| 2024 | Enhanced Accessibility for Mobile Indoor NavigationabstractThe navigation of indoor spaces poses difficult challenges for individuals with visual impairments, as it requires processing of sensory information, dealing with uncertainties, and relying on assistance. To tackle these challenges, we present an indoor navigation app that places importance on accessibility for visually impaired users. Our approach involves a combination of user interviews and an analysis of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. With this approach, we are able to gather invaluable insights and identify design requirements for the development of an indoor navigation app. Based on these insights, we develop an indoor navigation app that prioritizes accessibility, integrating enhanced features to meet the needs of visually impaired users. The usability of the app is being thoroughly evaluated through tests involving both visually impaired and sighted users. Initial feedback has been positive, with users appreciating the inclusive user interface and the usability with a wide range of accessibility tools and Android device settings. | 2018 | 3D Touch-and-Drag: Gesture-Free 3D Manipulation with Finger TrackingabstractIn this study, we define a new modeling technique called 3D touch-and-drag, wherein users select vertices by simply approaching them with a 3D cursor such as a forefinger. Operations are finished by removing the 3D cursor from a line or plane in 3D space. These lines or planes constrain the modeling operations, as is the case when using 3D widgets. User tests demonstrated that there was no significant difference in movement time between moving a sphere along a line using a pinch gesture and using the proposed technique. Since it is easier to select a vertex by just approaching it, compared with performing a pinch gesture, we believe that 3D touch-and-drag is more efficient than current techniques, while being just as precise. | 2017 | SketchTab3d: A Hybrid Sketch Library using Tablets and Immersive 3D EnvironmentsabstractThis paper proposes a 2d sketching tool and an immersive 3d sketch library as an approach to easily create and access documents (i.e. sketches). The sketch library allows users to store, arrange and assemble their own sketches and others' in theoretically unlimited space. A user can get an idea about the general activities of all users since the sketch library is updated whenever changes are made. The system provides 2d and 3d means to access the sketch library. Whereas the 2d interfaces offers a standard dash board, the 3d environment provides unrestricted spatial access to the sketch library. Furthermore, a 2d sketching interfaces is provided in order to create sketch-based documents. Possible application areas are in the fields of engineering, design, public displays, shared knowledge applications, and art. The system was evaluated among eight participants regarding its pragmatic and hedonic qualities as well as searching performance. The results suggest that the users appreciate the particular combination of 2d and 3d technologies in SketchTab3d and requested for improvement in the 3d interaction technique. No significant differences were found in the search performance, however the physical demand during searching was perceived significantly higher in the 3d condition than in the 2d condition.
