INTENT: Invariance and Discrimination-aware Noise Mitigation for Robust Composed Image RetrievalabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) is a challenging image retrieval paradigm that enables to retrieve target images based on multimodal queries consisting of reference images and modification texts. Although substantial progress has been made in recent years, existing methods assume that all samples are correctly matched. However, in real-world scenarios, due to high triplet annotation costs, CIR datasets inevitably contain annotation errors, resulting in incorrectly matched triplets. To address this issue, the problem of Noisy Triplet Correspondence (NTC) has attracted growing attention. We argue that noise in CIR can be categorized into two types: cross-modal correspondence noise and modality-inherent noise. The former arises from mismatches across modalities, whereas the latter originates from intra-modal background interference or visual factors irrelevant to the coarse-grained modification annotations. However, modality-inherent noise is often overlooked, and research on cross-modal correspondence noise remains nascent. To tackle above issues, we propose the Invariance and discrimiNaTion-awarE Noise neTwork (INTENT), comprising two components: Visual Invariant Composition and Bi-Objective Discriminative Learning, specifically designed to handle the two-aspect noise. The former applies causal intervention on the visual side via Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to generate intervened composed features, enforcing visual invariance and enabling the model to ignore modality-inherent noise during composition. The latter adopts collaborative optimization with both positive and negative samples, and constructs a scalable decision boundary that dynamically adjusts decisions based on the loyalty degree, enabling robust correspondence discrimination. Extensive experiments on two widely used benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority and robustness of INTENT. | 2026 | ReTrack: Evidence-Driven Dual-Stream Directional Anchor Calibration Network for Composed Video RetrievalabstractWith the rapid growth of video data, Composed Video Retrieval (CVR) has emerged as a novel paradigm in video retrieval and is receiving increasing attention from researchers. Unlike unimodal video retrieval methods, the CVR task takes a multi-modal query consisting of a reference video and a piece of modification text as input. The modification text conveys the user's intended alterations to the reference video. Based on this input, the model aims to retrieve the most relevant target video. In the CVR task, there exists a substantial discrepancy in information density between video and text modalities. Traditional composition methods tend to bias the composed feature toward the reference video, which leads to suboptimal retrieval performance. This limitation is significant due to the presence of three core challenges: (1) modal contribution entanglement, (2) explicit optimization of composed features, and (3) retrieval uncertainty. To address these challenges, we propose the evidence-dRivEn dual-sTream diRectionAl anChor calibration networK (ReTrack). ReTrack is the first CVR framework that improves multi-modal query understanding by calibrating directional bias in composed features. It consists of three key modules: Semantic Contribution Disentanglement, Composition Geometry Calibration, and Reliable Evidence-driven Alignment. Specifically, ReTrack estimates the semantic contribution of each modality to calibrate the directional bias of the composed feature. It then uses the calibrated directional anchors to compute bidirectional evidence that drives reliable composed-to-target similarity estimation. Moreover, ReTrack exhibits strong generalization to the Composed Image Retrieval (CIR) task, achieving SOTA performance across three benchmark datasets in both CVR and CIR scenarios. | 2026 | HABIT: Chrono-Synergia Robust Progressive Learning Framework for Composed Image RetrievalabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) is a flexible image retrieval paradigm that enables users to accurately locate the target image through a multimodal query composed of a reference image and modification text. Although this task has demonstrated promising applications in personalized search and recommendation systems, it encounters a severe challenge in practical scenarios known as the Noise Triplet Correspondence (NTC) problem. This issue primarily arises from the high cost and subjectivity involved in annotating triplet data. To address this problem, we identify two central challenges: the precise estimation of composed semantic discrepancy and the insufficient progressive adaptation to modification discrepancy. To tackle these challenges, we propose a cHrono-synergiA roBust progressIve learning framework for composed image reTrieval (HABIT), which consists of two core modules. First, the Mutual Knowledge Estimation Module quantifies sample cleanliness by calculating the Transition Rate of mutual information between the composed feature and the target image, thereby effectively identifying clean samples that align with the intended modification semantics. Second, the Dual-consistency Progressive Learning Module introduces a collaborative mechanism between the historical and current models, simulating human habit formation to retain good habits and calibrate bad habits, ultimately enabling robust learning under the presence of NTC. Extensive experiments conducted on two standard CIR datasets demonstrate that HABIT significantly outperforms most methods under various noise ratios, exhibiting superior robustness and retrieval performance. | 2026 | Decompose and Conquer: Compositional Reasoning for Zero-Shot Temporal Action LocalizationabstractCurrent Zero-Shot Temporal Action Localization (ZSTAL) methods, whether training-based or training-free ones, still predominantly rely on a single, unified query to localize an entire action. This unified representation is fundamentally ill-suited for complex real-world activities, as it fails to capture their internal compositional structure and adapt to dynamic, multi-stage variations across videos. To address this, we regard ZSTAL as a compositional reasoning task and introduce CASCADE, a Context-Aware Staged Action DEcomposition framework. Inspired by the human cognitive process of perceiving context, decomposing events, and reconstructing instances, CASCADE follows a training-free pipeline. It first perceives the video's context by leveraging a Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) to both filter out irrelevant actions and then generate a rich, video-specific caption for each action present in the video. An LLM then decomposes this caption into multiple, temporally ordered stages, which serve as fine-grained queries to guide the MLLM in estimating frame-level confidence scores. Recognizing that this decomposition can fragment a single action, a novel hierarchical merging logic then reconstructs complete instances by intelligently fusing these preliminary temporal segments based on their semantic progression and coherence. Extensive experiments and ablation studies on THUMOS14 and ActivityNet-1.3 show that CASCADE not only sets a new state-of-the-art among training-free methods but, most notably, significantly outperforms all prior training-based approaches on ActivityNet-1.3. | 2026 | D2MoRA: Diversity-Regulated Asymmetric MoE-LoRA Decomposition for Efficient Multi-Task AdaptationabstractLow-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) has emerged as a powerful parameter-efficient fine-tuning method for adapting large language models to downstream tasks. Recent studies have leveraged Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) mechanism to effectively integrate multiple LoRA modules, facilitating efficient parameter adaptation for multi-task scenarios. It has been shown that fostering knowledge sharing across LoRA experts can greatly enhance parameter adaptation efficiency. However, the existing approach for LoRA expert knowledge sharing still faces two key limitations: constrained functional specialization and induced expert homogenization. To address these issues, we propose a novel diversity-regulated asymmetric MoE-LoRA decomposition framework, which achieves flexible knowledge sharing through asymmetric expert decomposition and guarantees expert diversity with a dual orthogonality regularization. Extensive experiments on eight public benchmarks, spanning both multi-task and single-task settings, demonstrate the superiority of our approach over existing methods. | 2026 | TEMA: Anchor the Image, Follow the Text for Multi-Modification Composed Image RetrievalabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) is an important image retrieval paradigm that enables users to retrieve a target image using a multimodal query that consists of a reference image and modification text. Although research on CIR has made significant progress, prevailing setups still rely simple modification texts that typically cover only a limited range of salient changes, which induces two limitations highly relevant to practical applications, namely Insufficient Entity Coverage and Clause-Entity Misalignment. In order to address these issues and bring CIR closer to real-world use, we construct two instruction-rich multi-modification datasets, M-FashionIQ and M-CIRR. In addition, we propose TEMA, the Text-oriented Entity Mapping Architecture, which is the first CIR framework designed for multi-modification while also accommodating simple modifications. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate that TEMA’s superiority in both original and multi-modification scenarios, while maintaining an optimal balance between retrieval accuracy and computational efficiency. | 2026 | Resonating with RoPE: Spectral Quantization for High-Fidelity Key Cache CompressionabstractThe linear growth of KV cache bottlenecks long-context LLMs, yet RoPE-induced oscillations complicate Key cache quantization. To address this issue, we propose SpectrumQuant, a frequency-domain framework that utilizes the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) to convert these oscillations into sparse spectral representations.Specifically, our pipeline integrates dominant frequency extraction, hybrid bit-width allocation, and high-frequency preemphasis to maximize fidelity while minimizing memory footprint. To eliminate computational overhead, we develop fused Triton kernels featuring deferred inverse transformation and on-chip sparse accumulation.Extensive experiments on several benchmarks confirm SpectrumQuant achieves efficient compression with performance and latency comparable to FP16 baselines. | 2026 | IMAGINE: Adaptive Schema-Imagery Enhanced Composition for Composed Video RetrievalabstractComposed Video Retrieval (CVR) is designed to retrieve a target video that matches a reference video modified by a modification text. While existing methods explore cross-modal correspondences, they often assume modified objects appear directly in videos. However, modification texts frequently describe concepts not explicitly presented but implicitly expressed through semantically related visual cues (e.g., “cake” implying “birthday party”). Current approaches typically rely on aligning explicit feature representations within the concrete space, neglecting critical latent associations. To address this, we propose an adaptIve scheMa-ImAGery enhanced composItional NEtwork (IMAGINE). Unlike standard explicit matching, IMAGINE materializes implicit semantics (termed schema imagery) via dynamic multimodal prototypes. These prototypes capture shared latent concepts to adaptively modulate visual features, effectively injecting implicit guidance into the retrieval process. By bridging the gap between explicit visual contents and implicit retrieval intentions, IMAGINE achieves state-of-the-art performance in both CVR and Composed Image Retrieval (CIR) across three widely used benchmarks. | 2026 | RankVR: Low-Rank Structure Perception and Value Recalibration for Robust Composed Image RetrievalabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) constitutes a pivotal paradigm requiring models to perform joint reasoning on reference images and modification texts. However, the prevalence of Noisy Triplet Correspondence (NTC) in large-scale datasets severely constrains model performance. Existing denoising methods either target binary mismatches or rely on scalar-based point-wise estimation, neglecting rich global structural correlations among sample populations and dynamic value variations during training, thereby yielding suboptimal results. This paper identifies two critical unresolved challenges: Global Structural Inconsistency of Semantic Correlations and Hard Sample Discrimination Uncertainty. To address these, we propose RankVR, a framework designed to construct a robust CIR model via global structure consistency and dynamic value perception. Specifically, we introduce the Global Structure Consistency Perception (GSCP) module, which utilizes the Effective Rank of the Correlation Matrix to decouple clean samples from structural noise. By measuring rank difference, GSCP identifies samples disrupting macroscopic semantic symmetry. Furthermore, we develop the Adaptive Semantic Value Calibration (ASVC) module to distinguish high-value hard clean samples. By integrating training potential and reliability, it dynamically quantifies the semantic value of each triplet, ensuring effective utilization of hard samples while suppressing noise characterized by logical conflicts. Extensive experiments on the FashionIQ and CIRR benchmark datasets demonstrate that RankVR significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods, validating its superior robustness in noisy environments. | 2026 | From Interference to Stability: Adversarial Reliability Correction for Video Moment Retrieval with Relevance FeedbackabstractVideo Moment Retrieval (VMR) aims to retrieve target video moments that correspond to natural language queries. Most existing methods rely on a positive-only assumption that the queried moment always exists within the video, which limits their reliability in practical scenarios. Departing from this restrictive setting, we study Video Moment Retrieval with Relevance Feedback (VMR-RF), which requires models to both retrieve relevant moments and reject irrelevant queries. This task remains challenging due to the following issues: 1) Intrinsic Semantic Interference caused by visually similar but irrelevant moments, and 2) Propagative Decision Irreversibility induced by unidirectional relevance prediction. In light of these, we introduce AdversaRial Reliability cOrrection netWork (ARROW) for VMR-RF. ARROW adopts an active discriminative strategy through two synergetic components: a Gradient-induced Semantic Adversary (GSA) that probes model vulnerabilities by actively amplifying semantic interference, and an Adversarial Reliability Predictor (ARP) that quantifies prediction stability under such interference to effectively suppress unreliable decisions. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of ARROW. Hao Liu 0072, Yupeng Hu 0003, Kun Wang 0039, Ruping Cao, Yutao Yao, Zilu Cai

StructAlign: Structured Cross-Modal Alignment for Continual Text-to-Video RetrievalabstractContinual Text-to-Video Retrieval (CTVR) is a challenging multimodal continual learning setting, where models must incrementally learn new semantic categories while maintaining accurate text-video alignment for previously learned ones, thus making it particularly prone to catastrophic forgetting. A key challenge in CTVR is feature drift, which manifests in two forms: intra-modal feature drift caused by continual learning within each modality, and non-cooperative feature drift across modalities that leads to modality misalignment. To mitigate these issues, we propose StructAlign, a structured cross-modal alignment method for CTVR. First, StructAlign introduces a simplex Equiangular Tight Frame (ETF) geometry as a unified geometric prior to mitigate modality misalignment. Building upon this geometric prior, we design a cross-modal ETF alignment loss that aligns text and video features with category-level ETF prototypes, encouraging the learned representations to form an approximate simplex ETF geometry. In addition, to suppress intra-modal feature drift, we design a Cross-modal Relation Preserving loss, which leverages complementary modalities to preserve cross-modal similarity relations, providing stable relational supervision for feature updates. By jointly addressing non-cooperative feature drift across modalities and intra-modal feature drift, StructAlign effectively alleviates catastrophic forgetting in CTVR. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method shows competitive advantages over state-of-the-art continual retrieval approaches. | 2026 | Redundancy Mitigation: Toward Accurate and Efficient Image-Text RetrievalabstractImage-text retrieval (ITR) is a pivotal task in cross-modal research. However, existing methods often suffer from a fundamental yet overlooked challenge: redundancy. This issue manifests as both semantic redundancy within unimodal representations and relationship redundancy in cross-modal alignments. This not only inflates computational costs but also degrades retrieval accuracy by masking salient features and reinforcing spurious correlations. In this work, we are the first to explicitly analyze and address the ITR problem from a redundancy perspective by proposing the iMage-text rEtrieval rEdundancy miTigation (MEET) framework. MEET employs a cascaded, two-stage process to systematically mitigate both forms of redundancy. First, for Semantic Redundancy Mitigation, it repurposes deep hashing and quantization as synergistic tools, producing compact yet highly discriminative representations. Second, for Relationship Redundancy Mitigation, it progressively refines the cross-modal alignment space by filtering misleading negative samples and adaptively reweighting informative pairs. The structural integration of these modules under a unified optimization objective provides a clear and interpretable pathway to retrieval. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that MEET consistently surpasses state-of-the-art methods, validating its effectiveness and generalizability. | 2026 | ERASE: Bypassing Collaborative Detection of AI Counterfeit via Comprehensive Artifacts EliminationabstractThe rapid advancement of AI-Generated Images (AIGI) has amplified concerns about increasingly undetectable deepfakes. Recent adversarial techniques further worsen this problem by enhancing the imperceptibility of synthetic forgeries to both human viewers and automated detection systems. To simulate realistic adversaries and expose detection vulnerabilities, AI-Generated Image Stealth (AIGI-S) methods specifically aim to make synthetic images harder to detect. However, existing AIGI-S approaches often lack universality and transferability across diverse detection models—especially in collaborative detection settings—and tend to prioritize machine deception over human perceptual fidelity, resulting in visible artifacts. Inspired by real-world antique painting forgery, we propose ERASE (comprehensivE counteRfeit ArtifactS Elimination), a stealth-oriented optimization framework designed for multi-detector environments. ERASE comprehensively suppresses generative artifacts and incorporates a perceptual optimization objective to improve deception against both detection algorithms and human examiners. Extensive evaluations across eight distinct generative subsets from the GenImage benchmark and fifteen detection models demonstrate that ERASE delivers substantially improved attack performance—improving single-detector evasion by +10.5% and collaborative detection evasion by +17.9%—while preserving high image quality. | 2026 | COMBINER: Composed Image Retrieval Guided by Attribute-Based Neighbor RelationsabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) represents a challenging retrieval task that targets locating specific images through multimodal inputs. Despite recent progress in CIR techniques, prior approaches often overlook cases where images appear visually alike yet differ in attributes, potentially undermining both multimodal feature fusion and similarity modeling. To mitigate this limitation, we design a unified representation of cross-modal features based on attribute prototypes. Nevertheless, the task is far from straightforward, owing to three core issues: (1) entanglement in attribute-level semantics, (2) inconsistency across modalities, and (3) supervised signal missing. To tackle the above obstacles, we introduce a COMposed image retrieval network guided By attrIbute-based NEighbor Relations (COMBINER). Specifically, we first design an Adaptive Semantic Disentanglement module, which is capable of disentangling attribute features based on multimodal primitive features. Secondly, we propose a Unified Prototype-based Composition module, which can construct cross-modal unified prototypes (CUP) and facilitate multimodal feature composition. Finally, we introduce a Dual Relations Modeling module, which can mine pairwise and neighbor relations based on attribute similarity. Compared to traditional neighbor relations modeling CIR methods, COMBINER represents the first study addressing the phenomenon of visually similar but attribute-unrelated samples. It achieves a more accurate understanding of the semantic relations among samples by employing an attribute prototype-based similarity metric. Comprehensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets confirm the effectiveness of our proposed COMBINER. | 2026 | STABLE: Efficient Hybrid Nearest Neighbor Search via Magnitude-Uniformity and Cardinality-RobustnessabstractHybrid Approximate Nearest Neighbor Search (Hybrid ANNS) is a foundational search technology for large-scale heterogeneous data and has gained significant attention in both academia and industry. However, current approaches overlook the heterogeneity in data distribution, thus ignoring two major challenges: the Compatibility Barrier for Similarity Magnitude Heterogeneity and the Tolerance Bottleneck to Attribute Cardinality. To overcome these issues, we propose the robuSt he Terogeneity-Aware hyBrid retrievaL framEwork, STABLE, designed for accurate, efficient, and robust hybrid ANNS under datasets with various distributions. Specifically, we introduce an enhAnced heterogeneoUs semanTic perceptiOn (AUTO) metric to achieve a joint measurement of feature similarity and attribute consistency, addressing similarity magnitude heterogeneity and improving robustness to datasets with various attribute cardinalities. Thereafter, we construct our Heterogeneous Emanticre Lation graPh (HELP) index based on AUTO to organize heterogeneous semantic relations. Finally, we employ a novel Dynamic Heterogeneity Routing method to ensure an efficient search. Among various supervision paradigms, point-supervised VMR has emerged as a practical solution, leveraging single-frame annotations to significantly reduce annotation costs while maintaining competitive retrieval performance. However, this sparse supervision approach induces cross-modal representation shift. This shift complicates the model’s ability to accurately capture action sequences and associate text with visual content. To tackle this, we propose a novel framework called pseuDo fRame-based tempOral and semaNtic rEfinement (DRONE) with two key modules: (1) Pseudo-Frame Temporal Alignment (PTA), which embeds textual queries as pseudo-frames to enhance temporal coherence, and (2) Curriculum-Guided Semantic Refinement (CSR), which uses a progressive contrastive learning strategy to refine semantic representations from easy to hard cases. Extensive experiments show that DRONE achieves effective retrieval performance while keeping annotation costs low. Kun Wang 0039, Yupeng Hu 0003, Hao Liu 0072, Liqiang Nie

Visual Self-paced Iterative Learning for Unsupervised Temporal Action LocalizationabstractRecently, Temporal Action Localization (TAL) has garnered significant interest in information retrieval community. However, existing supervised/weakly supervised methods are heavily dependent on extensive labeled temporal boundaries and action categories, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Although some unsupervised methods have utilized the “iteratively clustering and localization” paradigm for TAL, they still suffer from two pivotal impediments: (1) unsatisfactory video clustering confidence, and (2) unreliable video pseudolabels for model training. To address these limitations, we present a novel self-paced iterative learning model to enhance clustering and localization training simultaneously, thereby facilitating more effective unsupervised TAL. Concretely, we improve the clustering confidence through exploring the contextual feature-robust visual information. Thereafter, we design two (constant- and variable-speed) incremental instance learning strategies for easy-to-hard model training, thus ensuring the reliability of these video pseudolabels and further improving overall localization performance. Extensive experiments on two public datasets demonstrate the superiority of our model over several state-of-the-art competitors. | 2026 | REFINE: Composed Video Retrieval via Shared and Differential Semantics EnhancementabstractComposed Video Retrieval (CVR) is a novel video retrieval paradigm. Unlike traditional single-modal video retrieval paradigms (e.g., text to video or video to video), CVR employs multi-modal queries (including both a reference video and a natural language modification) to retrieve the target video that best matches the modified reference video. Existing CVR methods primarily rely on generalized knowledge from vision-language pretrained models or utilize caption expansions to enhance video comprehension. However, these approaches overlook the benefits offered by the shareability and variability of videos for multi-modal query understanding. To overcome this limitation, we introduce a novel CVR framework named shaREd and diFferential semantIcs eNhancement nEtwork ( REFINE ). REFINE is the first framework to exploit the shareability and variability of videos to improve multi-modal query comprehension. Specifically, REFINE leverages learnable tokens to achieve enhanced shared feature representation. Moreover, it introduces a carefully designed Differential Block to disentangle differential semantics between frames and employs modification associations to guide multi-modal query feature fusion. Additionally, REFINE has been extended to the Composed Image Retrieval task, making it effectively generalize across existing composed multi-modal retrieval scenarios and outperform existing methods. Extensive qualitative and quantitative evaluations on four benchmark datasets validate the superiority of the proposed REFINE framework. | 2025 | Content-aware Balanced Spectrum Encoding in Masked Modeling for Time Series ClassificationabstractDue to the superior ability of global dependency, transformer and its variants have become the primary choice in Masked Time-series Modeling (MTM) towards time-series classification task. In this paper, we experimentally analyze that existing transformer-based MTM methods encounter with two under-explored issues when dealing with time series data: (1) they encode features by performing long-dependency ensemble averaging, which easily results in rank collapse and feature homogenization as the layer goes deeper; (2) they exhibit distinct priorities in fitting different frequency components contained in the time-series, inevitably leading to spectrum energy imbalance of encoded feature. To tackle these issues, we propose an auxiliary content-aware balanced decoder (CBD) to optimize the encoding quality in the spectrum space within masked modeling scheme. Specifically, the CBD iterates on a series of fundamental blocks, and thanks to two tailored units, each block could progressively refine the masked representation via adjusting the interaction pattern based on local content variations of time-series and learning to recalibrate the energy distribution across different frequency components. Moreover, dual-constraint loss is devised to enhance the mutual optimization of vanilla decoder and our CBD. Extensive experimental results on ten time-series classification datasets show that our method nearly surpasses a bunch of baselines. Meanwhile, a series of explanatory results are showcased to sufficiently demystify the behaviors of our method. Haocong Wang, Yupeng Hu 0003, Yongshun Gong, Xuemeng Song, Weili Guan

ENCODER: Entity Mining and Modification Relation Binding for Composed Image RetrievalabstractThe objective of Composed Image Retrieval (CIR) is to identify a target image that meets the requirement based on a multimodal query (including the reference image and the modification text) provided by the user. Despite the notable success of existing approaches, they fail to adequately address the modification relation between visual entities and modification actions. This limitation is non-trivial due to three challenges: 1) irrelevant factor perturbation, 2) vague semantic boundaries, and 3) implicit modification relations. To address the above challenges, we propose an Entity miNing and modifiCation relatiOn binDing nEtwoRk (ENCODER), which has been designed to mine visual entities and modification actions, and then bind modification relations. Among the various components of the proposed ENCODER, we have initially designed the Latent Factor Filter (LFF) module to filter visual and textual latent factors related to modification semantics based on a threshold gating mechanism. Secondly, we propose Entity-Action Binding (EAB), which comprises modality-shared Learnable Relation Queries (LRQ) that are capable of mining visual entities and modification actions, as well as learning implicit modification relations for entity-action binding. Finally, the Multi-scale Composition module is introduced to achieve multi-scale feature composition, with guidance provided by entity-action binding. | 2025 | CoRe-MMRAG: Cross-Source Knowledge Reconciliation for Multimodal RAGabstractMultimodal Retrieval-Augmented Generation (MMRAG) has been introduced to enhance Multimodal Large Language Models by incorporating externally retrieved multimodal knowledge, but it introduces two challenges: Parametric-Retrieved Knowledge Inconsistency (PRKI), where discrepancies between parametric and retrieved knowledge create uncertainty in determining reliability, and Visual-Textual Knowledge Inconsistency (VTKI), where misalignment between visual and textual sources disrupts entity representation. To address these challenges, we propose Cross-source knowledge Reconciliation for MultiModal RAG (CoRe-MMRAG), a novel end-to-end framework that effectively reconciles inconsistencies across knowledge sources.CoRe-MMRAG follows a four-stage pipeline: it first generates an internal response from parametric knowledge, then selects the most relevant multimodal evidence via joint similarity assessment, generates an external response, and finally integrates both to produce a reliable answer.Additionally, a specialized training paradigm enhances knowledge source discrimination, multimodal integration, and unified answer generation.Experiments on KB-VQA benchmarks show that CoRe-MMRAG achieves substantial improvements over baseline methods, achieving 5.6% and 9.3% performance gains on InfoSeek and Encyclopedic-VQA, respectively. We release code and data at https://github.com/TyangJN/CoRe-MMRAG. | 2025 | Towards Stable and Storage-efficient Dataset Distillation: Matching Convexified TrajectoryabstractThe rapid evolution of deep learning and large language models has led to an exponential growth in the demand for training data, prompting the development of Dataset Distillation methods to address the challenges of managing large datasets. Among these, Matching Training Trajectories (MTT) has been a prominent approach, which replicates the training trajectory of an expert network on real data with a synthetic dataset. However, our investigation found that this method suffers from three significant limitations: 1. Instability of expert trajectory generated by Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD); 2. Low convergence speed of the distillation process; 3. High storage consumption of the expert trajectory. To address these issues, we offer a new perspective on understanding the essence of Dataset Distillation and MTT through a simple transformation of the objective function, and introduce a novel method called Matching Convexified Trajectory (MCT), which aims to provide better guidance for the student trajectory. MCT creates convex combinations of expert trajectories by selecting a few expert models, guiding student networks to converge quickly and stably. This trajectory is not only easier to store, but also enables continuous sampling strategies during the distillation process, ensuring thorough learning and fitting of the entire expert trajectory. The comprehensive experiment of three public datasets verified that MCT is superior to the traditional MTT method. Leon Wenliang Zhong, Haoyu Tang 0002, Qinghai Zheng, Yupeng Hu 0003, Weili Guan

PAIR: Complementarity-guided Disentanglement for Composed Image RetrievalabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) is a novel image retrieval paradigm that aims at searching for the target images via the multimodal query including a reference image and a modification text. Although existing works have made significant progress, they overlook the inter-modal coherence and incoherence relations modeling, hindering the retrieval accuracy of CIR models. This limitation is non-trivial due to the following two challenges: 1) inter-modal incoherence and 2) intra-modal entanglement. To address the above challenges, we propose a comPlementArity-guided dIsentanglement netwoRk (PAIR), which can disentangle the features of multimodal queries from a semantic coherence perspective, thereby facilitating the identification of both complementary coherent and incoherent features. | 2025 | MEDIAN: Adaptive Intermediate-grained Aggregation Network for Composed Image RetrievalabstractThe Composed Image Retrieval (CIR) task aims to retrieve a target image that meets the requirements based on a given multimodal query (includes a reference image and modification text). Most existing works align multimodal semantics at both local and global granularity. However, they have failed to consider the mining of semantic correspondences at the intermediate-grained level, which has resulted in sub-optimal model performance. In this paper, we propose an adaptive interMEDiate-graIned Aggregation Network (MEDIAN). Compared with the conventional CIR models, MEDIAN is capable of generating intermediate-grained feature aggregation supervised signals and constructing graph attention networks to extract intermediate-grained features. Concurrently, MEDIAN also devises cross-modal semantic correspondence aligning guided by the target image, which in turn enables accurate multi-grained feature composition. | 2025 | CurMIM: Curriculum Masked Image ModelingabstractMasked Image Modeling (MIM), following “mask-andreconstruct” scheme, is a promising self-supervised method to learn scalable visual representation. Studies indicate that selecting an effective mask strategy is vital for MIM. However, existing approaches often rely on static pre-defined priors, which limit their ability to adapt mask strategies dynamically for network optimization. In this paper, we focus on the learning process of the network and introduce human-like curriculum into MIM for dynamic representation refinement, and propose an end-to-end framework Curriculum Masked Image Modeling (CurMIM). CurMIM consists of two components: Mask Priority Measurer, which acts as a curriculum learner to determine mask priority values using the network’s intrinsic state information, and Dual Adaptive Selector, which serves as a curriculum scheduler to create effective masks based on these values. With negligible extra parameters, our curriculum-based method consistently establishes noticeable improvements across varying model sizes and benchmarks, showing effectiveness and generalization. | 2025 | Large Receptive Field Network for Time Series Image ClassificationabstractTime Series Classification (TSC) has achieved significant results in improving the efficiency and safety of life and production. This paper aims to enhance the accuracy of TSC by encoding one-dimensional time series into two-dimensional Recurrence Plots (RP) to obtain richer texture information. However, existing RPs face issues such as multi-scale issues, tendency confusion, and information redundancy, which hinder their application in TSC tasks. To address these problems, this paper proposes a Large Receptive Field Network (LRFN). LRFN advocates for extracting global information by enlarging the receptive field to overcome the multi-scale issues of RPs. It further addresses other problems by applying Multi-scale Signed RP (MSRP). The method encodes the time series as MSRP and then constructs multiple Global-Local Convolution (GLC) modules. These modules obtain medium, local, and global receptive fields through the Dilated Residual Module, SelfCalibrated Convolution, and Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling, respectively. By integrating three different qualities and sizes of receptive fields, comprehensive global information is acquired to address the multi-scale problem. Experimental results show that LRFN can further improve the accuracy of TSC tasks. LRFN demonstrated the best comprehensive performance in comparison to 13 baseline methods across 43 different domains in the UCR dataset. It performed optimally on 20 datasets, with an average accuracy of 91.3%. Additionally, receptive field visualization experiments further validate the effectiveness of LRFN. | 2025 | Heterogeneous Model Knowledge Distillation via Dual Alignment for Semantic SegmentationabstractCurrent knowledge distillation methods for semantic segmentation are primarily designed for knowledge transfer within homogeneous networks, and are less effective for heterogeneous networks. The feature information output by heterogeneous networks faces several challenges, including differences in feature scales and varying capabilities to represent local and global contextual information. To address these issues, we propose a novel Heterogeneous Model Knowledge Distillation (HMKD) framework using a dual alignment method to improve distillation performance between CNN-based and Transformer-based semantic segmentation models. Specifically, we introduce the Patch-based Self-attention Alignment Module (PSAM), which computes and aligns patch-level self-attention across distinct feature map spaces, enabling the transfer of local or global contextual information between heterogeneous models. Additionally, the Heterogeneous Scale Alignment Module (HSAM) is designed to ensure consistency across heterogeneous feature scales and enrich the semantic content. | 2025 | OFFSET: Segmentation-based Focus Shift Revision for Composed Image RetrievalabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) represents a novel retrieval paradigm that is capable of expressing users' intricate retrieval requirements flexibly. It enables the user to give a multimodal query, comprising a reference image and a modification text, and subsequently retrieve the target image. Notwithstanding the considerable advances made by prevailing methodologies, CIR remains in its nascent stages due to two limitations: 1) inhomogeneity between dominant and noisy portions in visual data is ignored, leading to query feature degradation, and 2) the priority of textual data in the image modification process is overlooked, which leads to a visual focus bias. To address these two limitations, this work presents a focus mapping-based feature extractor, which consists of two modules: dominant portion segmentation and dual focus mapping. It is designed to identify significant dominant portions in images and guide the extraction of visual and textual data features, thereby reducing the impact of noise interference. Subsequently, we propose a textually guided focus revision module, which can utilize the modification requirements implied in the text to perform adaptive focus revision on the reference image, thereby enhancing the perception of the modification focus on the composed features. The aforementioned modules collectively constitute the segmentatiOn-based Focus shiFt reviSion nETwork (OFFSET), and comprehensive experiments on four benchmark datasets substantiate the superiority of our proposed method. | 2025 | HUD: Hierarchical Uncertainty-Aware Disambiguation Network for Composed Video RetrievalabstractComposed Video Retrieval (CVR) is a challenging video retrieval task that utilizes multi-modal queries, consisting of a reference video and modification text, to retrieve the desired target video. The core of this task lies in understanding the multi-modal composed query and achieving accurate composed feature learning. Within multi-modal queries, the video modality typically carries richer semantic content compared to the textual modality. However, previous works have largely overlooked the disparity in information density between these two modalities. This limitation can lead to two critical issues: 1) modification subject referring ambiguity and 2) limited detailed semantic focus, both of which degrade the performance of CVR models. To address the aforementioned issues, we propose a novel CVR framework, namely the Hierarchical Uncertainty-aware Disambiguation network (HUD). HUD is the first framework that leverages the disparity in information density between video and text to enhance multi-modal query understanding. It comprises three key components: (a) Holistic Pronoun Disambiguation, (b) Atomistic Uncertainty Modeling, and (c) Holistic-to-Atomistic Alignment. By exploiting overlapping semantics through holistic cross-modal interaction and fine-grained semantic alignment via atomistic-level cross-modal interaction, HUD enables effective object disambiguation and enhances the focus on detailed semantics, thereby achieving precise composed feature learning. Moreover, our proposed HUD is also applicable to the Composed Image Retrieval (CIR) task and achieves state-of-the-art performance across three benchmark datasets for both CVR and CIR tasks. | 2025 | DCount: Decoupled Spatial Perception and Attribute Discrimination for Referring Expression CountingabstractReferring Expression Counting (REC) is an emerging task that aims to count specific objects in images based on textual phrases describing their attributes and categories. While current REC baselines inherit architectures from pre-trained open-vocabulary object detectors and demonstrate promising counting and localization capabilities, they overlook critical limitations in the original single-decoder design with shared object queries. This architectural constraint entangles the semantic and localization perception processes, hindering fine-grained understanding of attribute-aware visual features. To address these challenges, we propose DCount, a decoupled counting framework comprising two innovative components: a Decoupled Dual-Decoder (DDD) module and an Attribute Semantic Discriminator (ASD) module. The DDD module separates spatial perception tasks by employing distinct semantic and localization decoders with task-specific object queries, thereby enhancing the capture of discriminative visual features. Building upon the positional and semantic feedback from DDD, the ASD module introduces a two-stage filtering strategy to explicitly mine challenging hard negative attribute samples in the visual domain, while synergistically refining attribute discrimination across both modalities through contrastive learning in the textual domain. | 2025 | Gaming for Boundary: Elastic Localization for Frame-Supervised Video Moment RetrievalabstractVideo moment retrieval aims to determine the temporal boundaries of moments within a video that are most relevant to textual queries. Unlike fully-supervised and weakly-supervised methods, frame-supervised methods use a single annotated frame to model the similarities between the target moment and queries. In light of these challenges, we introduce the Gaming fOr elAstic Localization (GOAL) method for frame-supervised video moment retrieval. | 2025 | Superpixel Segmentation With Edge Guided Local-Global Attention NetworkabstractSuperpixel segmentation aims to automatically group visually similar pixels within an image into compact regions. This approach provides an efficient low-level representation of image data, effectively reducing the complexity of image primitives for subsequent vision tasks. Recent deep convolutional networks have shown their advantages in superpixel segmentation task. However, many existing deep learning methods still struggle to preserve object edges and accurately perceive similar pixels. This limitation can be attributed to their inadequate ability to model edge information and capture effective context within the image. To address these issues, we propose an Edge guided Local-Global Attention Network (ELGANet) for superpixel segmentation. Specifically, we first devise an Edge Enhancement Module (EeEM), which integrates multiple edge features into the superpixel-friendly features. Then, we develop a Local-Global Attention Module (LGAM) to analyze the relationship between pixels and local or global region patches, expecting to obtain effective context information for grouping similar pixels. The edge features and deep global semantic features are subsequently fused to generate the superpixel-friendly features. The final superpixel-friendly features are then mapped into final superpixels. | 2025 | CMIRNet: Cross-Modal Interactive Reasoning Network for Referring Image SegmentationabstractReferring Image Segmentation (RIS) aims to semantically segment the target object (referent) in alignment with the provided natural language query. Existing works still suffer from that the non-referent was segmented mistakenly, which can be attributed to the insufficient comprehension of vision and language. To tackle this problem, we propose a Cross-Modal Interactive Reasoning Network (CMIRNet) to explore semantic information that consistently existed between vision and language. Specifically, we first devise a novel Text-Guided Multi-Modality Joint Encoder (TGMM-JE), where the key expression can be extracted and the important visual features will be encoded under the continuous guidance of language expression. Then, we design a Cross-Graph Interactive Positioning (CGIP) module to locate the key pixels of the referent object in deepest layer. | 2025 | Cross-Model Nested Fusion Network for Salient Object Detection in Optical Remote Sensing ImagesabstractRecently, salient object detection (SOD) in optical remote sensing images, dubbed ORSI-SOD, has attracted increasing research interest. Although deep-based models have achieved impressive performance, several limitations remain: a single image contains multiple objects with varying scales, complex topological structures, and background interference. These unresolved issues render ORSI-SOD a challenging task. To address these challenges, we introduce a distinctive cross-model nested fusion network (CMNFNet), which leverages heterogeneous features to increase the performance of ORSI-SOD. Specifically, the proposed model comprises two heterogeneous encoders, a conventional CNN-based encoder that can model local features, and a specially designed graph convolutional network (GCN)-based encoder with local and global receptive fields that can model local and global features simultaneously. To effectively differentiate between multiple salient objects of different sizes or complex topological structures within an image, we project the image into two different graphs with different receptive fields and conduct message passing through two parallel graph convolutions. Finally, the heterogeneous features extracted from the two encoders are fused in the well-designed attention enhanced cross model nested fusion module (AECMNFM). This module is meticulously crafted to integrate features progressively, allowing the model to adaptively eliminate background interference while simultaneously refining the feature representations. | 2025 | HDNet: A Hybrid Domain Network With Multiscale High-Frequency Information Enhancement for Infrared Small-Target DetectionabstractThe InfraRed Small Target Detection (IRSTD) task involves identifying and separating small targets from complex backgrounds. However, these targets pose significant challenges due to their small, variable sizes and dim appearance with a low signal-to-noise ratio, often obscured by cluttered backgrounds. Standard spatial-domain Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) act as low-pass filters, hindering their ability to detect small, variably sized, low-contrast targets against complex backgrounds. Infrared images also exhibit diverse spectral energy distributions, yet CNNs lack a global spectral view to discern these patterns, making them susceptible to background clutter. To address these shortcomings, we propose a novel Hybrid Domain Network (HDNet), which fuses frequency-domain features with conventional spatial-domain CNN features to markedly enhance target-background contrast and explicitly suppress background interference. Specifically, HDNet comprises two main branches: the spatial domain branch and the frequency domain branch. In the spatial domain, we innovatively introduce a Multi-scale Atrous Contrast convolution (MAC) module, utilizing multiple parallel atrous contrast convolutions with varying kernel sizes to enhance perception of small, variably sized targets. In the frequency domain, we have specifically designed the Dynamic High-Pass Filter (DHPF) module, hierarchically calculating low-frequency signal energy and dynamically removing specific low-frequency information to preserve high-frequency image details. This effectively filters out slowly varying low-frequency backgrounds, highlighting small targets. Comprehensive ablation studies and experimental analysis on three datasets (IRSTD-1K, NUAA-SIRST, NUDT-SIRST) validate HD-Net’s effectiveness and superiority compared to 26 state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. | 2025 | Convolutional Network Integrated with Frequency Adaptive Learning for Multivariate Time Series ClassificationabstractMultivariate time series classification (MTSC) is a significant research topic in the realm of data mining, with broad applications in different industries, including healthcare, finance, meteorology, and traffic. While existing studies have designed many classifiers based on LSTMs, CNNs, and Transformer, the sophisticated architectures raise concerns regarding efficiency in computation. Additionally, most methods concentrate on a single dimension, typically temporal patterns, without fully considering multi-dimensional information such as the independence and interactions across variables that are essential in multivariate settings. To address these challenges, this article introduces FreConvNet, a lightweight convolutional network integrated with frequency adaptive learning. Inheriting the modular design paradigm of Transformer to achieve multi-view modeling of multivariate time series. FreConvNet consists of two key components: the frequency adaptive block (FAB) and the convolutional feed-forward network (ConvFFN). The FAB leverages the Fourier Transform in conjunction with adaptive filters to capture both long-term and short-term dependencies in the temporal dimension. Following that, ConvFFN captures cross-variable and cross-feature interactions by controlling inter-channel information flow through grouped pointwise convolutions, while introducing non-linearity to enhance representational capacity. Extensive experiments conducted on the well-known UEA archive validate that FreConvNet outperforms existing convolution-based, Transformer-based, and hybrid methods in classification performance and offers a computationally efficient solution. | 2025 | Adaptive Traffic Forecasting on Daily Basis: A Spatio-Temporal Context Learning ApproachabstractTraffic forecasting plays a crucial role in establishing an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) by providing essential insights. Existing traffic forecasting relies on the assumption that there is a hidden invariant spatial-temporal pattern in the large-scale dataset. However, the traffic patterns are easily influenced by many unpredictable external factors, such as policy interventions and climate changes. Due to the dynamic nature of these exogenous factors, the traffic network's spatial-temporal patterns are also changed, thus impacting the performance of traffic forecasting models. Thus, there is an urgent need to rethink the traffic forecasting model in a fast-adaptive manner. To solve this challenge, this paper proposes an Adaptive Spatio-Temporal Context Learning framework named ASTCL, which achieves desired forecasting accuracy using daily basis traffic data collected from dozens of sensors. ASTCL constructs adaptive spatio-temporal contexts for target locations in the traffic network and generates dynamic sequence graphs based on semantic similarities. The adaptive contexts aggregate valuable information from available data, while the graphs reveal dynamic trends in traffic properties. Further, ASTCL introduces a joint convolution and attention mechanism to model intricate spatio-temporal relationships from multiple perspectives. Extensive experiments conducted on four real-world datasets demonstrate that ASTCL achieves remarkable fast adaptability and outperforms other state-of-the-art methods by a significant margin. Nevertheless, it is non-trivial to incorporate sentiments for boosting SED performance, due to three main challenges: 1) diverse effects of utterance tokens on sentiments; 2) gap between video-audio sentiment signals and the embedding space of BART; and 3) various relations among utterances, utterance sentiments, and video-audio sentiments. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel sEntiment-enhanceD Graph-based multimodal sarcasm Explanation framework, named EDGE. In particular, we first propose a lexicon-guided utterance sentiment inference module, where a heuristic utterance sentiment refinement strategy is devised. We then develop a module named Joint Cross Attention-based Sentiment Inference (JCA-SI) by extending the multimodal sentiment analysis model JCA to derive the joint sentiment label for each video-audio clip. Thereafter, we devise a context-sentiment graph to comprehensively model the semantic relations among the utterances, utterance sentiments, and video-audio sentiments, to facilitate sarcasm explanation generation. Extensive experiments on the publicly released dataset WITS verify the superiority of our model over cutting-edge methods. | 2024 | Exploiting the Social-Like Prior in Transformer for Visual ReasoningabstractBenefiting from instrumental global dependency modeling of self-attention (SA), transformer-based approaches have become the pivotal choices for numerous downstream visual reasoning tasks, such as visual question answering (VQA) and referring expression comprehension (REC). However, some studies have recently suggested that SA tends to suffer from rank collapse thereby inevitably leads to representation degradation as the transformer layer goes deeper. Inspired by social network theory, we attempt to make an analogy between social behavior and regional information interaction in SA, and harness two crucial notions of structural hole and degree centrality in social network to explore the possible optimization towards SA learning, which naturally deduces two plug-and-play social-like modules. Based on structural hole, the former module allows to make information interaction in SA more structured, which effectively avoids redundant information aggregation and global feature homogenization for better rank remedy, followed by latter module to comprehensively characterize and refine the representation discrimination via considering degree centrality of regions and transitivity of relations. Without bells and whistles, our model outperforms a bunch of baselines by a noticeable margin when considering our social-like prior on five benchmarks in VQA and REC tasks, and a series of explanatory results are showcased to sufficiently reveal the social-like behaviors in SA. | 2024 | Two-Stage Information Bottleneck For Temporal Language GroundingabstractExisting cross-modal fusion methods for temporal language grounding suffer from issues where the generated cross-modal embeddings are affected by noise in their unimodal representations, thus hindering the expression of interactions between language query and the target video segment. Furthermore, the cross-modal representations contain many irrelevant redundancies, which compromises the quality of cross-modal features and thus interferes with accurate moment localization. To address these drawbacks, we propose a novel CrOss-modaL information-constraineD (COLD) model for temporal language grounding, aiming at learning a robust cross-modal embedding representation devoid of irrelevant redundancies and maximizing the interaction between language query and target video moment. Specifically, our model is built upon the principles of the information bottleneck and features two information-constrained modules from different perspectives: 1) the Cross-modal Highlight Information Bottleneck module is designed to maximize the mutual information between language query and target video moment; 2) the Fusion Information Bottleneck module is introduced to constrain the correlations between the cross-modal representations and the localization labels. Comprehensive experimental results on two public benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model. | 2024 | Revisiting Unsupervised Temporal Action Localization: The Primacy of High-Quality Actionness and PseudolabelsabstractRecently, temporal action localization (TAL) methods, especially the weakly-supervised and unsupervised ones, have become a hot research topic. Existing unsupervised methods follow an iterative ''clustering and training'' strategy with diverse model designs during training stage, while they often overlook maintaining consistency between these stages, which is crucial: more accurate clustering results can reduce the noises of pseudolabels and thus enhance model training, while more robust training can in turn enrich clustering feature representation. We identify two critical challenges in unsupervised scenarios: 1. What features should the model generate for clustering? 2. Which pseudolabeled instances from clustering should be chosen for model training? After extensive explorations, we proposed a novel yet simple framework called Consistency-Oriented Progressive high actionness Learning to address these issues. For feature generation, our framework adopts a High Actionness snippet Selection (HAS) module to generate more discriminative global video features for clustering from the enhanced actionness features obtained from a designed Inner-Outer Consistency Network (IOCNet). For pseudolabel selection, we introduces a Progressive Learning With Representative Instances (PLRI) strategy to identify the most reliable and informative instances within each cluster for model training. These three modules, HAS, IOCNet, and PLRI, synergistically improve consistency in model training and clustering performance. Extensive experiments on THUMOS'14 and ActivityNet v1.2 datasets under both unsupervised and weakly-supervised settings demonstrate that our framework achieves the state-of-the-art results. | 2024 | Explicit Granularity and Implicit Scale Correspondence Learning for Point-Supervised Video Moment LocalizationabstractVideo moment localization (VML) aims to identify the temporal boundary semantically matching the given query. Point-supervised VML balances localization accuracy and annotation cost but is still immature due to granularity alignment and scale perception issues. To this end, we propose a Semantic Granularity and Scale Correspondence Integration (SG-SCI) framework aimed at leveraging limited single-frame annotation for correspondence learning. It explicitly models semantic relations of different feature granularities and adaptively mines the implicit semantic scale, thereby enhancing feature representations of varying granularities and scales. SG-SCI uses granularity correspondence alignment to align semantics via latent prior knowledge and a scale correspondence learning to identify and address semantic scale differences. | 2024 | Fine-grained Textual Inversion Network for Zero-Shot Composed Image RetrievalabstractComposed Image Retrieval (CIR) allows users to search target images with a multimodal query, comprising a reference image and a modification text that describes the user's modification demand over the reference image. Nevertheless, due to the expensive labor cost of training data annotation, recent researchers have shifted to the challenging task of zero-shot CIR (ZS-CIR), which targets fulfilling CIR without annotated triplets. The pioneer ZS-CIR studies focus on converting the CIR task into a standard text-to-image retrieval task by pre-training a textual inversion network that can map a given image into a single pseudo-word token. Despite their significant progress, their coarse-grained textual inversion may be insufficient to capture the full content of the image accurately. To overcome this issue, in this work, we propose a novel Fine-grained Textual Inversion Network for ZS-CIR, named FTI4CIR. In particular, FTI4CIR comprises two main components: fine-grained pseudo-word token mapping and tri-wise caption-based semantic regularization. The former maps the image into a subject-oriented pseudo-word token and several attribute-oriented pseudo-word tokens to comprehensively express the image in the textual form, while the latter works on jointly aligning the fine-grained pseudo-word tokens to the real-word token embedding space based on a BLIP-generated image caption template. | 2024 | Heterogeneous Feature Collaboration Network for Salient Object Detection in Optical Remote Sensing ImagesabstractIn recent years, the task of salient object detection in optical remote sensing images (RSI-SOD) has gained increasing interest. Despite some advancement in current methods, challenges such as the irregular topology of salient objects and cluttered backgrounds in optical RSI remain. To tackle these issues, we propose a novel heterogeneous feature collaboration network (HFCNet). Specifically, we design a new hybrid heterogeneous encoder that combines CNN and transformer to extract a set of heterogeneous features, famous in modeling local and global information, respectively. Subsequently, the adaptive global-local integration (AGLI) module is devised to integrate these complementary heterogeneous features through our feature alignment methods at global and local levels, so the global irregular topology structure and local details can be well-modeled. Furthermore, the proposed saliency-guided attention enhanced decoder (SGAED) leverages deep salient cues to guide the shallow decoders to pay more attention to important areas and suppress irrelevant areas, reducing the interference of cluttered backgrounds. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets have confirmed the significant superiority of our method compared with 18 state-of-the-art methods. | 2024 | Semantic Collaborative Learning for Cross-Modal Moment LocalizationabstractLocalizing a desired moment within an untrimmed video via a given natural language query, i.e., cross-modal moment localization, has attracted widespread research attention recently. However, it is a challenging task because it requires not only accurately understanding intra-modal semantic information, but also explicitly capturing inter-modal semantic correlations (consistency and complementarity). Existing efforts mainly focus on intra-modal semantic understanding and inter-modal semantic alignment, while ignoring necessary semantic supplement. Consequently, we present a cross-modal semantic perception network for more effective intra-modal semantic understanding and inter-modal semantic collaboration. Concretely, we design a dual-path representation network for intra-modal semantic modeling. Meanwhile, we develop a semantic collaborative network to achieve multi-granularity semantic alignment and hierarchical semantic supplement. Thereby, effective moment localization can be achieved based on sufficient semantic collaborative learning. | 2024 | Breaking Through the Noisy Correspondence: A Robust Model for Image-Text MatchingabstractUnleashing the power of image-text matching in real-world applications is hampered by noisy correspondence. Manually curating high-quality datasets is expensive and time-consuming, and datasets generated using diffusion models are not adequately well-aligned. The most promising way is to collect image-text pairs from the Internet, but it will inevitably introduce noisy correspondence. To reduce the negative impact of noisy correspondence, we propose a novel model that first transforms the noisy correspondence filtering problem into a similarity distribution modeling problem by exploiting the powerful capabilities of pre-trained models. Specifically, we use the Gaussian Mixture model to model the similarity obtained by CLIP as clean distribution and noisy distribution, to filter out most of the noisy correspondence in the dataset. Afterward, we used relatively clean data to fine-tune the model. To further reduce the negative impact of unfiltered noisy correspondence, i.e., a minimal part where two distributions intersect during the fine-tuning process, we propose a distribution-sensitive dynamic margin ranking loss, further increasing the distance between the two distributions. Through continuous iteration, the noisy correspondence gradually decreases and the model performance gradually improves. Our extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our model even under high noise rates. Meng Liu 0006, Xiaoxuan Mu, Xuemeng Song, Yupeng Hu 0003, Liqiang Nie

Adaptive Shapelet Selection for Time Series ClassificationabstractRecently, time series classification has attracted significant interest. One of the most promising recent approaches is the shapelet transform, which offers two main advantages over traditional approaches: optimization of the shapelet selection process and the flexible integration of different classifiers. However, the high time complexity of identifying shapelets hinders its application in real-time data processing. To overcome this drawback, we propose an adaptive shapelet selection algorithm (ASS). In our method, we first identify Import Data Points (IDPs) for every time series and select the subsequences between two different IDPs as shapelet candidates. We then adaptively select the k best shapelets using ASS. Our experimental results demonstrate that ASS outperforms all other relevant classification methods. | 2023 | Unlocking the Power of Multimodal Learning for Emotion Recognition in ConversationabstractEmotion recognition in conversation aims to identify the emotions underlying each utterance, and it has great potential in various domains. Human perception of emotions relies on multiple modalities, such as language, vocal tonality, and facial expressions. While many studies have incorporated multimodal information to enhance emotion recognition, the performance of multimodal models often plateaus when additional modalities are added. We demonstrate through experiments that the main reason for this plateau is an imbalanced assignment of gradients across modalities. To address this issue, we propose fine-grained adaptive gradient modulation, a plug-in approach to rebalance the gradients of modalities. Experimental results show that our method improves the performance of all baseline models and outperforms existing plug-in methods. | 2023 | Deep Temporal State Perception Toward Artificial Cyber-Physical SystemsabstractCyber–physical systems (CPS), as the cornerstone of smart city, has been attracting great interest from academia and industry. It aims to monitor/control physical components via communication and computation while ensuring effectiveness, intelligence, and security. The related research has pointed that the state perception on physical device is the prerequisite for boosting overall CPS performance. Toward this end, we present an effective deep temporal perception network to achieve classification-based state detection. Namely, we first design a multifeature encoding network for multiview time-series representation. Concretely, on the one hand, we utilize two piecewise aggregate representation strategies to obtain the key temporal trends; on the other hand, we adopt a temporal symbolic representation strategy to capture the necessary contextual semantic correlations. Thereafter, we develop a comprehensive representation enhancement module to improve feature comprehension capability and thus boosting the overall performance and interpretability. | 2023 | Adaptive Edge-Aware Semantic Interaction Network for Salient Object Detection in Optical Remote Sensing ImagesabstractIn recent years, the task of salient object detection in optical remote sensing images (RSI-SOD) has received extensive attention. Benefiting from the development of deep learning, much progress has been made in RSI-SOD field. However, existing methods still face challenges in addressing various issues present in optical RSI, including uncertain numbers of salient objects, cluttered backgrounds, and interference from shadows. To address these challenges, we propose a novel approach, Adaptive Edge-aware Semantic Interaction Network (AESINet) for efficient salient object detection. Specifically, to improve the extraction of complex edge information, we design a Local Detail Aggregation Module (LDAM). This module can adaptively enhance the edge information of salient objects by leveraging our proposed difference perception mechanism. Notably, our difference perception mechanism is a novel edge enhancement method without the supervision of edge groundtruth. Additionally, to accurately locate salient objects of varying numbers and scales, we design a Multi-scale Feature Enhancement Module (MFEM), which effectively captures and utilizes multi-scale information. Moreover, we design the Deep Semantic Interaction Module (DSIM) to identify salient objects amidst cluttered backgrounds and effectively mitigate the interference of shadows. We conduct extensive experiments on three well-established optical RSI datasets and the results demonstrate that our proposed model outperforms 14 state-of-the-art methods. | 2021 | Focal and Composed Vision-semantic Modeling for Visual Question AnsweringabstractVisual Question Answering (VQA) is a vital yet challenging task in the field of multimedia comprehension. In order to correctly answer questions about an image, a VQA model requires to sufficiently understand the visual scene, especially the vision-semantic reasonings between the two modalities. Traditional relation-based methods allow to encode the pairwise relations of objects to boost the VQA model performance. However, this simple strategy is deficient to exploit the abundant concepts expressed by the composition of diverse image objects, leading to sub-optimal performance. In this paper, we propose a focal and composed vision-semantic modeling method, which is a trainable end-to-end model, for better vision-semantic redundancy removal and compositionality modeling. Concretely, we first introduce the LENA cell, a plug-and-play reasoning module, which removes redundant semantic by a focal mechanism in the first step, followed by the vision-semantic compositionality modeling for better visual reasoning. We then incorporate the cell into a full LENA network, which progressively refines multimodal composed representations, and can be leveraged to infer the high-order vision-semantic in a multi-step learning way. | 2021 | Video Moment Localization via Deep Cross-Modal HashingabstractDue to the continuous booming of surveillance and Web videos, video moment localization, as an important branch of video content analysis, has attracted wide attention from both industry and academia in recent years. It is, however, a non-trivial task due to the following challenges: temporal context modeling, intelligent moment candidate generation, as well as the necessary efficiency and scalability in practice. To address these impediments, we present a deep end-to-end cross-modal hashing network. To be specific, we first design a video encoder relying on a bidirectional temporal convolutional network to simultaneously generate moment candidates and learn their representations. Considering that the video encoder characterizes temporal contextual structures at multiple scales of time windows, we can thus obtain enhanced moment representations. As a counterpart, we design an independent query encoder towards user intention understanding. Thereafter, a cross-model hashing module is developed to project these two heterogeneous representations into a shared isomorphic Hamming space for compact hash code learning. After that, we can effectively estimate the relevance score of each "moment-query" pair via the Hamming distance. Besides effectiveness, our model is far more efficient and scalable since the hash codes of videos can be learned offline. | 2021 | Coarse-to-Fine Semantic Alignment for Cross-Modal Moment LocalizationabstractVideo moment localization, as an important branch of video content analysis, has attracted extensive attention in recent years. However, it is still in its infancy due to the following challenges: cross-modal semantic alignment and localization efficiency. To address these impediments, we present a cross-modal semantic alignment network. To be specific, we first design a video encoder to generate moment candidates, learn their representations, as well as model their semantic relevance. Meanwhile, we design a query encoder for diverse query intention understanding. Thereafter, we introduce a multi-granularity interaction module to deeply explore the semantic correlation between multi-modalities. Thereby, we can effectively complete target moment localization via sufficient cross-modal semantic understanding. Moreover, we introduce a semantic pruning strategy to reduce cross-modal retrieval overhead, improving localization efficiency. | 2016 | Efficient Snapshot KNN Join Processing for Large Data Using MapReduceabstractThe kNN join problem, denoted by R ×KNNS, is to find the k nearest neighbors from a given dataset S for each point in the query set R. It is an operation required by many big data applications. As large volume of data are continuously generated in more and more real-life cases, we address the problem of monitoring kNN join results on data streams. Specifically, we are concerned with answering kNN join periodically at each snapshot which is called snapshot kNN join. Existing kNN join solutions mainly solve the problem on static datasets, or on a single centralized machine, which are difficult to scale to large data on data streams. In this paper, we propose to incrementally calculate the kNN join results of time tifrom the results of snapshot ti-1. Typically, for the data continuously generated on the data stream, we can get Si= Si-1+ ΔSifor the valid datasets of adjacent snapshots, where ΔSidenotes the updated points between time ti-1and ti. Our basic idea is to first find the queries in R whose kNN results can be affected by the updated points in ΔSi, and then update the kNN results of these small part of queries respectively. In this way, we can avoid calculating the kNN join results on the whole dataset Siin time ti. We propose an implementation of searching for affected query points in MapReduce to scale to large volume of data. In brief, the mappers partition the datasets into groups, and the reducers search for affected queries separately on each group of points. Furthermore, we present the enhanced strategies of data partitioning and grouping to reduce the shuffling cost and computational cost. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that proposed methods are efficient, robust, and scalable. Yupeng Hu 0003, Cun Ji, Yang Xu 0025
