legacy climate model application. This application typically takes from weeks to months to complete one simulation, and has large memory and disk usage requirements. We describe issues in porting the climate model to a single-processor PC platform, checkpointing, computer resources and workunit size for a simulation, and the volunteer computing infrastructures used (a project-specific system and BOINC). We also describe the methods used to obtain and retain users, and examine the retention/attrition rate of users running the lengthy modelling simulations Carl Christensen, Tolu Aina, David A. | 1986 | A workstation-mixed model circuit simulatorabstractA new mixed mode simulator is described, which combines a behavioral timing simulator, a switch level simulator, and a new circuit-level simulator based upon the ADEPT timing simulation algorithm. These simulation algorithms are combined into a single, consistent, interactive MOS simulator. In addition, STAFAN fault simulation is provided at the transistor level to grade vectors to be used in the testing phase of design. In this paper, each algorithm is described as well as the interfacing required between each of the simulation methods. Peter Odryna, Kevin Nazareth, Carl Christensen |
