2026 vMFCoOp: Towards Equilibrium on a Unified Hyperspherical Manifold for Prompting Biomedical VLMs
abstract
Recent advances in context optimization (CoOp) guided by large language model (LLM)–distilled medical semantic priors offer a scalable alternative to manual prompt engineering and full fine-tuning for adapting biomedical CLIP-based vision-language models (VLMs). However, prompt learning in this context is challenged by semantic misalignment between LLMs and CLIP variants due to divergent training corpora and model architectures; it further lacks scalability across continuously evolving families of foundation models. More critically, pairwise multimodal alignment via conventional Euclidean-space optimization lacks the capacity to model unified representations or apply localized geometric constraints, which tends to amplify modality gaps in complex biomedical imaging and destabilize few-shot adaptation. To address these challenges, we propose vMFCoOp, a framework that inversely estimates von Mises–Fisher (vMF) distributions on a shared Hyperspherical Manifold, aligning semantic biases between arbitrary LLMs and CLIP backbones via Unified Semantic Anchors to achieve robust biomedical prompting and superior few-shot classification. Grounded in three complementary constraints, vMFCoOp demonstrates consistent improvements across 14 medical datasets, 12 medical imaging modalities, and 13 anatomical regions, outperforming state-of-the-art methods in accuracy, generalization, and clinical applicability.

2025 PC-BEV: An Efficient Polar-Cartesian BEV Fusion Framework for LiDAR Semantic Segmentation
abstract
Although multiview fusion has demonstrated potential in LiDAR segmentation, its dependence on computationally intensive point-based interactions, arising from the lack of fixed correspondences between views such as range view and Bird's-Eye View (BEV), hinders its practical deployment. This paper challenges the prevailing notion that multiview fusion is essential for achieving high performance. We demonstrate that significant gains can be realized by directly fusing Polar and Cartesian partitioning strategies within the BEV space. Our proposed BEV-only segmentation model leverages the inherent fixed grid correspondences between these partitioning schemes, enabling a fusion process that is orders of magnitude faster (170x speedup) than conventional point-based methods. Furthermore, our approach facilitates dense feature fusion, preserving richer contextual information compared to sparse point-based alternatives. To enhance scene understanding while maintaining inference efficiency, we also introduce a hybrid Transformer-CNN architecture. Extensive evaluation on the SemanticKITTI and nuScenes datasets provides compelling evidence that our method outperforms previous multiview fusion approaches in terms of both performance and inference speed, highlighting the potential of BEV-based fusion for LiDAR segmentation.

2025 ALIVE: Asynchronous Lower Body Pose Estimation with Images, Visual-Inertial Odometry and Electromyography
abstract
Human pose estimation (HPE) is a critical technology for multimedia applications such as virtual reality (VR) and other interactive systems, where efficient, accurate and cost-effective pose estimation is essential. However, high-frequency and precise pose estimation often requires advanced equipment like high-speed cameras or time-of-flight sensors and prohibitive amount of computational resources, which are expensive and hinder widespread adoption. Previous fusion based methods always rely on synchronized signal input which is throttle by low frequency sensors and vulnerable to signal drops. To address this challenge, we propose integrating low-cost electromyography (EMG) and visual-inertial odometry (VIO) data for lower-body HPE using a novel multi-modal neural network. Instead of relying on synchronized sensor inputs, we reformulate the fusion problem as an outdated-signal-guided HPE prediction task, achieving latency as low as 1.6 ms per prediction. We validate our approach on a dataset of 1,000 lower-body pose clips from 10 subjects, specifically curated for this task. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves accurate, high-frequency pose estimation. The implementation is publicly available at https://github.com/k9tming/ALIVE.

2025 Chameleon: Fast-Slow Neuro-Symbolic Lane Topology Extraction
abstract
Lane topology extraction involves detecting lanes and traffic elements and determining their relationships, a key perception task for mapless autonomous driving. This task requires complex reasoning, such as determining whether it is possible to turn left into a specific lane. To address this challenge, we introduce neuro-symbolic methods powered by vision-language foundation models (VLMs). Existing approaches have notable limitations: (1) Dense visual prompting with VLMs can achieve strong performance but is costly in terms of both financial resources and carbon footprint, making it impractical for robotics applications. (2) Neuro-symbolic reasoning methods for 3D scene understanding fail to integrate visual inputs when synthesizing programs, making them ineffective in handling complex corner cases. To this end, we propose a fast-slow neuro-symbolic lane topology extraction algorithm, named Chameleon, which alternates between a fast system that directly reasons over detected instances using synthesized programs and a slow system that utilizes a VLM with a chain-of-thought design to handle corner cases. Chameleon leverages the strengths of both approaches, providing an affordable solution while maintaining high performance. We evaluate the method on the OpenLane-V2 dataset, showing consistent improvements across various baseline detectors. 2025 Reusing Attention for One-stage Lane Topology Understanding
abstract
Understanding lane topology relationships accurately is critical for safe autonomous driving. However, existing two-stage methods suffer from inefficiencies due to error propagations and increased computational overheads. To address these challenges, we propose a one-stage architecture that simultaneously predicts traffic elements, lane centerlines and topology relationship, improving both the accuracy and inference speed of lane topology understanding for autonomous driving. Our key innovation lies in reusing intermediate attention resources within distinct transformer decoders. This approach effectively leverages the inherent relational knowledge within the element detection module to enable the modeling of topology relationships among traffic elements and lanes without requiring additional computationally expensive graph networks. Furthermore, we are the first to demonstrate that knowledge can be distilled from models that utilize standard definition (SD) maps to those operates without using SD maps, enabling superior performance even in the absence of SD maps. Extensive experiments on the OpenLane-V2 dataset show that our approach outperforms baseline methods in both accuracy and efficiency, achieving superior results in lane detection, traffic element identification, and topology reasoning. Our code is available at https://github.com/Yang-Li-2000/one-stage.git.

2025 Delving into Mapping Uncertainty for Mapless Trajectory Prediction
abstract
Recent advances in autonomous driving are moving towards mapless approaches, where High-Definition (HD) maps are generated online directly from sensor data, reducing the need for expensive labeling and maintenance. However, the reliability of these online-generated maps remains uncertain. While incorporating map uncertainty into downstream trajectory prediction tasks has shown potential for performance improvements, current strategies provide limited insights into the specific scenarios where this uncertainty is beneficial. In this work, we first analyze the driving scenarios in which mapping uncertainty has the greatest positive impact on trajectory prediction and identify a critical, previously overlooked factor: the agent’s kinematic state. Building on these insights, we propose a novel Proprioceptive Scenario Gating that adaptively integrates map uncertainty into trajectory prediction based on forecasts of the ego vehicle’s future kinematics. This lightweight, self-supervised approach enhances the synergy between online mapping and trajectory prediction, providing interpretability around where uncertainty is advantageous and outperforming previous integration methods. Additionally, we introduce a Covariance-based Map Uncertainty approach that better aligns with map geometry, further improving trajectory prediction. Extensive ablation studies confirm the effectiveness of our approach, achieving up to 23.6% improvement in mapless trajectory prediction performance over the state-of-the-art method using the real-world nuScenes driving dataset. Our code, data, and models are publicly available at https://github.com/Ethan-Zheng136/Map-Uncertainty-for-Trajectory-Prediction.

2025 Toward Camera Open-Set 3D Object Detection for Autonomous Driving Scenarios
abstract
Conventional camera-based 3D object detectors in autonomous driving are limited to recognizing a predefined set of objects, which poses a safety risk when encountering novel or unseen objects in real-world scenarios. To address this limitation, we present OS-Det3D, a two-stage training framework designed for camera-based open-set 3D object detection. In the first stage, our proposed 3D object discovery network (ODN3D) uses geometric cues from LiDAR point clouds to generate class-agnostic 3D object proposals, each of which are assigned a 3D objectness score. This approach allows the network to discover objects beyond known categories, allowing for the detection of unfamiliar objects. However, due to the absence of class constraints, ODN3D-generated proposals may include noisy data, particularly in cluttered or dynamic scenes. To mitigate this issue, we introduce a joint selection (JS) module in the second stage. The JS module uses both camera bird’s eye view (BEV) feature responses and 3D objectness scores to filter out low-quality proposals, yielding high-quality pseudo ground truth for unknown objects. OS-Det3D significantly enhances the ability of camera 3D detectors to discover and identify unknown objects while also improving the performance on known objects, as demonstrated through extensive experiments on the nuScenes and KITTI datasets.
