2018 Flipper 2.0: A Pragmatic Dialogue Engine for Embodied Conversational Agents
abstract
We present anew dialogue engine called Flipper 2.0 (Flipper) which aims to help developers of embodied conversational agents (ECAs) to quickly and flexibly create dialogues. Flipper provides a technically stable and robust dialogue management system to integrate with other components of ECAs such as behaviour realisers. We compare Flipper with state-of-the-art dialogue design systems. We describe the details of our dialogue engine, how it handles dialogue management and how it supports the authoring of dialogues. We demonstrate the use of the dialogue engine with examples of design patterns and discuss practical applications. Finally we give recommendations on the cases in which it is beneficial to use Flipper.

2013 Point of interest to region of interest conversion
abstract
Trajectories of people contain a vast amount of information on users' interests and popularity of locations. To obtain this information, the places visited by the owner of the device on such a trajectory need to be recognized. However, the location information on a point of interest (POI) in a database is normally limited to an address and a coordinate pair, rather than a polygon describing its boundaries. A region of interest can be used to intersect trajectories to match trajectories with objects of interest. In the absence of expensive and often not publicly available detailed spatial data like cadastral data, we need to approximate this ROI. In this paper, we present several approaches to approximate the size and shape of ROIs, by integrating data from multiple public sources, a validation technique, and a validation of these approaches against the cadastral data of the city of Enschede, The Netherlands.

1995 Parallel Evaluation of Multi-Join Queries
abstract
A number of execution strategies for parallel evaluation of multi-join queries have been proposed in the literature; their performance was evaluated by simulation. In this paper we give a comparative performance evaluation of four execution strategies by implementing all of them on the same parallel database system, PRISMA/DB. Experiments have been done up to 80 processors. The basic strategy is to first determine an execution schedule with minimum total cost and then parallelize this schedule with one of the four execution strategies. These strategies, coming from the literature, are named: Sequential Parallel, Synchronous Execution, Segmented Right-Deep, and Full Parallel. Based on the experiments clear guidelines are given when to use which strategy.

1992 PRISMA/DB: A Parallel Main Memory Relational DBMS
abstract
PRISMA/DB, a full-fledged parallel, main memory relational database management system (DBMS) is described. PRISMA/DB's high performance is obtained by the use of parallelism for query processing and main memory storage of the entire database. A flexible architecture for experimenting with functionality and performance is obtained using a modular implementation of the system in an object-oriented programming language. The design and implementation of PRISMA/DB are described in detail. A performance evaluation of the system shows that the system is comparable to other state-of-the-art database machines. The prototype implementation of the system runs on a 100-node parallel multiprocessor.>
