| 2022 | Google Scanned Objects: A High-Quality Dataset of 3D Scanned Household ItemsabstractInteractive 3D simulations have enabled break-throughs in robotics and computer vision, but simulating the broad diversity of environments needed for deep learning requires large corpora of photo-realistic 3D object models. To address this need, we present Google Scanned Objects, an open-source collection of over one thousand 3D-scanned household items released under a Creative Commons license; these models are preprocessed for use in Ignition Gazebo and the Bullet simulation platforms, but are easily adaptable to other simulators. We describe our object scanning and curation pipeline, then provide statistics about the contents of the dataset and its usage. We hope that the diversity, quality, and flexibility of Google Scanned Objects will lead to advances in interactive simulation, synthetic perception, and robotic learning. | 2015 | A Realistic RoboCup Rescue Simulation Based on GazeboabstractSince the first demonstration of the Virtual Robot Competition, USARSim has been used as the simulation interface and environment. The underlying simulation platform, Unreal Engine, has seen three major upgrades (UT2004, UT3 and UDK). These upgrades required a whole new USARSim simulator to be built from scratch. Yet, between those versions the USARSim interface has not been modified, which made USARSim a stable platform for more than 10 years. This stability allowed developers to concentrate on their control and perception algorithms. This paper describes a new prototype of the USARSim interface; implemented as plugin to Gazebo, the simulation environment native to ROS. This plugin would facilitate a shift of the maintenance of the simulation environment to the Open Source Robotics foundation and attract new teams to the Virtual Robot Competition. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves. | 2015 | Inside the Virtual Robotics Challenge: Simulating Real-Time Robotic Disaster ResponseabstractThis paper presents the software framework established to facilitate cloud-hosted robot simulation. The framework addresses the challenges associated with conducting a task-oriented and real-time robot competition, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Virtual Robotics Challenge (VRC), designed to mimic reality. The core of the framework is the Gazebo simulator, a platform to simulate robots, objects, and environments, as well as the enhancements made for the VRC to maintain a high fidelity simulation using a high degree of freedom and multisensor robot. The other major component used is the CloudSim tool, designed to enhance the automation of robotics simulation using existing cloud technologies. The results from the VRC and a discussion are also detailed in this work. Carlos E. Agüero-Durán, Nate Koenig, Ian Chen, Hugo Boyer, Steven C. Peters, John M. Hsu, Brian P.
