2005 A simple efficient procedure for generating bivariate Nakagami-m fading samples
abstract
The Nakagami-m distribution is an important fading model in wireless communications. The simulation for bi-variate Nakagami-m samples is useful when study dual branch diversity systems in Nakagami-m fading channels. However, no simple and efficient method for simulating Nakagami-m fading channels is available in the literature. This letter proposes a simple efficient method for generating bivariate Nakagami-m fading envelope samples for arbitrary values of m > 0.8.

2005 Effects of channel estimation errors on absolute threshold-generalized selection diversity combining
abstract
Absolute threshold generalized selection combining (AT-GSC) is a combining scheme which intends to reduce the power consumption and hence, extend the battery life at the terminal end. An AT-GSC scheme requires channel estimation for its operation. Previous works studying AT-GSC have exclusively examined AT-GSC systems under the assumption of perfect channel estimation. Maximal-ratio-combining is a special case when the threshold is set very low and all the branches are chosen, which consumes maximum power. We derive the average bit error rate (BER) and the cumulative distribution function (cdf) of the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for AT-GSC when there is channel estimation error. The effects of channel estimation errors on the BER and combiner output SNR are studied.

2005 Closed-form BER results for MRC diversity with channel estimation errors in Ricean fading channels
abstract
Closed-form expressions for computing the average bit error rate (BER) for a class of modulation schemes in Ricean flat fading channels with maximal-ratio combining diversity and channel estimation errors are derived. The results are valid for a general multichannel model that includes Ricean and Rayleigh fading channels. The results are applicable to channel estimators that are jointly Gaussian with the channel gain. The BER performance of pilot symbol-assisted modulation is studied. The effects of estimation error on the diversity system are examined as well as the influences of varying the Ricean factor K and changing the number of diversity branches L.

2004 Bit error rate analysis of hybrid selection/maximal-ratio diversity combining with channel estimation error
abstract
Hybrid selection/maximal-ratio combining (H-S/MRC) diversity is a very important diversity combining technique in wideband systems. It can be employed to reduce the complexity of RAKE receivers, which are needed to achieve acceptable performance on frequency selective fading channels. A method for calculating the bit error rate (BER) of H-S/MRC diversity systems with channel estimation error is introduced. It is applied to derive BER expressions for binary shift keying (BPSK), quadrature shift keying (QPSK) and M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM). Results for selection combining (SC) and MRC are also obtained as two special cases. The effects of the estimation errors on the system performances are studied in detail. The sensitivities of different modulation schemes to channel estimation errors are examined.

2004 Optimization of PSAM for diversity 16-QAM
abstract
We consider pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) implemented with a sinc interpolator. The sensitivity of the error rate performance to different window functions applied to the sinc interpolator is investigated. The BER's for diversity M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) with different window functions applied to the sinc interpolator are compared. The Kaiser window is found superior to the other windows considered. A thorough discussion of the dependency of the BER performance on the symbol location is also given.

2004 Exact error-rate analysis of diversity 16-QAM with channel estimation error
abstract
The bit-error rate (BER) performance of multilevel quadrature amplitude modulation with pilot-symbol-assisted modulation channel estimation in static and Rayleigh fading channels is derived, both for single branch reception and maximal ratio combining diversity receiver systems. The effects of noise and estimator decorrelation on the received BER are examined. The high sensitivity of diversity systems to channel estimation error is investigated and quantified. The influence of the pilot-symbol interpolation filter windowing is also considered.
