| 2024 | Dynamic Adapter Meets Prompt Tuning: Parameter-Efficient Transfer Learning for Point Cloud AnalysisabstractPoint cloud analysis has achieved outstanding performance by transferring point cloud pretrained models. However, existing methods for model adaptation usually update all model parameters, i.e., full fine-tuning paradigm, which is inefficient as it relies on high computational costs (e.g., training GPU memory) and massive storage space. In this paper, we aim to study parameter-efficient transfer learning for point cloud analysis with an ideal tradeoff between task performance and parameter efficiency. To achieve this goal, we freeze the parameters of the default pretrained models and then propose the Dynamic Adapter, which generates a dynamic scale for each token, considering the token significance to the downstream task. We further seamlessly integrate Dynamic Adapter with Prompt Tuning (DAPT) by constructing Internal Prompts, capturing the instance-specific features for interaction. Extensive experiments conducted on five challenging datasets demonstrate that the proposed DAPT achieves superior performance compared to the full fine-tuning counterparts while significantly reducing the trainable parameters and training GPU memory by 95% and 35%, respectively. | 2024 | PointMamba: A Simple State Space Model for Point Cloud AnalysisabstractTransformers have become one of the foundational architectures in point cloud analysis tasks due to their excellent global modeling ability. However, the attention mechanism has quadratic complexity, making the design of a linear complexity method with global modeling appealing. In this paper, we propose PointMamba, transferring the success of Mamba, a recent representative state space model (SSM), from NLP to point cloud analysis tasks. Unlike traditional Transformers, PointMamba employs a linear complexity algorithm, presenting global modeling capacity while significantly reducing computational costs. Specifically, our method leverages space-filling curves for effective point tokenization and adopts an extremely simple, non-hierarchical Mamba encoder as the backbone. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate that PointMamba achieves superior performance across multiple datasets while significantly reducing GPU memory usage and FLOPs. This work underscores the potential of SSMs in 3D vision-related tasks and presents a simple yet effective Mamba-based baseline for future research. | 2024 | MoE Jetpack: From Dense Checkpoints to Adaptive Mixture of Experts for Vision TasksabstractThe sparsely activated mixture of experts (MoE) model presents an effective alternative to densely activated (dense) models, combining improved accuracy with computational efficiency. However, training MoE models from scratch requires extensive data and computational resources, a challenge that limits their widespread adoption. To address this, we introduce MoE Jetpack, a framework designed to fine-tune the abundant and easily accessible dense checkpoints into MoE models. MoE Jetpack incorporates two key techniques: (1) **checkpoint recycling**, which initializes MoE models with dense checkpoints to accelerate convergence and enhance accuracy, minimizing the need for extensive pre-training; (2) the **hyperspherical adaptive MoE (SpheroMoE) layer**, which optimizes the MoE architecture to enhance fine-tuning performance and efficiency.
Experimental results indicate that MoE Jetpack doubles the convergence speed and enhances accuracy by 2.8% on ImageNet-1K. On smaller datasets, it achieves up to 8-fold faster convergence and over 30% accuracy gains, highlighting its efficiency.

| 2024 | Turning a CLIP Model Into a Scene Text SpotterabstractWe exploit the potential of the large-scale Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) model to enhance scene text detection and spotting tasks, transforming it into a robust backbone, FastTCM-CR50. This backbone utilizes visual prompt learning and cross-attention in CLIP to extract image and text-based prior knowledge. Using predefined and learnable prompts, FastTCM-CR50 introduces an instance-language matching process to enhance the synergy between image and text embeddings, thereby refining text regions. Our Bimodal Similarity Matching (BSM) module facilitates dynamic language prompt generation, enabling offline computations and improving performance. FastTCM-CR50 offers several advantages: 1) It can enhance existing text detectors and spotters, improving performance by an average of 1.6% and 1.5%, respectively. 2) It outperforms the previous TCM-CR50 backbone, yielding an average improvement of 0.2% and 0.55% in text detection and spotting tasks, along with a 47.1% increase in inference speed. 3) It showcases robust few-shot training capabilities. Utilizing only 10% of the supervised data, FastTCM-CR50 improves performance by an average of 26.5% and 4.7% for text detection and spotting tasks, respectively. 4) It consistently enhances performance on out-of-distribution text detection and spotting datasets, particularly the NightTime-ArT subset from ICDAR2019-ArT and the DOTA dataset for oriented object detection.
