2025 Representation Learning Based Predicate Invention on Knowledge Graphs
abstract
The recognition of whether or not a predicate should be invented is an important problem in the domain of predicate invention. Despite its significance, existing research has yet to fully harness the rich data available in knowledge graphs. In this paper, we introduce a novel problem formulation, ReLPI (Representation Learning for Predicate Invention in Knowledge Graphs), marking a pioneering effort in this domain. To address the core issues of ReLPI, we devise a scoring function that informs the learning process. By optimizing embeddings towards this scoring function, we endow them with semantic meaning, crucial for capturing the nuances of predicate presence patterns. Furthermore, we present SEmPI (Semantic Embeddings for Predicate Invention), a framework that leverages predicate (relation) embeddings as a trainable medium. SEmPI uncovers latent patterns governing predicate occurrences in knowledge graphs, enabling the invention of novel predicates grounded in these discovered patterns. This approach represents a significant step forward in leveraging data-driven methods for predicate invention in knowledge graphs. We evaluate the proposed approach on FB15k and DRKG datasets, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of SEmPI in discovering new predicates.

2023 Efficient and Robust KPI Outlier Detection for Large-Scale Datacenters
abstract
To ensure the performance of large-scale datacenters, operators need to monitor up to tens of millions of various-type KPIs, e.g., CPU utilization, memory utilization. For each KPI, it is crucial but challenging to detect outliers that deviate from its historical patterns or the patterns of other KPIs in the same period. In this work, we proposeOutSpot, an unsupervised outlier detection framework that integrates hierarchical agglomerative clustering (HAC) with conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE), which significantly improves computational efficiency and comprehensively learns the above two patterns. Additionally, two simple yet effective techniques, soft threshold and median filter, are applied to precisely determine outlier KPIs. Using two real-world datasets collected from the datacenters owned by a top-tier global short video service provider and a top-tier domestic operator, respectively. It demonstrates thatOutSpotachieves the best F1 score of 0.95 and 0.91, AUC of 0.99 and 0.99 on the two datasets, significantly outperforming seven baseline outlier detection methods.

2023 Coordination and Optimization Control Framework for Vessels Platooning in Inland Waterborne Transportation System
abstract
Vessels sailing in a single platoon could reduce resistance from the perspective of the whole platoon and the individual vessel, and contribute to improving energy benefits. Moreover, transportation energy costs and traffic efficiency are essential indicators for measuring waterborne transportation systems. We attempt to minimize transportation energy costs by coordinating platoon formation using a distributed framework of controllers. A large-scale coordinated vessel platooning program is proposed to minimize transportation energy costs and optimize traffic efficiency while guaranteeing safety. The control framework covers routing, energy consumption-dependent cooperative platooning decision and speed optimization based on graph search algorithm, cluster analysis, optimal control approach and model predictive control. Firstly, a local scheduling strategy combined with the leader vessel selection algorithm is adopted. Furthermore, we used cluster analysis to create a series of mergeable vessel platooning sets. Then, we used the mathematical planning method and a two-step hybrid optimal control approach to calculate the improvement and optimization of each vessel platoon’s path and speed. Finally, the scalability of the scheduling strategy is elucidated. In a simulation of large scale inland waterborne network, savings surpassed 3.5% when six hundreds vessels participated in the system. These simulation results reveal that the scheduling strategy coordinating vessels into vessel platooning, which improves transportation efficiency as well as descends cost, comparing to a fixed origin route in the waterway network.

2022 Efficient KPI Anomaly Detection Through Transfer Learning for Large-Scale Web Services
abstract
Timely anomaly detection of key performance indicators (KPIs),e.g., service response time, error rate, is of utmost importance to Web services. Over the years, many unsupervised deep learning-based anomaly detection approaches have been proposed. To achieve good performance, they require a long period of KPI data for model training, which is not easy to guarantee with frequent service changes. Additionally, the training overhead is too significant for the vast number of KPIs in large-scale Web services. To address the problems, we propose an unsupervised KPI anomaly detection approach, namedAnoTransfer, by combining a novel Variational Auto-Encoder (VAE)-based KPI clustering algorithm with an adaptive transfer learning strategy. Extensive evaluation experiments using real-world data collected from several large-scale Web service providers demonstrate thatAnoTransferreduces the average initialization time by 65.71% and improves the training efficiency by 50.62 times, without significantly degrading anomaly detection accuracy.

2022 protein2vec: Predicting Protein-Protein Interactions Based on LSTM
abstract
The semantic similarity of gene ontology (GO) terms is widely used to predict protein-protein interactions (PPIs). The traditional semantic similarity measures are based mainly on manually crafted features, which may ignore some important hidden information of the gene ontology. Moreover, those methods usually obtain the similarity between proteins from similarity between GO terms by some simple statistical rules, such as MAX and BMA (best-match average), oversimplifying the possible complex relationship between the proteins and the GO terms annotated with them. To overcome the two deficiencies, we propose a new method named protein2vec, which characterizes a protein with a vector based on the GO terms annotated to it and combines the information of both the GO and known PPIs. We firstly try to apply the network embedding algorithm on the GO network to generate feature vectors for each GO term. Then, Long Short-Time Memory (LSTM) encodes the feature vectors of the GO terms annotated with a protein into another vector (called protein vector). Finally, two protein vectors are forwarded into a feedforward neural network to predict the interaction between the two corresponding proteins. The experimental results show that protein2vec outperforms almost all commonly used traditional semantic similarity methods.

2017 Simulative evaluation of applying optimized support vector machines to identify the simplified ship dynamic model
abstract
Model-based simulation is a sufficient and cost-effective approach for studying and analyzing the maneuverability of ships involving the maneuvers prediction. One important foundation for ensuring its implementation is the determination of the ship dynamic model with relatively low complexity and high accuracy. This study aims at contributing to this research point from two aspects: one is the simplification of dynamic model of ships through 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) nonlinear and complex ship dynamic model based on reasonable assumptions; the other one is to identify parameters of the simplified model using support vector machines (SVM) and maneuvering data. The artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) is used to remedy the problem of SVM about selecting optimal parameter values. For the numerical simulation study, a container ship with well-proven dynamic model is applied to generate clean and polluted maneuvering data. Comparison with the first order linear Nomoto model indicates that the simplified steering model can capture more complicated motions and shows better performance. The optimized SVM by ABC is a convenient and effective alternative for identification of ship dynamic models. It is noticeable that the higher level of measurement noise is, the worse influence on identification results is. But in some degree, the filter approach can mitigate the negative influence and in turn improve the identification results.

2013 Ontology Learning from Incomplete Semantic Web Data by BelNet
abstract
Recent years have seen a dramatic growth of semantic web on the data level, but unfortunately not on the schema level, which contains mostly concept hierarchies. The shortage of schemas makes the semantic web data difficult to be used in many semantic web applications, so schemas learning from semantic web data becomes an increasingly pressing issue. In this paper we propose a novel schemas learning approach -BelNet, which combines description logics (DLs) with Bayesian networks. In this way BelNet is capable to understand and capture the semantics of the data on the one hand, and to handle incompleteness during the learning procedure on the other hand. The main contributions of this work are: (i)we introduce the architecture of BelNet, and corresponding lypropose the ontology learning techniques in it, (ii) we compare the experimental results of our approach with the state-of-the-art ontology learning approaches, and provide discussions from different aspects.

2013 Query generation for semantic datasets
abstract
Due to the increasing volume of and interconnections between semantic datasets, it becomes a challenging task for novice users to know what are included in a dataset, how they can make use of them, and particularly, what queries should be asked. In this paper we analyse several types of candidate insightful queries and propose a framework to generate such queries and identify their relations. To verify our approach, we implemented our framework and evaluated its performance with benchmark and real world datasets.
