2023 Poster Abstract: Mobile Context Logger: Recognizing User's Auditory Environments and Activities using Smartwatch
abstract
Smartwatch, a wrist-worn personal device, can be a mobile platform for information assistant services that provide useful information in daily life, such as context-aware reminders for elderly people. To realize such an assistant service, we have developed a mobile context logger (MCL) that recognizes the user's auditory environments and activities based on auditory and motion information derived from the user's smartwatch. The MCL uses two embedded deep neural network modules: an audio recognition module and a motion recognition module. The modules were trained with open datasets and embedded on a smartwatch to recognize the user's auditory environments and activities. In this paper, we describe an overview of the MCL and discuss the issues towards the mobile context-aware assistant service based on our development.

2013 A sensor data streaming service for visualizing urban public spaces
abstract
For understanding human activities in urban public spaces, we have been developing a sensing platform for visualizing data derived from sensor devices in the spaces. The platform collects sensing data from sensor devices installed in public spaces, and provide a simple communication interface to access the sensor data for client systems. In this demo abstract, we describe a working prototype of a sensor data streaming service for visualizing urban public spaces. The streaming data includes the number of pedestrians, pedestrian flows, and sound pressures of the human activities in the sensing area. As an application of the streaming service, we will show a client system that visualizes the current pedestrian flows in the sensing area with very little delay. The flows are visualized like a view of live camera without pedestrians' appearances. The system has a search interface to retrieve the sensing data in a past period and also visualizes them.

2010 ZigBee based indoor localization with particle filter estimation
abstract
Highly-functional mobile devices, such a smart phone, have appeared. Location based services of the mobile devices are assimilated in a variety of ways. Then, Indoor localization sensor is necessary to access the location based services seamlessly. This paper researched the performance of indoor localization with ZigBee based particle filter. This paper showed this method can localize a resting target within 2.0 meter accuracy and can localize a moving target with an area levels localization. ZigBee based particle filter can be one of some options for location based services in indoor spaces.

2006 Toward Role-based Agent Coordination for Mobile and Ubiquitous Services
abstract
Typically, studies of ubiquitous computing environments focus on context-aware assistance for activities in a closed domain, such as guide systems in museums, and ignore ways of coordinating services between two different service environments. However, it is important to provide them with personalized assistance services that seamlessly coordinate two service environments for the users who move from an open ubiquitous computing environment to other. This study specifically examines seamless personalized services for mobile users and presents a framework of role-based agent coordination to provide services for them. In that framework, personal agents, which are always with the users, play roles assigned by a role manager agent when they participate in new environments. We show a new agent coordination protocol, which is an extension of the contract-net protocol, to perform context-aware role assignments to realize those services.

2004 Location-Mediated Coordination of Web Services in Ubiquitous Computing
abstract
A fundamental issue of human-centered coordinating services in ubiquitous computing is concerned with dynamic service coordination according to users' intentions. How can we coordinate the services to assist the user in receiving a coordinated service to maximize the user's satisfaction in an environment? In order to solve this issue, we have been developing a sort of agent-based coordination framework, called "location-mediated agent coordination," that orchestrates Web services embedded in the real world and Web services on the Internet. In this paper, we show a prototype application of the framework, context-aware information assist services in a museum.

2004 Smart navigation by lightweight components coordination in ubiquitous computing
abstract
We discuss a smart navigation system by route planning which makes active use of spatial semantics. The central concept of the system is coordination of lightweight components as services, such as business process modeling. Our proposed navigation system consists of three main components: a route planner, an object repository, and a space functionality retriever (SFR). The route planner is the component for inquisitions. The object repository deals with real-world information. Then, the SFR deals with knowledge about space represented by XML-based descriptions. Using these components, we realize a smart navigation system that enables a route planner to suggest alternate solutions to end-users. Our final target is to develop advanced location-based information services that surpass conventional ones, thereby realizing an intelligent space.
