| 2024 | On the Evaluation of Large Language Models in Unit Test GenerationabstractUnit testing is an essential activity in software development for verifying the correctness of software components. However, manually writing unit tests is challenging and time-consuming. The emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) offers a new direction for automating unit test generation. Existing research primarily focuses on closed-source LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT and CodeX) with fixed prompting strategies, leaving the capabilities of advanced open-source LLMs with various prompting settings unexplored. Particularly, open-source LLMs offer advantages in data privacy protection and have demonstrated superior performance in some tasks. Moreover, effective prompting is crucial for maximizing LLMs' capabilities. In this paper, we conduct the first empirical study to fill this gap, based on 17 Java projects, five widely-used open-source LLMs with different structures and parameter sizes, and comprehensive evaluation metrics. Our findings highlight the significant influence of various prompt factors, show the performance of open-source LLMs compared to the commercial GPT-4 and the traditional Evosuite, and identify limitations in LLM-based unit test generation. We then derive a series of implications from our study to guide future research and practical use of LLM-based unit test generation. | 2022 | Biomarker interaction selection and disease detection based on multivariate gain ratioabstractBACKGROUND: Disease detection is an important aspect of biotherapy. With the development of biotechnology and computer technology, there are many methods to detect disease based on single biomarker. However, biomarker does not influence disease alone in some cases. It's the interaction between biomarkers that determines disease status. The existing influence measure I-score is used to evaluate the importance of interaction in determining disease status, but there is a deviation about the number of variables in interaction when applying I-score. To solve the problem, we propose a new influence measure Multivariate Gain Ratio (MGR) based on Gain Ratio (GR) of single-variate, which provides us with multivariate combination called interaction. RESULTS: We propose a preprocessing verification algorithm based on partial predictor variables to select an appropriate preprocessing method. In this paper, an algorithm for selecting key interactions of biomarkers and applying key interactions to construct a disease detection model is provided. MGR is more credible than I-score in the case of interaction containing small number of variables. Our method behaves better with average accuracy [Formula: see text] than I-score of [Formula: see text] in Breast Cancer Wisconsin (Diagnostic) Dataset. Compared to the classification results [Formula: see text] based on all predictor variables, MGR identifies the true main biomarkers and realizes the dimension reduction. In Leukemia Dataset, the experiment results show the effectiveness of MGR with the accuracy of [Formula: see text] compared to I-score with accuracy [Formula: see text]. The results can be explained by the nature of MGR and I-score mentioned above because every key interaction contains a small number of variables in Leukemia Dataset. CONCLUSIONS: MGR is effective for selecting important biomarkers and biomarker interactions even in high-dimension feature space in which the interaction could contain more than two biomarkers. The prediction ability of interactions selected by MGR is better than I-score in the case of interaction containing small number of variables. MGR is generally applicable to various types of biomarker datasets including cell nuclei, gene, SNPs and protein datasets. Xiao Chu, Mao Jiang, Zhuo-Jun Liu |

| 2018 | A Cascaded Inception of Inception Network With Attention Modulated Feature Fusion for Human Pose EstimationabstractAccurate keypoint localization of human pose needs diversified features: the high level for contextual dependencies and the low level for detailed refinement of joints. However, the importance of the two factors varies from case to case, but how to efficiently use the features is still an open problem. Existing methods have limitations in preserving low level features, adaptively adjusting the importance of different levels of features, and modeling the human perception process. This paper presents three novel techniques step by step to efficiently utilize different levels of features for human pose estimation. Firstly, an inception of inception (IOI) block is designed to emphasize the low level features. Secondly, an attention mechanism is proposed to adjust the importance of individual levels according to the context. Thirdly, a cascaded network is proposed to sequentially localize the joints to enforce message passing from joints of stand-alone parts like head and torso to remote joints like wrist or ankle. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance on both MPII and LSP benchmarks. | 2018 | Visual Question Generation as Dual Task of Visual Question AnsweringabstractVisual question answering (VQA) and visual question generation (VQG) are two trending topics in the computer vision, but they are usually explored separately despite their intrinsic complementary relationship. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end unified model, the Invertible Question Answering Network (iQAN), to introduce question generation as a dual task of question answering to improve the VQA performance. With our proposed invertible bilinear fusion module and parameter sharing scheme, our iQAN can accomplish VQA and its dual task VQG simultaneously. By jointly trained on two tasks with our proposed dual regularizes (termed as Dual Training), our model has a better understanding of the interactions among images, questions and answers. After training, iQAN can take either question or answer as input, and output the counterpart. Evaluated on the CLEVR and VQA2 datasets, our iQAN improves the top-1 accuracy of the prior art MUTAN VQA method by 1.33% and 0.88% (absolute increase) respectiely. We also show that our proposed dual training framework can consistently improve model performances of many popular VQA architectures1. | 2017 | Multi-context Attention for Human Pose EstimationabstractIn this paper, we propose to incorporate convolutional neural networks with a multi-context attention mechanism into an end-to-end framework for human pose estimation. We adopt stacked hourglass networks to generate attention maps from features at multiple resolutions with various semantics. The Conditional Random Field (CRF) is utilized to model the correlations among neighboring regions in the attention map. We further combine the holistic attention model, which focuses on the global consistency of the full human body, and the body part attention model, which focuses on detailed descriptions for different body parts. Hence our model has the ability to focus on different granularity from local salient regions to global semantic consistent spaces. Additionally, we design novel Hourglass Residual Units (HRUs) to increase the receptive field of the network. These units are extensions of residual units with a side branch incorporating filters with larger receptive field, hence features with various scales are learned and combined within the HRUs. The effectiveness of the proposed multi-context attention mechanism and the hourglass residual units is evaluated on two widely used human pose estimation benchmarks. Our approach outperforms all existing methods on both benchmarks over all the body parts. Code has been made publicly available. Xiao Chu, Wei Yang 0019, Wanli Ouyang, Alan L. | 2016 | Structured Feature Learning for Pose EstimationabstractIn this paper, we propose a structured feature learning framework to reason the correlations among body joints at the feature level in human pose estimation. Different from existing approaches of modeling structures on score maps or predicted labels, feature maps preserve substantially richer descriptions of body joints. The relationships between feature maps of joints are captured with the introduced geometrical transform kernels, which can be easily implemented with a convolution layer. Features and their relationships are jointly learned in an end-to-end learning system. A bi-directional tree structured model is proposed, so that the feature channels at a body joint can well receive information from other joints. The proposed framework improves feature learning substantially. With very simple post processing, it reaches the best mean PCP on the LSP and FLIC datasets. Compared with the baseline of learning features at each joint separately with ConvNet, the mean PCP has been improved by 18% on FLIC. The code is released to the public. | 2016 | CRF-CNN: Modeling Structured Information in Human Pose EstimationabstractDeep convolutional neural networks (CNN) have achieved great success. On the other hand, modeling structural information has been proved critical in many vision problems. It is of great interest to integrate them effectively. In a classical neural network, there is no message passing between neurons in the same layer. In this paper, we propose a CRF-CNN framework which can simultaneously model structural information in both output and hidden feature layers in a probabilistic way, and it is applied to human pose estimation. A message passing scheme is proposed, so that in various layers each body joint receives messages from all the others in an efficient way. Such message passing can be implemented with convolution between features maps in the same layer, and it is also integrated with feedforward propagation in neural networks. Finally, a neural network implementation of end-to-end learning CRF-CNN is provided. Its effectiveness is demonstrated through experiments on two benchmark datasets. | 2015 | Multi-task Recurrent Neural Network for Immediacy PredictionabstractIn this paper, we propose to predict immediacy for interacting persons from still images. A complete immediacy set includes interactions, relative distance, body leaning direction and standing orientation. These measures are found to be related to the attitude, social relationship, social interaction, action, nationality, and religion of the communicators. A large-scale dataset with 10,000 images is constructed, in which all the immediacy measures and the human poses are annotated. We propose a rich set of immediacy representations that help to predict immediacy from imperfect 1-person and 2-person pose estimation results. A multi-task deep recurrent neural network is constructed to take the proposed rich immediacy representation as input and learn the complex relationship among immediacy predictions multiple steps of refinement. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is proved through extensive experiments on the large scale dataset. Xiao Chu, Wanli Ouyang, Wei Yang 0019, Xiaogang Wang 0001 |

| 2014 | Multi-source Deep Learning for Human Pose EstimationabstractVisual appearance score, appearance mixture type and deformation are three important information sources for human pose estimation. This paper proposes to build a multi-source deep model in order to extract non-linear representation from these different aspects of information sources. With the deep model, the global, high-order human body articulation patterns in these information sources are extracted for pose estimation. The task for estimating body locations and the task for human detection are jointly learned using a unified deep model. The proposed approach can be viewed as a post-processing of pose estimation results and can flexibly integrate with existing methods by taking their information sources as input. By extracting the non-linear representation from multiple information sources, the deep model outperforms state-of-the-art by up to 8.6 percent on three public benchmark datasets. | 2008 | A Game Theoretic Approach to Optimize the Performance of Host-Based IDSabstractA traditional host-based intrusion detection system (HIDS) has to continuously monitor thousands of objects on the host, regardless of whether or not there are any attacks and in what scenarios these attacks have been occurred. This leads to a huge consumption of system resources. In this paper, we put forward an approach that dynamically adjusts the objects a HIDS monitors according to the expected attack scenario. To achieve this goal, we formulate a repeated non-cooperative game between an attacker and a HIDS. The solution leads the HIDS to find the optimal number of objects that should be monitored and the corresponding monitored time. We study the case of multiple-step attack to gain more insight of the solution for this game model. Therefore, our model considers the tradeoff between the detection accuracy and the resource consumption. Analysis and simulation results prove that our approach can effectively decrease the resource consumption of the HIDS taking into consideration the detection accuracy. D. Y.
