2026 Low-Complexity Appointed-Accuracy Control of Full-State Constrained Nonlinear Systems With Input Saturation
abstract
In this paper, a low-complexity appointed-accuracy tracking controller is developed for nonlinear systems with full-state constraints and input saturation. A new smooth function incorporating the Mean Value Theorem is used to approximate the saturated input. By introducing a prescribed performance function and a transformed term, a constrained tracking error is created to achieve an appointed accuracy within a given time while maintaining full-state constraints. The transformed system is stabilized through a low-complexity backstepping controller, which incorporates a compensation term for estimation errors associated with the input saturation. Through Lyapunov stability analysis, it is demonstrated that the proposed controller ensures the boundedness of the closed-loop system and satisfies both the tracking error bounds and state constraints. The effectiveness of our approach is validated via numerical simulations, including two case studies on a DC motor system.

2026 AMONet: Alternating Modality Optimization Network for Multimodal Rumor Detection
abstract
The rapid development of social media provides diversified channels for the dissemination of rumors. How to accurately identify rumor information under different modalities becomes a significant challenge in the current field of information security. Limited by the heterogeneity of multimodal data itself, existing multimodal rumor detection methods often face the issue of modality laziness, that is, the model converges prematurely during the training process, resulting in some modality encoders failing to fully learn effective representations, ultimately weakening the model’s detection performance. To alleviate the problem of modality laziness, we propose an innovative alternating modality optimization network (AMONet), whose core innovations are embodied in three aspects: (1) An alternating modality optimization (AMO) parameter updating mechanism is proposed, to balance optimization opportunities for each modality encoder by cyclically training the branch networks of each modality; (2) To tackle the knowledge forgetting problem caused by alternating optimization, a fisher information-based regularization (FIR) method is introduced, which can impose elastic constraints on specific parameters to preserve crucial knowledge; (3) An innovative quantitative evaluation metric, modality inconsistency variance (MIV), is proposed to characterize modality laziness. Extensive experiments demonstrate that AMONet outperforms previous benchmarks.

2026 Barrier Function-Based Command Filtering in the Presence of Input Saturation: A Composite Auxiliary Signal Approach
abstract
This paper presents an adaptive command filtered control scheme using composite auxiliary signals for a class of uncertain strict-feedback nonlinear systems subject to input saturation. To explicitly constrain the filtered errors, barrier functions are incorporated into the command filtering loop, effectively mitigating their adverse impact on system stability and alleviating the “explosion of complexity" phenomenon inherent in backstepping designs. Furthermore, by constructing a composite auxiliary system, the proposed method achieves a unified compensation mechanism for both bounded filtered errors and input saturation effects. Compared with existing approaches, the proposed strategy simultaneously addresses filtered error and input saturation issues without relying on smooth saturation approximations, thereby avoiding approximation-induced errors and enhancing overall control performance. The effectiveness and practical applicability of the method are validated through numerical simulations and real-time experiments conducted on a Franka Emika Panda robotic arm.

2025 Leader-Following Formation of Heterogeneous Multi-Agent Systems With Time-Varying Topology: A Virtual Neighbor Framework
abstract
This paper presents a set-membership control approach for formation tracking in heterogeneous leader-following multi-agent systems. In order to improve the adaptability of the control strategy to changes in topology, a virtual neighbor is constructed for each follower, which represents the combined influence of all its neighbors. With the help of virtual neighbors, the interaction relationships between agents can be hidden, thereby mitigating the impact of topology changes on controller design. Then, a novel time-varying topology with adaptive adjacent weights is proposed, such that the coupling strength between agents can be actively adjusted to improve the formation performance. Subsequently, the set-membership technique is utilized to establish the optimization problems to ensure that the one-step forward tracking errors can be constrained within the ellipsoid sets. Further, an online algorithm is developed to continuously obtain the optimal controllers by solving the optimization problems recursively. Finally, the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed approach are demonstrated via a numerical simulation and its application on a robotic platform with UAVs and UGVs.

2025 A Constructive Approach for Neural Network Approximation Sets in Adaptive Control of Strict-Feedback Systems
abstract
Determining the neural network (NN) approximation sets for adaptive control of strict-feedback uncertain systems has posed a persistent challenge. This article proposes a novel and constructive solution that incorporates signal substitution technique, barrier functions (BFs), and backstepping approach. By applying the signal substitution technique, all system states are transformed into state error variables, facilitating the approximation of unknown system functions through NNs. The use of BFs subsequently allows for the restriction of state errors, enabling the calculation of exact bounds for the NN weight estimators. This process reveals the determination of the approximation sets of NN in advance. Illustrative examples are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

2023 Security Analysis for Dynamic State Estimation of Power Systems With Measurement Delays
abstract
This article is centered on the cybersecurity research of dynamic state estimation for power systems with measurement delays. Relying on mixed measurements from phasor measurement units (PMUs) and remote terminal units (RTUs), a delayed measurement model is constructed. A modified state estimator based on the Kalman filter (KF) is designed, which can obtain the optimal estimated states under measurement delays. Moreover, the measurement data transmitted from the sensor to the estimator are vulnerable to cyberattacks. Especially, false data-injection (FDI) attacks are frequently encountered in the power system state estimation (PSSE) process. In the case of measurement delays, an FDI attack strategy is designed to interfere with the state estimator and evade detection by the chi-square detector. By utilizing the attacked estimated information and the uncorrupted measurement information, two measurement residual vectors are designed. According to these two residual vectors, a chi-square-based attack detection method is proposed, which has the ability to detect the attack without being affected by the delayed measurements. The proposed KF algorithm and attack detection method are implemented on an IEEE 14-bus system and they are confirmed to be effective and feasible.

2023 Anti-Synchronization of Discrete-Time Fuzzy Memristive Neural Networks via Impulse Sampled-Data Communication
abstract
This work is concerned with the anti-synchronization (A-S) of drive-response (D-R) memristive neural networks (MNNs) based on fuzzy rules. A novel impulsive sampled-data communication mechanism is proposed by considering information security of the MNNs, in which the random response delay of sensors caused by the impulse signal is also investigated. As the state of MNNs cannot be outputted accurately and transmitted persistently, the state observers of the D-R MNNs are established, which is beneficial to design the A-S controller. By analyzing the stability of the augmented error system (AES) based on the fuzzy-based Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (FLKF), sufficient conditions of the A-S between D-R MNNs are derived. An illustrative example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed A-S strategies.

2023 Event-Triggered Control for Markov Jump Systems Subject to Mismatched Modes and Strict Dissipativity
abstract
In order to save network resources of discrete-time Markov jump systems, an event-triggered control framework is employed in this article. The threshold parameter in the event-triggered mechanism is designed as a diagonal matrix in which all elements can be adjusted according to system performance requirements. The hidden Markov model is introduced to characterize the asynchronization between the controller and controlled system. The effect of randomly occurring gain fluctuations is taken into account during the controller design. For the purpose of guaranteeing that the closed-loop system is stochastically stable and satisfies the strictly$(\mathcal {D}_{1},\mathcal {D}_{2},\mathcal {D}_{3})-\gamma -$dissipative performance, sufficient conditions are constructed by employing the Lyapunov function and stochastic analysis. After linearization, the proposed controller gains are obtained by solving the linear matrix inequalities. Ultimately, a practical example of the dc motor device is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed new design technique.

2023 Robust Switched Velocity-Dependent Path-Following Control for Autonomous Ground Vehicles
abstract
This paper proposes a switched velocity-dependent path-following control method for autonomous ground vehicles under uncertain cornering stiffness and time-varying velocity. A switched polytopic linear-parameter-varying (LPV) model combining path-following and vehicle lateral dynamics is established, where the velocity-dependent parameters are divided into several switched regions. In each region, a trapezoidal polytope is adopted to describe the varying parameters. A global$H_{\infty }$performance analysis is carried out for the switched polytopic LPV vehicle system based on the average dwell time approach with multiple Lyapunov functions. Based on the analysis, a switched velocity-dependent controller is synthesized to achieve a desired path-following performance by regulating the steering angle of the front wheels. The proposed switched path-following control specializes in handling large range of varying velocity, and achieves superior path-following performance compared with the conventional gain-scheduling control. Simulations are carried out for typical road maneuvers to illustrate the advantages of the proposed method. The results are also applicable to other LPV analysis and synthesis conditions involving time-varying parameters of large varying ranges.

2023 Adaptive Multigradient Recursive Reinforcement Learning Event-Triggered Tracking Control for Multiagent Systems
abstract
This article proposes a fault-tolerant adaptive multigradient recursive reinforcement learning (RL) event-triggered tracking control scheme for strict-feedback discrete-time multiagent systems. The multigradient recursive RL algorithm is used to avoid the local optimal problem that may exist in the gradient descent scheme. Different from the existing event-triggered control results, a new lemma about the relative threshold event-triggered control strategy is proposed to handle the compensation error, which can improve the utilization of communication resources and weaken the negative impact on tracking accuracy and closed-loop system stability. To overcome the difficulty caused by sensor fault, a distributed control method is introduced by adopting the adaptive compensation technique, which can effectively decrease the number of online estimation parameters. Furthermore, by using the multigradient recursive RL algorithm with less learning parameters, the online estimation time can be effectively reduced. The stability of closed-loop multiagent systems is proved by using the Lyapunov stability theorem, and it is verified that all signals are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, two simulation examples are given to show the availability of the presented control scheme.

2023 Cluster Synchronization Control for Discrete-Time Complex Dynamical Networks: When Data Transmission Meets Constrained Bit Rate
abstract
In this article, the cluster synchronization control problem is studied for discrete-time complex dynamical networks when the data transmission is subject to constrained bit rate. A bit-rate model is presented to quantify the limited network bandwidth, and the effects from the constrained bit rate onto the control performance of the cluster synchronization are evaluated. A sufficient condition is first proposed to guarantee the ultimate boundedness of the error dynamics of the cluster synchronization, and then, a bit-rate condition is established to reveal the fundamental relationship between the bit rate and the certain performance index of the cluster synchronization. Subsequently, two optimization problems are formulated to design the desired synchronization controllers with aim to achieve two distinct synchronization performance indices. The codesign issue for the bit-rate allocation protocol and the controller gains is further discussed to reduce the conservatism by locally minimizing a certain asymptotic upper bound of the synchronization error dynamics. Finally, three illustrative simulation examples are utilized to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed synchronization control scheme.

2023 Guaranteeing Global Stability for Neuro-Adaptive Control of Unknown Pure-Feedback Nonaffine Systems via Barrier Functions
abstract
Most existing approximation-based adaptive control (AAC) approaches for unknown pure-feedback nonaffine systems retain a dilemma that all closed-loop signals are semiglobally uniformly bounded (SGUB) rather than globally uniformly bounded (GUB). To achieve the GUB stability result, this article presents a neuro-adaptive backstepping control approach by blending the mean value theorem (MVT), the barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs), and the technique of neural approximation. Specifically, we first resort the MVT to acquire the intermediate and actual control inputs from the nonaffine structures directly. Then, neural networks (NNs) are adopted to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions, in which the compact sets for maintaining the approximation capabilities of NNs are predetermined actively through the BLFs. It is shown that, with the developed neuro-adaptive control scheme, global stability of the resulting closed-loop system is ensured. Simulations are conducted to verify and clarify the developed approach.

2023 Finite-Time Estimation for Markovian BAM Neural Networks With Asymmetrical Mode-Dependent Delays and Inconstant Measurements
abstract
The issue of finite-time state estimation is studied for discrete-time Markovian bidirectional associative memory neural networks. The asymmetrical system mode-dependent (SMD) time-varying delays (TVDs) are considered, which means that the interval of TVDs is SMD. Because the sensors are inevitably influenced by the measurement environments and indirectly influenced by the system mode, a Markov chain, whose transition probability matrix is SMD, is used to describe the inconstant measurement. A nonfragile estimator is designed to improve the robustness of the estimator. The stochastically finite-time bounded stability is guaranteed under certain conditions. Finally, an example is used to clarify the effectiveness of the state estimation.

2023 Distributed Extended State Estimation for Complex Networks With Nonlinear Uncertainty
abstract
This article studies the distributed state estimation issue for complex networks with nonlinear uncertainty. The extended state approach is used to deal with the nonlinear uncertainty. The distributed state predictor is designed based on the extended state system model, and the distributed state estimator is designed by using the measurement of the corresponding node. The prediction error and the estimation error are derived. The prediction error covariance (PEC) is obtained in terms of the recursive Riccati equation, and the upper bound of the PEC is minimized by designing an optimal estimator gain. With the vectorization approach, a sufficient condition concerning stability of the upper bound is developed. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the designed extended state estimator.

2023 Deep Reinforcement Learning on Autonomous Driving Policy With Auxiliary Critic Network
abstract
Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) is a machine learning method based on rewards, which can be extended to solve some complex and realistic decision-making problems. Autonomous driving needs to deal with a variety of complex and changeable traffic scenarios, so the application of DRL in autonomous driving presents a broad application prospect. In this article, an end-to-end autonomous driving policy learning method based on DRL is proposed. On the basis of proximal policy optimization (PPO), we combine a curiosity-driven method called recurrent neural network (RNN) to generate an intrinsic reward signal to encounter the agent to explore its environment, which improves the efficiency of exploration. We introduce an auxiliary critic network on the original actor-critic framework and choose the lower estimate which is predicted by the dual critic network when the network update to avoid the overestimation bias. We test our method on the lane- keeping task and overtaking task in the open racing car simulator (TORCS) driving simulator and compare with other DRL methods, experimental results show that our proposed method can improve the training efficiency and control performance in driving tasks.

2022 Saturated Threshold Event-Triggered Control for Multiagent Systems Under Sensor Attacks and Its Application to UAVs
abstract
This paper investigates the secure consensus tracking problem for continuous-time nonlinear multiagent systems with sensor attacks. By designing a secure data selector, the unattacked output data is extracted from a group of output measurements under sparse sensor attacks. Then, by virtue of the obtained data and neural networks, a state observer is constructed to estimate the unavailable system states, where the convex combination theory is introduced to reduce the difficulty of solving observation gains. To utilize the limited communication resources reasonably, a novel saturated threshold event-triggered control strategy is proposed to reduce control updates, and then each update is encoded into a binary signal (0 or 1) to further reduce the occupation of communication bandwidth. The designed control scheme ensures that all closed-loop signals are semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded, and its effectiveness is verified via a simulation of attitude control of unmanned aerial vehicles.

2022 Distributed Reinforcement Learning Containment Control for Multiple Nonholonomic Mobile Robots
abstract
In this paper, the distributed optimal containment control problem for multiple nonholonomic mobile robots (NHMRs) differential game is studied via reinforcement learning. An approximation-based optimal control strategy is developed to ensure the optimal performance index and avoid the potential collision among agents. Firstly, the collision avoidance problem considered in this paper is addressed by exploiting a consensus-like interconnection on a directed graph and an error transformation function. Then, on the basis of the optimal backstepping technique, a single critic neural network is adopted to obtain the solution of the coupled Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equation, in which an improved learning mechanism is constructed to relax the requirement on initial control conditions. In addition, based on the Lyapunov stability theory, it is proved that all signals in the closed-loop optimal control are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, the proposed control protocol is applied to NHMRs system, which verifies that the solution of the coupled HJ equation solves the containment problem of differential game.

2022 An Efficient Algorithm to Determine the Connectivity of Complex Directed Networks
abstract
The connectivity is an essential property of the connections between the nodes in networks. The efficient determination algorithm for the connectivity of complex directed networks is an important research direction in graph theory. Aiming at the determination problem of the strong connectivity of directed networks, we propose an improved algorithm over the Warshall algorithm, which extends the research object to complex directed networks and has only the half time complexity of that of the latter. In addition, this article also takes the lead in research on the determination algorithm for the unilateral connectivity of complex directed networks, and on this basis, we propose an algorithm to efficiently determine the unilateral connectivity. Finally, the above two algorithms are integrated into a unified and efficient algorithm with the time complexity of$\mathcal {O}({n}^{3}+4.5{n}^{2})$. This algorithm can determine not only the strong connectivity but also the unilateral connectivity of complex directed networks.

2022 Distributed Cooperative Compound Tracking Control for a Platoon of Vehicles With Adaptive NN
abstract
This article focuses on the distributed cooperative compound tracking issue of the vehicular platoon. First, a definition, called compound tracking control, is proposed, which means that the practical finite-time stability and asymptotical convergence can be simultaneously satisfied. Then, a modified performance function, named finite-time performance function, is designed, which possesses the faster convergence rate compared to the existing ones. Moreover, the adaptive neural network (NN), prescribed performance technique, and backstepping method are utilized to design a distributed cooperative regulation protocol. It is worth noting that the convergence time of the proposed algorithm does not depend on the initial values and design parameters. Finally, simulation experiments are given to further verify the effectiveness of the presented theoretical findings.

2022 Secure Finite-Horizon Consensus Control of Multiagent Systems Against Cyber Attacks
abstract
The problem of secure finite-horizon consensus control for discrete time-varying multiagent systems (MASs) with actuator saturation and cyber attacks is addressed in this article. A random attack model is first proposed to account for randomly occurring false data injection attacks and denial-of-service attacks, whose dynamics are governed by the random Markov process. The hybrid secure control scheme is developed to mitigate the influence of arbitrary cyber attacks on system performance. Specifically, this article proposes a hybrid control law containing multiple controllers, each of which is designed to counter different types of cyber attacks. By using the stochastic analysis approach, two sufficient criteria are provided to guarantee that the time-varying MASs satisfy the finite horizon$H_{\infty }$consensus performance. Then, the controller parameters are obtained by solving the recursive linear matrix inequality. The usefulness of the theoretic results presented is demonstrated via a numerical example that contains a performance comparison of different secure control schemes.

2022 Adaptive Approximation-Based Tracking Control for a Class of Unknown High-Order Nonlinear Systems With Unknown Powers
abstract
In this article, the problem of adaptive tracking control is tackled for a class of high-order nonlinear systems. In contrast to existing results, the considered system contains not only unknown nonlinear functions but also unknown rational powers. By utilizing the fuzzy approximation approach together with the barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs), we present a new adaptive tracking control strategy. Remarkably, the BLFs are employed to determine a priori the compact set for maintaining the validity of fuzzy approximation. The primary advantage of this article is that the developed controller is independent of the powers and can be capable of ensuring global stability. Finally, two illustrative examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical findings.

2022 Adaptive Prescribed Performance Control of A Flexible-Joint Robotic Manipulator With Dynamic Uncertainties
abstract
An adaptive fuzzy control strategy is proposed for a single-link flexible-joint robotic manipulator (SFRM) with prescribed performance, in which the unknown nonlinearity is identified by adopting the fuzzy-logic system. By designing a performance function, the transient performance of the control system is guaranteed. To stabilize the SFRM, a dynamic signal is applied to handle the unmodeled dynamics. To cut down the communication load of the channel, the event-triggered control law is developed based on the switching threshold strategy. The Lyapunov stability theory and backstepping technique are applied coordinately to design the control strategy. The semiglobally ultimately uniformly boundedness can be ensured for all signals in the closed-loop system. The designed control method can also guarantee that the tracking error can converge to a small neighborhood of zero within the prescribed performance boundaries. At the end of the article, two illustrative examples are shown to validate the designed event-triggered controller.

2022 Distributed Finite-Time Containment Control for Nonlinear Multiagent Systems With Mismatched Disturbances
abstract
This article proposes a finite-time adaptive containment control scheme for a class of uncertain nonlinear multiagent systems subject to mismatched disturbances and actuator failures. The dynamic surface control technique and adding a power integrator technique are modified to develop the distributed finite-time adaptive containment algorithm, which shows lower computational complexity. In order to overcome the difficulty from the mismatched uncertainties, the disturbance observers are constructed based on the backstepping technique. Moreover, the uncertain actuator faults, including loss of effectiveness model and lock-in-place model, are considered and compensated by the proposed adaptive control scheme in this article. According to the Lyapunov stability theory, it is demonstrated that the containment errors are practically finite-time stable in the presence of actuator faults. This article focuses on the investigation of finite-time dissipative state estimation for Markov jump neural networks. First, in view of the subsistent phenomenon that the state estimator cannot capture the system modes synchronously, the hidden Markov model with partly unknown probabilities is introduced in this article to describe such asynchronization constraint. For the upper limit of network bandwidth and computing resources, a novel dynamic event-triggered transmission mechanism, whose threshold parameter is constructed as an adjustable diagonal matrix, is set between the estimator and the original system to avoid data collision and save energy. Then, with the assistance of Lyapunov techniques, an event-based asynchronous state estimator is designed to ensure that the resulting system is finite-time bounded with a prescribed dissipation performance index. Ultimately, the effectiveness of the proposed estimator design approach combining with a dynamic event-triggered transmission mechanism is demonstrated by a numerical example.

2022 Approximation-Based Nussbaum Gain Adaptive Control of Nonlinear Systems With Periodic Disturbances
abstract
This article considers the Nussbaum gain adaptive control issue for a type of nonlinear systems, in which some sophisticated and challenging problems, such as periodic disturbances, dead zone output, and unknown control direction are addressed. The Fourier series expansion and radial basis function neural network are incorporated into a function approximator to model time-varying-disturbed function with a known period in nonlinear systems. To deal with the problems of the dead zone output and unknown control direction, the Nussbaum-type function is recommended in the design of the control algorithm. Applying the Lyapunov stability theory and backstepping technique, the proposed control strategy ensures that the tracking error is pulled back to a small neighborhood of origin and all closed-loop signals are bounded. Finally, simulation results are presented to show the availability and validity of the analysis approach.

2022 Event-Triggered and Asynchronous Reduced-Order Filtering Codesign for Fuzzy Markov Jump Systems
abstract
This article is devoted to the investigation of reduced-order dissipative filtering for Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy Markov jump systems with the event-triggered mechanism. For the proposed event-triggered mechanism, its threshold parameter is constructed as a special diagonal matrix which can improve system performance by flexibly adjusting the matrix elements. Due to the impact of the sampling behaviors and the environmental disturbance, the asynchronization between the filter and the estimated system is considered in this article, which can be characterized by the hidden Markov model. Through handling the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) with some slack matrices, event-triggered fuzzy filters are designed to guarantee the resulting system is stochastically stable and strictly dissipative. The proposed filter parameters are obtained by solving LMIs. Ultimately, both the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed reduced-order filter with the event-triggered mechanism are verified by a practical example.

2022 Event-Triggered Guaranteed Cost Leader-Following Consensus Control of Second-Order Nonlinear Multiagent Systems
abstract
This article deals with the event-triggered leader-following guaranteed cost consensus control problem for second-order nonlinear multiagent systems, in which the guaranteed cost function is proposed to facilitate to enhance the consensus tracking regulation performance. To reduce the frequency of information transmission, a distributed event-triggered mechanism, which broadcasts the triggered states to its neighbours for each agent, is designed, and the triggering condition is then constructed for leader-following second-order nonlinear multiagent systems. By employing Lyapunov–Krasovskii method and Barbalat’s lemma, some sufficient conditions are derived to ensure the leader-following consensus and guaranteed cost performance for second-order nonlinear multiagent systems. It is also exhibited that the constructed triggering condition can efficaciously exclude the Zeno behavior. To testify the efficacy of the proposed theoretical methodology, a simulation example is offered.

2021 Containment Control for Networked Fractional-Order Systems With Sampled Position Data
abstract
This paper develops two novel containment control protocols for networked fractional-order systems with sampled position data. In the first scenario, time delay is not considered and the protocol is about the last and causal past sampled position data, while in the second scenario, time delay is considered and the protocol is about the last and time delay sampled position data. Successively, some necessary and sufficient criteria are derived for two classes of protocols. It is interesting to find that containment control of networked fractional-order systems cannot be reached under the developed control protocols without the help of the causal past sampled position data or time delay. Lastly, the effectiveness of theoretical results is verified through a simulation example.

2021 Event-Triggered Output-Feedback Control for Large-Scale Systems With Unknown Hysteresis
abstract
This article focuses on the event-triggered-based adaptive neural-network (NN) control problem for nonlinear large-scale systems (LSSs) in the presence of full-state constraints and unknown hysteresis. The characteristic of radial basis function NNs is utilized to construct a state observer and address the algebraic loop problem. To reduce the communication burden and the signal transmission frequency, the event-triggered mechanism and the encoding-decoding strategy are proposed with the help of a backstepping control technique. To encode and decode the event-triggering control signal, a one-bit signal transmission strategy is adopted to consume less communication bandwidth. Then, by estimating the unknown constants in the differential equation of unknown hysteresis, the effect caused by unknown backlash-like hysteresis is compensated for nonlinear LSSs. Moreover, the violation of full-state constraints is prevented based on the barrier Lyapunov functions and all signals of the closed-loop system are proven to be semiglobally ultimately uniformly bounded. Finally, two simulation examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed strategy.

2021 Distributed H∞ State Estimator Design for Time-Delay Periodic Systems Over Scheduling Sensor Networks
abstract
This paper studies the distributed state estimator design method for periodic systems with time-varying delays and periodic communication scheduling strategy over sensor networks. To mitigate the stability attenuation and the performance loss caused by delays, a periodic delay-dependent Lyapunov function is constructed, which relaxes the conservatism and improves the ${H_\infty }$ performance of the estimators. Then, a periodic scheduling strategy, which updates the correlative innovations of each node during a period in an average way by solving an integer programming problem, is proposed to save energy. Periodic gains of distributed estimators are designed by using analog tool. Finally, a visual example is utilized to describe the periodic communication scheduling. The effectiveness of the strategy and the novel Lyapunov function is demonstrated by the example.

2021 Prescribed Performance Consensus Fuzzy Control of Multiagent Systems With Nonaffine Nonlinear Faults
abstract
The problem of leader-following consensus fault-tolerant control is investigated for multiagent systems (MASs) with time-varying nonaffine nonlinear faults, where the interactive topology is directional. In this article, to guarantee the performance consensus on tracking error, in the design process, the inherent problem of “explosion of complexity” is solved by the dynamic surface control technique. Fuzzy logic systems are employed to approximate the unknown nonlinearity effects and changes in model dynamics due to faults. A fuzzy state observer is presented to estimate the unmeasured states. According to the backstepping technique, a distributed consensus fuzzy controller is developed to guarantee that output signals of all followers and leader are synchronized. It can be proved that all variables of MASs are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, the validity of the control scheme is illustrated by some simulation results.

2021 Tracking Control of a Linear Motor Positioner Based on Barrier Function Adaptive Sliding Mode
abstract
The tracking performance of linear motor (LM) positioners is subject to payload uncertainty and external time-varying disturbances. Conventional robust controllers typically employ a high control gain that is substantially greater than the known a priori upper bound of the disturbance to ensure tracking error convergence. The main disadvantage of those controllers lies in that when the disturbance decreases, the control input is often overly generated, which then results in undesired control chattering effect or even actuator saturation. To overcome this problem, this article develops a robust tracking controller based on barrier function adaptive sliding mode (BFASM) for the LM positioners. The main benefits of BFASM are twofold: first, the controller is designed without the need for any disturbance information; second, its control gain is adaptively adjusted in terms of the amplitude of disturbance and, thus, leads to decreased control input when the disturbance becomes small. Furthermore, a modified barrier function (MBF) is proposed for applications with actuator saturation. It is proved that both the BFASM and MBF-based controllers can ensure the convergence of the tracking error into a prespecified neighborhood of zero in finite time. Experimental results on a real LM positioner demonstrate the superior properties of the developed controllers in comparison with two existing robust control schemes.

2021 Finite-Time Consensus Tracking Neural Network FTC of Multi-Agent Systems
abstract
The finite-time consensus fault-tolerant control (FTC) tracking problem is studied for the nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) in the nonstrict feedback form. The MASs are subject to unknown symmetric output dead zones, actuator bias and gain faults, and unknown control coefficients. According to the properties of the neural network (NN), the unstructured uncertainties problem is solved. The Nussbaum function is used to address the output dead zones and unknown control directions problems. By introducing an arbitrarily small positive number, the "singularity" problem caused by combining the finite-time control and backstepping design is solved. According to the backstepping design and Lyapunov stability theory, a finite-time adaptive NN FTC controller is obtained, which guarantees that the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of zero in a finite time, and all signals in the closed-loop system are bounded. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated via a physical example.

2021 Robust Lidar-Based Localization Scheme for Unmanned Ground Vehicle via Multisensor Fusion
abstract
This article proposes a robust and precise localization scheme for unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) in global positioning system (GPS)-denied and GPS-challenged environments via multisensor fusion approach. The localization scheme is proposed to be under an available point-cloud map. First, initialization in localization module is designed to calculate the initial position of UGV in map using the Gaussian projection approach and obtain the frame transformation between the 3-D lidar and the inertial measurement unit (IMU). Second, the best alignment between each scan frame and the available submap is obtained, and the pose of vehicle relative to the origin of map is calculated. Third, the precise pose of UGV is well predicted by integrating the data from 3-D lidar and IMU. Fourth, in order to visually verify the proposed localization scheme, the motion of vehicle is visualized by designing the visualization module. Note that the preprocessing module aims to process the raw scan data. The availability of our proposed localization scheme is verified by conducting experiments in our campus.

2021 Event-Triggered Control for Multiagent Systems With Sensor Faults and Input Saturation
abstract
An adaptive neural network (NN) event-triggered control scheme is proposed for nonlinear nonstrict-feedback multiagent systems (MASs) against input saturation, unknown disturbance, and sensor faults. Mean-value theorem and Nussbaum-type function are invoked to transform the structure of the input saturation and overcome the difficulty of unknown control directions, respectively. On the basis of the universal approximation property of NNs, a nonlinear disturbance observer is designed to estimate the unknown compounded disturbance composed of external disturbance and the residual term of input saturation. According to the measurement error defined by control signal, an event-triggered mechanism is developed to save network transmission resource and reduce the number of controller update. Then, an adaptive NN compensation control approach is proposed to tackle the problem of sensor faults via the dynamic surface control (DSC) technique. It is proved that all signals in the closed-loop system are semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented control strategy.

2021 Quasi-Synchronization for Periodic Neural Networks With Asynchronous Target and Constrained Information
abstract
This paper investigates the problem of quasi-synchronization (QS) for the periodic neural networks (NNs). In order to address more general NNs, the parameter and the period mismatches are both considered, that is, excluding parameters, periods of the target dynamic and the followers are also different. In addition, the constrainted target information is studied, where the logarithmic quantizer is used to overcome the limited communication capacity and Bernoulli processes are employed to model cases of the information loss. A new period is established based on the lowest common multiple period of the target dynamic and the followers to obtain an augmented synchronization error system (ASES). Further, a suboptimal iterative algorithm is proposed to cut down the QS range of the ASES and the corresponding controllers are designed. At last, the controller design method is illustrated by a numerical example.

2021 Adaptive Fixed-Time Control of Error-Constrained Pure-Feedback Interconnected Nonlinear Systems
abstract
This article addresses the problem of decentralized adaptive fuzzy fixed-time control for a class of pure-feedback interconnected nonlinear systems with full-state tracking error constraints. The fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) are adopted to model the unknown nonlinear functions. Combining the properties of the prescribed performance functions (PPFs) with barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs), the predefined state tracking error dynamic performance and good tracking accuracy are guaranteed. Then, on the basis of the backstepping recursive design technique, a structurally simple adaptive fuzzy fixed-time controller is designed. Furthermore, by the fixed-time stability criterion and the Lyapunov stability theory, it is proven that the boundedness of system signals is guaranteed, and the full-state tracking errors can evolve within the prescribed performance regions within the fixed time. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated by some simulation results.

2020 Event-Triggered Consensus Control for Multi-Agent Systems Against False Data-Injection Attacks
abstract
In this article, the event-triggered security consensus problem is studied for time-varying multiagent systems (MASs) against false data-injection attacks (FDIAs) and parameter uncertainties over a given finite horizon. In the process of information transmission, the malicious attacker tries to inject false signals to destroy consensus by compromising the integrity of measurements and control signals. The randomly occurring stealthy FDIAs on sensors and actuators are modeled by the Bernoulli processes. In order to reduce the unnecessary utilization of communication resources, an event-triggered control mechanism with state-dependent threshold is adopted to update the control input signal. The main objective of this article is to design a controller such that, under randomly occurring FDIAs and admissible parameter uncertainties, the MASs achieve consensus. By utilizing stochastic analysis method, two sufficient criteria are derived to ensure that the prescribed H∞ consensus performance can be achieved. Then, the desired controller gains are derived by solving recursive linear matrix inequalities. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed control method.

2020 Optimal Filtered and Smoothed Estimators for Discrete-Time Linear Systems With Multiple Packet Dropouts Under Markovian Communication Constraints
abstract
This paper concentrates on the linear least mean square (LLMS) filtered and smoothed estimators for networked linear stochastic systems. Multiple packet losses, Markovian communication constraints, and superposed process noise are considered simultaneously. In order to reduce the channel load during communication, at every step, just one transmission node is permitted to send data packets. Hence, a Markovian communication protocol is utilized to arrange the packets of these transmission nodes. Moreover, multiple data packet dropouts occur during transmission due to an imperfect communication channel. Therefore, the global observation information cannot be obtained by the state estimator. The real state of Markov chain is assumed to be unknown to the estimator except the transition probability matrix. By means of the innovation analysis approach and orthogonal projection principle, we design Kalman-like estimators in a recursive form. Finally, through simulation experiments, we verify the effectiveness and superiority of the designed algorithm.

2020 Distributed Sliding-Mode Tracking Control of Second-Order Nonlinear Multiagent Systems: An Event-Triggered Approach
abstract
The event-triggered tracking control problem of second-order multiagent systems in consideration of system nonlinearities is investigated by utilizing the distributed sliding-mode control (SMC) approach. An event-triggered strategy is proposed to decrease the controller sampling frequency and save the network communication resources; the triggering condition is then established for leader-following multiagent systems. In this article, by utilizing the distributed event-based sliding-mode controller, the system state of second-order multiagent systems with system nonlinearities is capable of approaching the integral sliding-mode surface in finite time. A novel integral sliding-mode surface is constructed in this article to guarantee the consensus tracking performance in the existence of system nonlinearities as the state trajectories of second-order integrator systems move on the constructed sliding manifold. By employing the Lyapunov approach, sufficient conditions are deduced to ensure that the consensus tracking performance is obtained for the closed-loop system. Furthermore, it is presented that the triggering scheme can effectively reduce state updates and eliminate the Zeno behavior. A simulation example is provided to testify the validity of our proposed methodology.

2020 A Wide-Deep-Sequence Model-Based Quality Prediction Method in Industrial Process Analysis
abstract
Product quality prediction, as an important issue of industrial intelligence, is a typical task of industrial process analysis, in which product quality will be evaluated and improved as feedback for industrial process adjustment. Data-driven methods, with predictive model to analyze various industrial data, have been received considerable attention in recent years. However, to get an accurate prediction, it is an essential issue to extract quality features from industrial data, including several variables generated from supply chain and time-variant machining process. In this article, a data-driven method based on wide-deep-sequence (WDS) model is proposed to provide a reliable quality prediction for industrial process with different types of industrial data. To process industrial data of high redundancy, in this article, data reduction is first conducted on different variables by different techniques. Also, an improved wide-deep (WD) model is proposed to extract quality features from key time-invariant variables. Meanwhile, an long short-term memory (LSTM)-based sequence model is presented for exploring quality information from time-domain features. Under the joint training strategy, these models will be combined and optimized by a designed penalty mechanism for unreliable predictions, especially on reduction of defective products. Finally, experiments on a real-world manufacturing process data set are carried out to present the effectiveness of the proposed method in product quality prediction.

2020 Improved Minmax Control for Industrial Networked Systems Over Imperfect Communication
abstract
To cope with control issues of the networked control system under packet losses and uncertainty, an improved state space model-based linear quadratic (LQ) control is proposed in this paper. By extending the state vector with the set-point tracking error, the novel state space model provides more degrees of freedom for the relevant controller design through adjusting the corresponding weighting coefficients of the state variables and tracking error separately. Under such advantages, the proposed LQ scheme provides improved control performance compared with conventional LQ strategy in which only the original state variables can be weighted. A case study on the temperature regulation of an industrial coke furnace under uncertainty and packet losses is introduced to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme in comparison with conventional LQ strategy.

2020 Optimal Estimation for Discrete-Time Linear System with Communication Constraints and Measurement Quantization
abstract
This paper focuses on the linear minimum mean square estimator for a networked discrete time-varying linear system subject to data quantification and communication constraints. The communication limitation is that only one transmission node can get access to the shared communication channel at each time step, and that different transmission nodes in the networked systems are scheduled to transmit information according to a Markov protocol. Then the remote estimator completes the estimation with only partially available observations, which are quantified. Suppose that the Markov chain is unknown to the remote estimator. By using orthogonal projection principle and innovation analysis method, a Kalman type filter is designed in a recurrence form. It is shown that estimation performance depends on the transition probability matrix of the Markov chain, quantization error, and the shared channel weighting parameter. Finally, an illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

2019 Synchronization Control for Network Systems With Communication Constraints
abstract
A novel control strategy for synchronization control for network systems with communication constraints is presented in this paper. The dynamics of nodes in the network are nonidentical. The communication topology of network is weakly connected with communication constraints. The designed distributed controller for each node has two parts: reference generator (RG) and regulator. All RGs adopt the communication channels to exchange local information and track the target trajectory. Meanwhile, regulator can ensure that nonidentical node achieves synchronization with its RG. In order to reduce the communication frequency between node and its regulator, a sampled-date control strategy is utilized. The upper bound of the aperiodic sampling instants is calculated through the small-gain theorem, where the closed-loop system is equivalently formulated as the feedback interconnection of a linear time-invariant system and an integral sampled-data operator. Finally, some simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the controller design strategy.

2019 Finite-Horizon $l_2-l_\infty$ Synchronization for Time-Varying Markovian Jump Neural Networks Under Mixed-Type Attacks: Observer-Based Case
abstract
This paper studies the synchronization issue of time-varying Markovian jump neural networks (NNs). The denial-of-service (DoS) attack is considered in the communication channel connecting master NNs and slave NNs. An observer is designed based on the measurements of master NNs transmitted over this unreliable channel to estimate their states. The deception attack is used to destroy the controller by changing the sign of the control signal. Then, the mixed-type attacks are expressed uniformly, and a synchronization error system is established using this function. A finite-horizon l2- l∞performance is proposed, and sufficient conditions are derived to ensure that the synchronization error system satisfies this performance. The controllers are then obtained by a recursive linear matrix inequality algorithm. At last, a simulation result to show the feasibility of the developed results is given.

abstract
In this paper, the adaptive neural network (NN) tracking control problem is addressed for robot manipulators subject to dead-zone input. The control objective is to design an adaptive NN controller to guarantee the stability of the systems and obtain good performance. Different from the existing results, which used NN to approximate the nonlinearities directly, NNs are employed to identify the originally designed virtual control signals with unknown nonlinear items in this paper. Moreover, a sequence of virtual control signals and real controller are designed. The adaptive backstepping control method and Lyapunov stability theory are used to prove the proposed controller can ensure all the signals in the systems are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded, and the output of the systems can track the reference signal closely. Finally, the proposed adaptive control strategy is applied to the Puma 560 robot manipulator to demonstrate its effectiveness.

By introducing two mutually independent and mode-dependent fading channel coefficients, the undulation of communication workload caused by the change of system mode can be accurately described. Also, the mixed time delays including the discrete and the infinite distributed delays are considered. Our goal is to design a reliable controller, which can guarantee the passivity of the closed-loop control system even when some sensors experience faults or failures. To realize this reliable controller, we introduce an additional matrix and utilize some inequality techniques. By using Lyapunov function technique, the gain of the designed controller can be solved. The merits and effectiveness of the developed design scheme are verified by a simulation example.

2019 ℋ2 Performance Analysis and Applications of 2-D Hidden Bernoulli Jump System
abstract
The asymptotic mean square stability and H2performance of the 2-D hidden Bernoulli jump system is analyzed in this paper. This system, essentially, has a bi-jumping property, in other words, its jumps depend on two jumping parameters, one is the Bernoulli process, the other is dependent on the Bernoulli process via a conditional probability matrix, they together determine which subsystem is active and are coined as hidden Bernoulli model. By means of Lyapunov function method, a sufficient condition is derived, which reveals that the system is asymptotically mean square stable and has a certain H2performance if a set of matrix inequalities are satisfied. Furthermore, the issues of asynchronous control and filtering are addressed for 2-D Bernoulli jump system based on the hidden Bernoulli model and the derived result. Finally, numerical simulations indicate that these proposed theories and methods are reliable and efficient.

2018 Analysis and Design of Synchronization for Heterogeneous Network
abstract
In this paper, we investigate the synchronization for heterogeneous network subject to event-triggering communication. The designed controller for each node includes reference generator (RG) and regulator. The predicted value of relative information between intermittent communication can significantly reduce the transmitted information. Based on the event triggering strategy and time-dependent threshold, all RGs can exponentially track the target trajectory. Then by the action of regulator, each node synchronizes with its RG. Meanwhile, a positive lower bound is obtained for the interevent intervals. Numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed event triggering strategy.

2018 Finite-Time Distributed State Estimation Over Sensor Networks With Round-Robin Protocol and Fading Channels
abstract
This paper considers finite-time distributed state estimation for discrete-time nonlinear systems over sensor networks. The Round-Robin protocol is introduced to overcome the channel capacity constraint among sensor nodes, and the multiplicative noise is employed to model the channel fading. In order to improve the performance of the estimator under the situation, where the transmission resources are limited, fading channels with different stochastic properties are used in each round by allocating the resources. Sufficient conditions of the average stochastic finite-time boundedness and the average stochastic finite-time stability for the estimation error system are derived on the basis of the periodic system analysis method and Lyapunov approach, respectively. According to the linear matrix inequality approach, the estimator gains are designed. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed results are illustrated by a numerical example.

2018 Filtering for Fuzzy Systems With Multiplicative Sensor Noises and Multidensity Quantizer
abstract
This paper considers the problem of I2- I∞filtering for discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with multiplicative sensor noises over the channels with limited capacity. A more general multidensity logarithmic quantizer is designed to increase the utilization of the communication resources, and a sojourn-time-dependent Markov chain is used to model the variation of the quantizer density. Then, the fuzzy basis-, quantizer density-, and sojourn-time-dependent filter is designed for T-S fuzzy systems on the basis of the quantized measurements to improve the performance of the filter. Sufficient conditions are proposed to guarantee that the filtering error system is exponentially mean-square stable and achieves a prescribed I2- I∞performance. Finally, three examples are given to illustrate the developed new design techniques.

2018 Asynchronous Filtering of Nonlinear Markov Jump Systems With Randomly Occurred Quantization via T-S Fuzzy Models
abstract
This paper focuses on the dissipativity-based asynchronous filtering problem for a class of discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy Markov jump systems subject to randomly occurred quantization. Considering the random fluctuations of network conditions, the randomly occurred quantization is introduced to describe the quantization phenomenon appearing in a probabilistic way. To take full advantage of the partial information of system modes for the desired system performance, we adopt the asynchronous filter in which mode transition matrix is nonhomogeneous. The mode-dependent time-varying delays are introduced, which have different bounds for different system modes. Via fuzzy-mode-dependent Lyapunov functional approach that can reduce conservatism, a sufficient condition on the existence of the asynchronous filter is derived such that the filtering error system is stochastically stable and strictly (Q, S, R)-dissipative. Then, the gains of the filter are obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An example is utilized to illustrate the validity of the developed filter design technique where the relationships among optimal dissipative performance indices, delays, quantization parameter, and the degree of asynchronous jumps are given.

2018 Observer-Based Composite Adaptive Fuzzy Control for Nonstrict-Feedback Systems With Actuator Failures
abstract
This paper studies the observer-based adaptive fuzzy tracking control problem for a general class of multi-input-single-output nonstrict-feedback systems subject to unmeasured states and actuator failures. For actuator failures, both cases of lock-in-place and loss of effectiveness are synchronously considered. To handle the unknown nonlinear functions, fuzzy logic systems are employed. By constructing a fuzzy observer and a serial-parallel estimation model, the unmeasured states are estimated and the accuracy of approximating the unknown functions is improved. Moreover, taking into account the prediction error between the fuzzy observer and the serial-parallel estimation model, a novel composite fuzzy output-feedback control scheme is developed. Unlike some existing control schemes for systems with actuator failures, the developed control scheme allows one to avoid the problem of “explosion of complexity” and improve the approximation performance. It is proved that all signals in the system are bounded and the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of the origin by choosing appropriate parameters. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed via simulation examples with actuator failures.

2018 Sampled-Data Synchronization of Complex Networks With Partial Couplings and T-S Fuzzy Nodes
abstract
This paper is concerned with the synchronization of complex networks subject to partial couplings and Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy nodes, by adopting the aperiodic sampled-data strategy. A decoupling method is utilized to handle the partial couplings among connected nodes, which enables us to investigate each channel of complex networks independently. On the basis of the input-delay approach, the hybrid system about each channel is reformulated to a continuous time-varying delay system. Then, the free-weighting matrix approach and a novel continuous Lyapunov functional are adopted to capture the information of sampling pattern. Sufficient conditions are obtained to ensure that the complex networks achieves synchronization with the target node. Furthermore, the proposed strategy is extended to more general case, in which there exist constant transmission time delays in the local interactions of connected nodes. Based on Wirtinger's inequality, a simplified and efficient synchronization strategy is proposed. Moreover, the corresponding optimization problem about the maximal sampling interval upper bound is addressed as well. Finally, the communication frequency reduction potential of the proposed synchronization strategy is well demonstrated via a numerical example.

2018 Synchronization of General Chaotic Neural Networks With Nonuniform Sampling and Packet Missing: A Switched System Approach
abstract
This paper is concerned with the exponential synchronization issue of general chaotic neural networks subject to nonuniform sampling and control packet missing in the frame of the zero-input strategy. Based on this strategy, we make use of the switched system model to describe the synchronization error system. First, when the missing of control packet does not occur, an exponential stability criterion with less conservatism is established for the resultant synchronization error systems via a superior time-dependent Lyapunov functional and the convex optimization approach. The characteristics induced by nonuniform sampling can be used to the full because of the structure and property of the constructed Lyapunov functional, that is not necessary to be positive definite except sampling times. Then, a criterion is obtained to guarantee that the general chaotic neural networks are synchronous exponentially when the missing of control packet occurs by means of the average dwell-time technique. An explicit expression of the sampled-data static output feedback controller is also gained. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed new design methods is shown via two examples.

2018 Dissipativity-Based Resilient Filtering of Periodic Markovian Jump Neural Networks With Quantized Measurements
abstract
The problem of dissipativity-based resilient filtering for discrete-time periodic Markov jump neural networks in the presence of quantized measurements is investigated in this paper. Due to the limited capacities of network medium, a logarithmic quantizer is applied to the underlying systems. Considering the fact that the filter is realized through a network, randomly occurring parameter uncertainties of the filter are modeled by two mode-dependent Bernoulli processes. By establishing the mode-dependent periodic Lyapunov function, sufficient conditions are given to ensure the stability and dissipativity of the filtering error system. The filter parameters are derived via solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. The merits and validity of the proposed design techniques are verified by a simulation example.

2018 Remote Estimator Design for Time-Delay Neural Networks Using Communication State Information
abstract
This paper investigates the estimator design for the neural networks, where distributed delays and imperfect measurements are included. A randomly occurred neuron-dependent nonlinearity is used to describe the uncertain measurements disturbed by neurons. The measurements are transmitted over multiple transmission channels, and Markov chains are introduced to model packet dropouts of these channels. A one-to-one map is constructed to transform $m$ independent Markov chains to an augmented one to facilitate system analysis. A new variable called channel state is defined based on the cases of packet dropouts, and the channel-state-dependent estimator is designed to trade off between the number and the performance of the estimator. Sufficient conditions are established to guarantee that the augmented system is stochastically stable and satisfies the strict $(Q, S, R)-\gamma -$ dissipativity. The estimator gains are derived using linear matrix methods. Finally, an example is applied to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed methods.

2018 Robust Estimation for Neural Networks With Randomly Occurring Distributed Delays and Markovian Jump Coupling
abstract
This paper studies the issue of robust state estimation for coupled neural networks with parameter uncertainty and randomly occurring distributed delays, where the polytopic model is employed to describe the parameter uncertainty. A set of Bernoulli processes with different stochastic properties are introduced to model the randomly occurrences of the distributed delays. Novel state estimators based on the local coupling structure are proposed to make full use of the coupling information. The augmented estimation error system is obtained based on the Kronecker product. A new Lyapunov function, which depends both on the polytopic uncertainty and the coupling information, is introduced to reduce the conservatism. Sufficient conditions, which guarantee the stochastic stability and the performance of the augmented estimation error system, are established. Then, the estimator gains are further obtained on the basis of these conditions. Finally, a numerical example is used to prove the effectiveness of the results.

2018 Decoupled ARX and RBF Neural Network Modeling Using PCA and GA Optimization for Nonlinear Distributed Parameter Systems
abstract
Modeling of distributed parameter systems is difficult because of their nonlinearity and infinite-dimensional characteristics. Based on principal component analysis (PCA), a hybrid modeling strategy that consists of a decoupled linear autoregressive exogenous (ARX) model and a nonlinear radial basis function (RBF) neural network model are proposed. The spatial-temporal output is first divided into a few dominant spatial basis functions and finite-dimensional temporal series by PCA. Then, a decoupled ARX model is designed to model the linear dynamics of the dominant modes of the time series. The nonlinear residual part is subsequently parameterized by RBFs, where genetic algorithm is utilized to optimize their hidden layer structure and the parameters. Finally, the nonlinear spatial-temporal dynamic system is obtained after the time/space reconstruction. Simulation results of a catalytic rod and a heat conduction equation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy compared to several other methods.

2018 Prescribed Performance Observer-Based Adaptive Fuzzy Control for Nonstrict-Feedback Stochastic Nonlinear Systems
abstract
This paper focuses on an observer-based adaptive fuzzy control problem for nonstrict-feedback stochastic nonlinear systems with input saturation and prescribed performance. By introducing a mean-value theorem, the obstacle arising from input saturation is overcome. The transient performance of system output is also achieved by means of designing performance function. On the other hand, a variable separation method is used to deal with the difficulty caused by nonstrict-feedback structure. Additionally, fuzzy logic systems are introduced to approximate unknown nonlinear functions. Moreover, an observer is constructed to estimate unknown state variables in the systems. By combining adaptive backstepping control method, an observer-based adaptive fuzzy controller is designed to ensure all signals of the resulting closed-loop system to be bounded, and the output of the system converge to a prescribed area. Finally, two examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

2018 Filtering of T-S Fuzzy Systems With Nonuniform Sampling
abstract
The problem of asynchronous filtering of nonlinear systems is investigated in this paper. To facilitate analysis, a discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model with a fast and uniform period is introduced to approximate continuous nonlinear systems. A slow and nonuniform sampler between system and filter is proposed to overcome the contradictions between fast sampling period and limited bandwidth. The nonuniform sampling interval of sampler is subject to a Markov chain. To make full use of the partial information of sampling interval which is accessible to the filter, the asynchronous filter which is described by the hidden Markov model is introduced to reduce conservatism. By resorting to the augmentation approach and the Lyapunov functional method which depends on nonuniform sampling interval, some sufficient conditions for the existence of asynchronous filer are given to guarantee the stability and dissipativity of the augmented system. The gains of asynchronous filter are given via solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. Two examples are utilized to illustrate the validity of the developed filter design technique where the relationships between optimal dissipative performance indices and the mode synchronization rate are given.

2018 Event-Triggered Control for Consensus of Multiagent Systems With Fixed/Switching Topologies
abstract
In this paper, the leader-following consensus problem of high-order multiagent systems via event-triggered control is discussed. A novel distributed event-triggered communication protocol based on state estimates of neighboring agents is proposed to solve the consensus problem of the leader-following systems. We first investigate the consensus problem in a fixed topology, and then extend to the switching topologies. State estimates in fixed topology are only updated when the trigger condition is satisfied. However, state estimates in switching topologies are renewed with two cases: 1) the communication topology is switched or 2) the trigger condition is satisfied. Clearly, compared to continuous-time interaction, this protocol can greatly reduce the communication load of multiagent networks. Besides, the event-triggering function is constructed based on the local information and a new event-triggered rule is given. Moreover, “Zeno behavior” can be excluded. Finally, we give two examples to validate the feasibility and efficiency of our approach.

A novel control strategy for the output synchronization and L2analysis of network systems is presented in this paper. Nodes in the heterogeneous network have nonidentical dynamics. The designed distributed controller contains reference generator to copy the dynamics of the target trajectory and robust regulator (RG) to achieve synchronization purpose. All RGs adopt the network communication channels to exchange system information. The distributed control law is calculated on static output feedback and ensure outputs of RGs converges to the target trajectory. Meanwhile, each nonidentical node tracks its RG with L2performance index. The controller design strategy is presented in the obtained necessary and sufficient conditions. abstract
This paper studies the state estimator design for periodic neural networks, where stochastic weight matrices B(k) and packet dropouts are considered. The stochastic variables, which may influence each other, are introduced to describe uncertainties of weight matrices. In order to model the time-varying conditions of the communication channel, a Markov chain is employed to study the jumping cases of the stochastic properties of the packet dropouts (i.e., Bernoulli process with jumping means and variances being used to handle the packet dropouts). A state estimator is constructed such that the augmented system is stochastically stable and satisfies the H∞performance. The estimator parameters are derived by means of the linear matrix inequalities method. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

2017 Estimation and LQG Control Over Unreliable Network With Acknowledgment Randomly Lost
abstract
In this paper, we study the state estimation and optimal control [i.e., linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control] problems for networked control systems in which control inputs, observations, and packet acknowledgments (ACKs) are randomly lost. The packet ACK is a signal that is transmitted from the actuator to notice the estimator the occurence of control packet loss. For such systems, we obtain the optimal estimator, which is consisted of exponentially increasing terms. For the solvability of the LQG problem, we come to a conclusion that in general even the optimal LQG control exists, it is impossible and unnecessary to be obtained as its calculation is not only technically difficult but also computationally prohibitive. This issue motivates us to design a suboptimal LQG controller for the underlying systems. We first develop a suboptimal estimator by using the estimator gain in each term of the optimal estimator. Then we derive a suboptimal LQG controller and establish the conditions for stability of the closed-loop systems. Examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed design scheme.

2017 Output Synchronization of Nonidentical Linear Multiagent Systems
abstract
In this paper, the problem of output synchronization is investigated for the heterogeneous network with an uncertain leader. It is assumed that parameter perturbations influence the nonidentical linear agents, whose outputs are controlled to track the output of an uncertain leader. Based on the hierarchical structure of the communication graph, a novel control scheme is proposed to guarantee the output synchronization. As there exist parameter uncertainties in the models of the agents, the internal model principle is used to gain robustness versus plant parameter uncertainties. Furthermore, as the precise model of the leader is also not available, the adaptive control principle is adopted to tune the parameters in the local controllers. The developed new technique is able to simultaneously handle uncertainties in the follower parameters as well as the leader parameters. The agents in the upper layers will be treated as the exosystems of the agents in the lower layers. The local controllers are constructed in a sequential order. It is shown that the output synchronization can be achieved globally asymptotically and locally exponentially. Finally, a simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness and potential of the theoretic results obtained.

2017 Reachable Set Estimation for Markovian Jump Neural Networks With Time-Varying Delays
abstract
In this paper, the reachable set estimation problem is investigated for Markovian jump neural networks (NNs) with time-varying delays and bounded peak disturbances. Our goal is to find a set as small as possible which bounds all the state trajectories of the NNs under zero initial conditions. In the framework of Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem, a newly-found summation inequality combined with the reciprocally convex approach is used to bound the difference of the proposed Lyapunov functional. A new less conservative condition dependent on the upper bound, the lower bound and the delay range of the time delay is established to guarantee that the state trajectories are bounded within an ellipsoid-like set. Then the result is extended to the case with incomplete transition probabilities and a more general condition is derived. Finally, examples including a genetic regulatory network are given to demonstrate the usefulness and the effectiveness of the results obtained in this paper.

2017 Finite-Time Trajectory Tracking Control of a Class of Nonlinear Discrete-Time Systems
abstract
This paper studies how to control the output of a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems, to completely track any given bounded reference trajectories in finite time. For this problem, we develop two kinds of constructive control methods for the total output case and the partial output case, respectively. For each case, the first kind of methods can design the time instant after which the complete trajectory tracking is accomplished, but cannot guarantee the monotonic decrease of the norm of the tracking error before that time instant; the other kind of methods not only can determine when the output trajectory coincides with the reference trajectory, but also can make the norm of the tracking error decrease monotonically before that time instant. For the partial output case, the proposed control methods can guarantee that the rest part of the system output is bounded for all the time. These control methods are feasible no matter whether the dynamic models of these systems are smooth or nonsmooth. Then, the simulation and experiment results prove the feasibility of the proposed methods.

2016 Vision-Based Human Tracking Control of a Wheeled Inverted Pendulum Robot
abstract
In this paper, a vision-based adaptive control is designed for a wheeled inverted pendulum (WIP) robot to track a moving human target by integration of multisensor data. A new algorithm is employed in the system to combine an OptiTrack camera and a Kinect camera, such that more robust and efficient performance can be achieved for human target detection and tracking. Robust adaptive control has been developed for the WIP robot to maintain its balance on two wheels and to follow the human target using visual feedback. Leader-follower control, dynamic balance control and visual tracking are efficiently combined together to achieved desired tracking and balancing performance. Extensive experiment studies have been performed to test the effectiveness of the proposed control strategies.

2016 Trajectory-Tracking Control of Mobile Robot Systems Incorporating Neural-Dynamic Optimized Model Predictive Approach
abstract
Mobile robots tracking a reference trajectory are constrained by the motion limits of their actuators, which impose the requirement for high autonomy driving capabilities in robots. This paper presents a model predictive control (MPC) scheme incorporating neural-dynamic optimization to achieve trajectory tracking of nonholonomic mobile robots (NMRs). By using the derived tracking-error kinematics of nonholonomic robots, the proposed MPC approach is iteratively transformed as a constrained quadratic programming (QP) problem, and then a primal-dual neural network is used to solve this QP problem over a finite receding horizon. The applied neural-dynamic optimization can make the cost function of MPC converge to the exact optimal values of the formulated constrained QP. Compared with the existing fast MPC, which requires repeatedly calculating the Hessian matrix of the Langragian and then solves a quadratic program. The computation complexity reaches O(n3), while the proposed neural-dynamic optimization contains O(n2) operations. Finally, extensive experiments are provided to illustrate that the MPC scheme has an effective performance on a real mobile robot system.

2016 An Experience Information Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization for Global Optimization
abstract
Teaching-learning-based optimization (TLBO) is an intelligent optimization algorithm with relatively fewer parameters that should be determined in updating equations. For solving complex optimization problems, the local optima often appear in the evolution. To decrease the possibility of this phenomenon, a novel TLBO variant (EI-TLBO) with experience information (EI) and differential mutation is presented. In the method, neighborhood information (the best individual NTeacher and the mean individual NMean) of each learner's neighbors is introduced to improve the exploration capability. The EI before the current iteration of each learner is introduced to make him or her accurately judge the learning behavior in future. In addition, instead of duplicate elimination to maintain the diversity of population at the end of each generation in the original TLBO, differential mutation is introduced to maintain the diversity of learners during the iterative learning process. The main contribution of this paper is to improve the convergence speed and accuracy by introducing neighborhood topology structure, EI, and differential mutation. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is evaluated on 46 benchmark functions, among which 27 functions are selected from CEC2013. Its performance is compared with those of six other reported EAs. The results indicate that EI-TLBO algorithm can achieve superior performance.

2015 State-Space Predictive-P Control for Liquid Level in an Industrial Coke Fractionation Tower
abstract
In this study, a predictive-p control system is developed for the level process in an industrial coke fractionation tower. Such processes typically have integrating and nonlinear dynamics causing the performance of conventional control designs and tuning to be poor or to require significant effort in practice. The process model is derived using data of step-response test and control implementation is designed through a new state-space structure. The closed-loop control system contains both the improved predictive control and P control. The performance of the proposed control for regulatory/servo, disturbance rejection, and measurement noise problems are studied and the obtained results show that the control system is of simple implementation with more robustness and provides better responses than conventional predictive control.

2015 Fuzzy-Model-Based Quantized Guaranteed Cost Control of Nonlinear Networked Systems
abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of guaranteed cost control for a class of continuous-time networked control systems based on the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model approach. In this study, network-induced transmission delays and packet dropouts are taken into simultaneous consideration. By the improved Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, a less-conservative delay-dependent condition is proposed for the stability analysis of the resulting closed-loop system. Furthermore, the sufficient condition under which the guaranteed cost controller exists is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities, and the suboptimum solution is obtained by a cone complementarity linearization algorithm. Finally, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

2015 Dissipativity-Based Sampled-Data Fuzzy Control Design and its Application to Truck-Trailer System
abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of dissipative control for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems under time-varying sampling with a known upper bound on the sampling intervals. Based on the time-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach, which makes full use of the available information about the actual sampling pattern, a sufficient condition is established to guarantee the sampled-data systems to be exponentially stable and strictly (Q, S, R)-γ-dissipative. Based on the criterion, a design algorithm for the desired sampled-data controller is proposed. The effectiveness and benefits of the results developed in this paper is demonstrated by a controller design for a truck-trailer system.

2014 Synchronization on Complex Networks of Networks
abstract
In this paper, pinning synchronization on complex networks of networks is investigated, where there are many subnetworks with the interactions among them. The subnetworks and their connections can be regarded as the nodes and interactions of the networks, respectively, which form the networks of networks. In this new setting, the aim is to design pinning controllers on the chosen nodes of each subnetwork so as to reach synchronization behavior. Some synchronization criteria are established for reaching pinning control on networks of networks. Furthermore, the pinning scheme is designed, which shows that the nodes with very low degrees and large degrees are good candidates for applying pinning controllers. Then, the attack and robustness of the pinning scheme are discussed. Finally, a simulation example is presented to verify the theoretical analysis in this paper.

2013 Hybrid modelling of the general middle-sized genetic regulatory networks
abstract
It is well known that theoretical analysis based on the mathematical predictive models of middle-sized genetic regulatory networks are crucial to understand the life at system level for systems biology. Since there doesn't exist an efficient mathematical model for the middle-sized or large-sized biological systems, it is also a challenge to theoretically investigate these networks. To overcome the limitations of the traditional continuous differential equations and discrete Boolean models, this paper aims to introduce a hybrid modelling approach for the general middle-sized genetic regulatory networks. This hybrid modelling method is able to quantitatively investigate the middle-sized or large-sized biological networks by merging the advantages of both continuous differential equation models and Boolean models.

2013 Consensus in Multi-Agent Systems With Second-Order Dynamics and Sampled Data
abstract
This paper studies second-order consensus in multi-agent systems with sampled position and velocity data. A distributed linear consensus protocol with second-order dynamics is first designed, where both sampled position and velocity data are utilized. A necessary and sufficient condition based on the sampling period, the coupling gains, and the spectra of the Laplacian matrix, is established for reaching consensus of the system in this setting. It is found that second-order consensus in such a multi-agent system can be achieved by appropriately choosing the sampling period determined by a polynomial with order three. In particular, second-order consensus cannot be reached for a sufficiently large sampling period while it can be reached for a sufficiently small one under some conditions. Then, the coupling gains are carefully designed under the given network structure and the sampling period. Furthermore, the consensus regions are characterized for the spectra of the Laplacian matrix. On the other hand, second-order consensus in delayed undirected networks with sampled position and velocity data is then discussed. A necessary and sufficient condition is also given, by which appropriate sampling period can be chosen to achieve consensus in multi-agent systems. Finally, simulation examples are given to verify and illustrate the theoretical analysis.

2005 Delay-dependent robust stabilization for uncertain linear system
abstract
The problem of delay-dependent robust stabilization for a class of uncertain linear systems with time-varying delay is investigated. The parameter uncertainty under consideration is norm bounded and possibly time-varying. The time delay considered here is assumed to be size-bounded but otherwise arbitrarily fast time-varying. Based on a special Lyapunov-Krasovakii functional, the delay-dependent stability condition is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities. The delay-independent result can be derived as a particular case for certain values of the tuning parameters. A state-feedback control law is also given such that the resultant closed-loop system is stable for admissible uncertainties. Two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the efficiency of the obtained results.

2003 Robust H∞ filtering for a class of uncertain Lurie time-delay singular systems
abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of the robust H/sub /spl infin// filtering for a class of Lurie singular system with state time-delays, parameters uncertainties and unknown statistics characteristics but limited power disturbance. The purpose is to design a robustly stable filter such that the uncertain Lurie time-delay singular systems are not only regular, impulse free and stable, but also have a prescribed level of H/sub /spl infin// performance for the filtering error dynamics for all admissible uncertainties. A sufficient condition for the existence of such a filter is proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). When a solution to this set of LMIs exists, the parametric matrices of a desired filter can be easily obtained using LMI toolbox. Finally, illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the superiority of the presented method.
