2025 NoteIt: A System Converting Instructional Videos to Interactable Notes Through Multimodal Video Understanding
abstract
Users often take notes for instructional videos to access key knowledge later without revisiting long videos.Automated note generation tools enable users to obtain informative notes efficiently. However, notes generated by existing research or off-the-shelf tools fail to preserve the information conveyed in the original videos comprehensively, nor can they satisfy users' expectations for diverse presentation formats and interactive features when using notes digitally. In this work, we present NoteIt, a system, which automatically converts instructional videos to interactable notes using a novel pipeline that faithfully extracts hierarchical structure and multimodal key information from videos. With NoteIt's interface, users can interact with the system to further customize the content and presentation formats of the notes according to their preferences. We conducted both a technical evaluation and a comparison user study (N=36).The solid performance in objective metrics and the positive user feedback demonstrated the effectiveness of the pipeline and the overall usability of NoteIt.

2025 RouteKG: A Knowledge Graph-Based Framework for Route Prediction on Road Networks
abstract
Short-term route prediction on road networks allows us to anticipate the future trajectories of road users, enabling various applications ranging from dynamic traffic control to personalized navigation. Despite recent advances in this area, existing methods focus primarily on learning sequential transition patterns, neglecting the inherent spatial relations in road networks that can affect human routing decisions. To fill this gap, this paper introduces RouteKG, a novel Knowledge Graph-based framework for route prediction. Specifically, we construct a Knowledge Graph on the road network to encode spatial relations, especially moving directions that are crucial for human navigation. Moreover, an n-ary tree-based algorithm is introduced to efficiently generate top-K routes in batch mode, enhancing computational efficiency. To further optimize prediction performance, a rank refinement module is incorporated to fine-tune candidate route rankings. The model performance is evaluated using two real-world vehicle trajectory datasets from two Chinese cities under various practical scenarios. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in accuracy over the baseline methods. We further validate the proposed method by utilizing the pre-trained model as a simulator for real-time traffic flow estimation at the link level. RouteKG has great potential to transform vehicle navigation, traffic management, and a variety of intelligent transportation tasks, playing a crucial role in advancing the core foundation of intelligent and connected urban systems. 2024 RegionPLC: Regional Point-Language Contrastive Learning for Open-World 3D Scene Understanding
abstract
We propose a lightweight and scalable Regional Point-Language Contrastive learning framework, namely RegionPLC, for open-world 3D scene understanding, aiming to identify and recognize open-set objects and categories. Specifically, based on our empirical studies, we introduce a 3D-aware SFusion strategy that fuses 3D vision-language pairs derived from multiple 2D foundation models, yielding high-quality, dense region-level language descriptions without human 3D annotations. Subsequently, we devise a region-aware point-discriminative contrastive learning objective to enable robust and effective 3D learning from dense regional language supervision. We carry out extensive experiments on ScanNet, ScanNet200, and nuScenes datasets, and our model outperforms prior 3D open-world scene understanding approaches by an average of 17.2% and 9.1% for semantic and instance segmentation, respectively, while maintaining greater scalability and lower resource demands. Furthermore, our method has the flexibility to be effortlessly integrated with language models to enable open-ended grounded 3D reasoning without extra task-specific training. Code will be released at github.

2023 CL-NeRF: Continual Learning of Neural Radiance Fields for Evolving Scene Representation
abstract
Existing methods for adapting Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) to scene changes require extensive data capture and model retraining, which is both time-consuming and labor-intensive. In this paper, we tackle the challenge of efficiently adapting NeRFs to real-world scene changes over time using a few new images while retaining the memory of unaltered areas, focusing on the continual learning aspect of NeRFs. To this end, we propose CL-NeRF, which consists of two key components: a lightweight expert adaptor for adapting to new changes and evolving scene representations and a conflict-aware knowledge distillation learning objective for memorizing unchanged parts. We also present a new benchmark for evaluating Continual Learning of NeRFs with comprehensive metrics. Our extensive experiments demonstrate that CL-NeRF can synthesize high-quality novel views of both changed and unchanged regions with high training efficiency, surpassing existing methods in terms of reducing forgetting and adapting to changes. Code and benchmark will be made available.

2023 Leveraging Machine Learning for Disease Diagnoses Based on Wearable Devices: A Survey
abstract
Many countries around the world are facing a shortage of healthcare resources, especially during the post-epidemic era, leading to a dramatic increase in the need for self-detection and self-management of diseases. The popularity of smart wearable devices, such as smartwatches, and the development of machine learning (ML) bring new opportunities for the early detection and management of various prevalent diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes. In this survey, we comprehensively review the articles related to specific diseases or health issues based on small wearable devices and ML. More specifically, we first present an overview of the articles selected and classify them according to their targeted diseases. Then, we summarize their objectives, wearable device and sensor data, ML techniques, and wearing locations. Based on the literature review, we discuss the challenges and propose future directions from the perspectives of privacy concerns, security concerns, transmission latency and reliability, energy consumption, multimodality, multisensor, multidevices, evaluation metrics, explainability, generalization and personalization, social influence, and human factors, aiming to inspire researchers in this field.
