| 2025 | IMLS-Splatting: Efficient Mesh Reconstruction from Multi-view Images via Point RepresentationabstractMulti-view mesh reconstruction has long been a challenging problem in graphics and computer vision. In contrast to recent volumetric rendering methods that generate meshes through post-processing, we propose an end-to-end mesh optimization approach called IMLS-Splatting. Our method leverages the sparsity and flexibility of point clouds to efficiently represent the underlying surface. To achieve this, we introduce a splatting-based differentiable Implicit Moving-Least Squares (IMLS) algorithm that enables the fast conversion of point clouds into SDFs and texture fields, optimizing both mesh reconstruction and rasterization. Additionally, the IMLS representation ensures that the reconstructed SDF and mesh maintain continuity and smoothness without the need for extra regularization. With this efficient pipeline, our method enables the reconstruction of highly detailed meshes in approximately 11 minutes, supporting high-quality rendering and achieving state-of-the-art reconstruction performance. | 2024 | GAMMA: Graspability-Aware Mobile MAnipulation Policy Learning based on Online Grasping Pose FusionabstractMobile manipulation constitutes a fundamental task for robotic assistants and garners significant attention within the robotics community. A critical challenge inherent in mobile manipulation is the effective observation of the target while approaching it for grasping. In this work, we propose a graspability-aware mobile manipulation approach powered by an online grasping pose fusion framework that enables a temporally consistent grasping observation. Specifically, the predicted grasping poses are online organized to eliminate the redundant, outlier grasping poses, which can be encoded as a grasping pose observation state for reinforcement learning. Moreover, on-the-fly fusing the grasping poses enables a direct assessment of graspability, encompassing both the quantity and quality of grasping poses. This assessment can subsequently serve as an observe-to-grasp reward, motivating the agent to prioritize actions that yield detailed observations while approaching the target object for grasping. Through extensive experiments conducted on the Habitat and Isaac Gym simulators, we find that our method attains a good balance between observation and manipulation, yielding high performance under various grasping metrics. Furthermore, we discover that the incorporation of temporal information from grasping poses aids in mitigating the sim-to-real gap, leading to robust performance in challenging real-world experiments. | 2023 | 3D-Aware Object Goal Navigation via Simultaneous Exploration and IdentificationabstractObject goal navigation (ObjectNav) in unseen environments is a fundamental task for Embodied AI. Agents in existing works learn ObjectNav policies based on 2D maps, scene graphs, or image sequences. Considering this task happens in 3D space, a 3D-aware agent can advance its ObjectNav capability via learning from fine-grained spatial information. However, leveraging 3D scene representation can be prohibitively unpractical for policy learning in this floor-level task, due to low sample efficiency and expensive computational cost. In this work, we propose a framework for the challenging 3D-aware ObjectNav based on two straightforward sub-policies. The two sub-polices, namely corner-guided exploration policy and category-aware identification policy, simultaneously perform by utilizing online fused 3D points as observation. Through extensive experiments, we show that this framework can dramatically improve the performance in ObjectNav through learning from 3D scene representation. Our framework achieves the best performance among all modular-based methods on the Matterport3D and Gibson datasets, while requiring (up to 30x) less computational cost for training. The code will be released to benefit the community.11Homepage: https://pku-epic.github.io/3D-Aware-ObjectNav/ Jiazhao Zhang, Liu Dai, Fanpeng Meng, Qingnan Fan, Xuelin Chen, Kai Xu 0004, He Wang 0010 |

| 2022 | Discovering Novel Categories in Sar Images in Open Set ConditionsabstractIn this paper, we deal with the issue of discovering data of novel categories for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images under open-set conditions. The traditional SAR image classification methods are trained under the closed-set setting where all categories in testing data are seen in training data. It does not always meet the requirements of the real SAR imagery interpretation applications. With a labelled SAR image dataset, we propose a multi-stage approach to effectively pick out images belonging to new classes in another unlabelled dataset and then cluster them into correct number of novel categories. To do so, our pipeline is composed of three major steps: (1) train a powerful feature extractor leveraging both the labelled and unlabelled dataset by semi-supervised inference; (2) identify the unknown data by openset detection; (3) cluster these unknown data based on the features generated by the extractor to discover novel categories. The proposed method is validated on a Sentinel-1 SAR image dataset OpenSARUrban [1]. Liu Dai, Weiwei Guo, Zenghui Zhang, Wenxian Yu |
