| 2025 | A Mutual Information Perspective on Knowledge Graph EmbeddingabstractKnowledge graph embedding techniques have emerged as a critical approach for addressing the issue of missing relations in knowledge graphs. However, existing methods often suffer from limitations, including high intra-group similarity, loss of semantic information, and insufficient inference capability, particularly in complex relation patterns such as 1-N and N-1 relations. To address these challenges, we introduce a novel KGE framework that leverages mutual information maximization to improve the semantic representation of entities and relations. By maximizing the mutual information between different components of triples, such as (h, r) and t, or (r, t) and h, the proposed method improves the model’s ability to preserve semantic dependencies while maintaining the relational structure of the knowledge graph. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, with consistent performance improvements across various baseline models. Additionally, visualization analyses and case studies demonstrate the improved ability of the MI framework to capture complex relation patterns. | 2025 | C3LRSO: A Chinese Corpus for Complex Logical Reasoning in Sentence OrderingabstractSentence ordering is the task of rearranging a set of unordered sentences into a coherent and logically consistent sequence. Recent work has primarily used pre-trained language models, achieving significant success in the task. However, existing sentence ordering corpora are predominantly in English, and comprehensive benchmark datasets for non-English languages are unavailable. Meanwhile, current datasets often insert specific markers into paragraphs, inadvertently making the logical sequence between sentences more apparent and reducing the models’ ability to handle genuinely unordered sentences in real applications. To address these limitations, we develop C3LRSO, a high-quality Chinese sentence ordering dataset that overcomes the aforementioned shortcomings by providing genuinely unordered sentences without artificial segmentation cues. Furthermore, given the outstanding performance of large language models on NLP tasks, we evaluate these models on our dataset for this task. Additionally, we propose a simple yet effective parameter-free approach that outperforms existing methods on this task. Experiments demonstrate the challenging nature of the dataset and the strong performance of our proposed method. These findings highlight the potential for further research in sentence ordering and the development of more robust language models. | 2022 | EarHealth: an earphone-based acoustic otoscope for detection of multiple ear diseases in daily lifeabstractWith the aging of the population and the long-time wearing of earphones, hearing health has gradually emerged as a worldwide health issue. Early detection of hearing health conditions would greatly reduce potential risks with timely medical intervention. This study proposes an earphone-based ear condition monitoring system, named EarHealth, which is low-cost, non-invasive, and easily usable in daily life. It can detect three major hearing health conditions: ruptured eardrum, earwax buildup and blockage, and otitis media. By analyzing the recorded echoes evoked by a chirp sound stimulus, EarHealth recognizes the distinguishable characteristics from ear canal structure and eardrum mobility. EarHealth achieves an accuracy of 82.6% in 92 human subjects, including 27 normal subjects, 22 patients with ruptured eardrum, 25 patients with otitis media, and 18 patients with earwax blockage. EarHealth is the first earphone-based system capable of monitoring hearing health conditions by utilizing the ear canal geometry and eardrum mobility. It is anticipated that EarHealth would provide pervasive and proactive protection for hearing health. Yincheng Jin, Yang Gao 0025, Xiaotao Guo, Jun Wen 0001, Zhengxiong Li, Zhanpeng Jin |

| 2022 | Flow-Controlled and Clock-Distributed Optical Switch and Control SystemabstractSwitching the traffic in the optical domain has been considerably investigated as a future-proof solution to overcome the intrinsic bandwidth bottleneck of electrical switches in data center networks (DCNs). However, due to the lack of fast and scalable optical switch control mechanism, the lack of optical buffers for contention resolution, and the complicated implementation of fast clock and data recovery (CDR), the practical deployment of fast optical switches in data centers (DCs) remains a big challenge. In this work, we develop and experimentally demonstrate for the first time a flow-controlled and clock-distributed optical switch and control system, implementing 43.4 ns optical switch configuration time, less than 3.0E-10 packet loss rate resulting from the packet contention, and 3.1 ns fast CDR time. Experimental results confirm that zero buffer overflow caused packet loss and lower than$3~ \boldsymbol {\mu }\text{s}$server-to-server latency are achieved for network deploying a smaller electrical buffer of 8192 bytes at a traffic load of 0.5. Real servers running the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) traffic generating and monitoring tools are exploited in this switch and control system as well, validating its capability of running practical DCNs services and applications with full TCP bandwidth. | 2015 | The Multimodal Brain Tumor Image Segmentation Benchmark (BRATS)abstractIn this paper we report the set-up and results of the Multimodal Brain Tumor Image Segmentation Benchmark (BRATS) organized in conjunction with the MICCAI 2012 and 2013 conferences. Twenty state-of-the-art tumor segmentation algorithms were applied to a set of 65 multi-contrast MR scans of low- and high-grade glioma patients-manually annotated by up to four raters-and to 65 comparable scans generated using tumor image simulation software. Quantitative evaluations revealed considerable disagreement between the human raters in segmenting various tumor sub-regions (Dice scores in the range 74%-85%), illustrating the difficulty of this task. We found that different algorithms worked best for different sub-regions (reaching performance comparable to human inter-rater variability), but that no single algorithm ranked in the top for all sub-regions simultaneously. Fusing several good algorithms using a hierarchical majority vote yielded segmentations that consistently ranked above all individual algorithms, indicating remaining opportunities for further methodological improvements. The BRATS image data and manual annotations continue to be publicly available through an online evaluation system as an ongoing benchmarking resource.
