| 2021 | Jointly Multi-Similarity Loss for Deep Metric LearningabstractDeep metric learning has been widely adopted to construct good representations for images and sentences with pair-based loss functions such as contrastive loss and triplet loss. However, these loss functions restrict the effectiveness of learned embedding and face two critical challenges: 1) high bias on account of a large set of uninformative and redundant pairs; 2) low information exploration due to the lack of processing the relation information among pairs. In this paper, we propose the jointly multi-similarity (JMS) loss to address the above challenges with a novel pair weighting strategy that assigns higher weights to the more informative pairs and discards the less informative ones. Specifically, we integrate the relationship information among pairs into a single framework and optimize the JMS loss by considering various information jointly. Furthermore, we extensively compare the JMS loss with other start-of-the-art approaches by conducting multiple experiments on image retrieval and semantic text similarity tasks. The experimental results show that the JMS loss consistently outperforms competitors. Shitian Shen, Xueying Li 0004, Jun Lang 0001 |

| 2021 | DMBGN: Deep Multi-Behavior Graph Networks for Voucher Redemption Rate PredictionabstractIn E-commerce, vouchers are important marketing tools to enhance users' engagement and boost sales and revenue. The likelihood that a user redeems a voucher is a key factor in voucher distribution decision. User-item Click-Through-Rate (CTR) models are often applied to predict the user-voucher redemption rate. However, the voucher scenario involves more complicated relations among users, items and vouchers. The users' historical behavior in a voucher collection activity reflects users' voucher usage patterns, which is nevertheless overlooked by the CTR-based solutions. In this paper, we propose a Deep Multi-behavior Graph Networks (DMBGN) to shed light on this field for the voucher redemption rate prediction. The complex structural user-voucher-item relationships are captured by a User-Behavior Voucher Graph (UVG). User behavior happening both before and after voucher collection is taken into consideration, and a high-level representation is extracted by Higher-order Graph Neural Networks. On top of a sequence of UVGs, an attention network is built which can help to learn users' long-term voucher redemption preference. Extensive experiments on three large-scale production datasets demonstrate the proposed DMBGN model is effective, with 10% to 16% relative AUC improvement over Deep Neural Networks (DNN), and 2% to 4% AUC improvement over Deep Interest Network (DIN). Source code and a sample dataset are made publicly available to facilitate future research. Fengtong Xiao, Jingyu Zhao 0005, Xiaofeng Yang 0001, Jun Lang 0001 |

| 2020 | Deep Interest with Hierarchical Attention Network for Click-Through Rate PredictionabstractDeep Interest Network (DIN) is a state-of-the-art model which uses attention mechanism to capture user interests from historical behaviors. User interests intuitively follow a hierarchical pattern such that users generally show interests from a higher-level then to a lower-level abstraction. Modelling such interest hierarchy in an attention network can fundamentally improve the representation of user behaviors. We therefore propose an improvement over DIN to model arbitrary interest hierarchy: Deep Interest with Hierarchical Attention Network (DHAN). In this model, a multi-dimensional hierarchical structure is introduced on the first attention layer which attends to individual item, and the subsequent attention layers in the same dimension attend to higher-level hierarchy built on top of the lower corresponding layers. To enable modelling of multiple dimensional hierarchy, an expanding mechanism is introduced to capture one to many hierarchies. This design enables DHAN to attend different importance to different hierarchical abstractions thus can fully capture a user's interests at different dimensions (e.g. category, price or brand). To validate our model, a simplified DHAN is applied to Click-Through Rate (CTR) prediction and our experimental results on three public datasets with two levels of one-dimensional hierarchy only by category. It shows DHAN's superiority with significant AUC uplift from 12% to 21% over DIN. DHAN is also compared with another state-of-the-art model Deep Interest Evolution Network (DIEN), which models temporal interest. The simplified DHAN also gets slight AUC uplift from 1.0% to 1.7% over DIEN. A potential future work can be combination of DHAN and DIEN to model both temporal and hierarchical interests. | 2018 | A Multi-Task Learning Approach for Improving Product Title Compression with User Search Log DataabstractIt is a challenging and practical research problem to obtain effective compression of lengthy product titles for E-commerce. This is particularly important as more and more users browse mobile E-commerce apps and more merchants make the original product titles redundant and lengthy for Search Engine Optimization. Traditional text summarization approaches often require a large amount of preprocessing costs and do not capture the important issue of conversion rate in E-commerce. This paper proposes a novel multi-task learning approach for improving product title compression with user search log data. In particular, a pointer network-based sequence-to-sequence approach is utilized for title compression with an attentive mechanism as an extractive method and an attentive encoder-decoder approach is utilized for generating user search queries. The encoding parameters (i.e., semantic embedding of original titles) are shared among the two tasks and the attention distributions are jointly optimized. An extensive set of experiments with both human annotated data and online deployment demonstrate the advantage of the proposed research for both compression qualities and online business values. | 2017 | Dependency Parsing with Partial Annotations: An Empirical ComparisonabstractThis paper describes and compares two straightforward approaches for dependency parsing with partial annotations (PA). The first approach is based on a forest-based training objective for two CRF parsers, i.e., a biaffine neural network graph-based parser (Biaffine) and a traditional log-linear graph-based parser (LLGPar). The second approach is based on the idea of constrained decoding for three parsers, i.e., a traditional linear graph-based parser (LGPar), a globally normalized neural network transition-based parser (GN3Par) and a traditional linear transition-based parser (LTPar). For the test phase, constrained decoding is also used for completing partial trees. We conduct experiments on Penn Treebank under three different settings for simulating PA, i.e., random, most uncertain, and divergent outputs from the five parsers. The results show that LLGPar is most effective in directly learning from PA, and other parsers can achieve best performance when PAs are completed into full trees by LLGPar. | 2014 | An Iterative Link-based Method for Parallel Web Page MiningabstractIdentifying parallel web pages from bilingual web sites is a crucial step of bilingual resource construction for crosslingual information processing. In this paper, we propose a link-based approach to distinguish parallel web pages from bilingual web sites.Compared with the existing methods, which only employ the internal translation similarity (such as content-based similarity and page structural similarity), we hypothesize that the external translation similarity is an effective feature to identify parallel web pages.Within a bilingual web site, web pages are interconnected by hyperlinks. The basic idea of our method is that the translation similarity of two pages can be inferred from their neighbor pages, which can be adopted as an important source of external similarity. Thus, the translation similarity of page pairs will influence each other. An iterative algorithm is developed to estimate the external translation similarity and the final translation similarity. Both internal and external similarity measures are combined in the iterative algorithm.Experiments on six bilingual websites demonstrate that our method is effective and obtains significant improvement (6.2% F-Score) over the baseline which only utilizes internal translation similarity. | 2010 | Selecting Discrete and Continuous Features Based on Neighborhood Decision Error MinimizationabstractFeature selection plays an important role in pattern recognition and machine learning. Feature evaluation and classification complexity estimation arise as key issues in the construction of selection algorithms. To estimate classification complexity in different feature subspaces, a novel feature evaluation measure, called the neighborhood decision error rate (NDER), is proposed, which is applicable to both categorical and numerical features. We first introduce a neighborhood rough-set model to divide the sample set into decision positive regions and decision boundary regions. Then, the samples that fall within decision boundary regions are further grouped into recognizable and misclassified subsets based on class probabilities that occur in neighborhoods. The percentage of misclassified samples is viewed as the estimate of classification complexity of the corresponding feature subspaces. We present a forward greedy strategy for searching the feature subset, which minimizes the NDER and, correspondingly, minimizes the classification complexity of the selected feature subset. Both theoretical and experimental comparison with other feature selection algorithms shows that the proposed algorithm is effective for discrete and continuous features, as well as their mixture.
