1997 Antiwhistle codes
abstract
Besides timing recovery and automatic gain control, data receivers often perform adaptive slope or bandwidth control. This note presents a set of maximum run-length constraints that facilitates the joint accomplishment of these three tasks. Simple polarity-bit codes that introduce these constraints are described. The study is of particular interest in digital magnetic recording.

1997 Dual decision feedback equalizer
abstract
The detector of Dahlman and Gudmundson (1988) ranks among the simplest known extensions of the decision feedback equalizer (DFE). The article develops a simplification of this detector, and evaluates its performance vis-a-vis other near maximum likelihood detectors. Comparable performances are observed at much lower complexity levels.
