2015 Adjustable ultra narrow-band pulse for asynchronous 5G M2M communications
abstract
An adjustable pulse bandwidth single carrier waveform for asynchronous low-cost low-power 5G M2M applications is proposed. The solution uses ultra narrow-band pulse to improve coverage, which is a much more efficient coverage enhancement solution than existing repetition solutions. Frequency localized pulse shaping is used, which allows asynchronous transmission and packing more machine-type devices (MTDs) for the same spectrum resources. In addition, bandwidth of each MTD is configurable based on long term channel quality and system load, which supports higher throughput and lower power consumption. Performance comparison with the repetition solution of 3GPP LTE demonstrates significant gain in terms of number of supported connections.

2015 Universal Receiver for Weighted Circularly Convolved OFDM/OQAM
abstract
The weighted circularly convolved OFDM/OQAM (WCC-OFDM/OQAM), a variant of OFDM/OQAM without time-domain tail overhead, is investigated in a doubly dispersive fading environment. A new receiver is proposed that resolves the self-interference present at a regular WCC-OFDM/OQAM receiver when the channel variations are too fast compared to the signal burst duration. This is achieved by exploiting the channel state information (CSI) available at the receiver to compensate for the channel discontinuity that appears in the receiver's circular operations. The proposed receiver is universal in two regards: first, it performs equally well for a wide range of speeds and modulation and coding schemes (MCSs), and second, it does not require any change to the WCC-OFDM/OQAM signal structure, and thus, is transparent to the transmitter.

2015 Interference and X Networks With Noisy Cooperation and Feedback
abstract
The Gaussian K-user interference and M × K X channels are investigated with no instantaneous channel state information at transmitters (CSIT). First, it is assumed that the CSI is fed back to all nodes after a finite delay (delayed CSIT), and furthermore, the transmitters operate in full-duplex mode, i.e, they can transmit and receive simultaneously. Achievable results on the degrees of freedom (DoFs) of these channels under the above assumption are obtained. It is observed that, in contrast with no CSIT and full CSIT models, when CSIT is delayed, the achievable DoFs for both channels with the full-duplex transmitter cooperation are greater than the available achievable results on their DoF without transmitter cooperation. Then, K-user interference and K × K X channels are considered with output feedback, wherein the channel output of each receiver is causally fed back to its corresponding transmitter. Our achievable results with output feedback demonstrate strict DoF improvements over those with the full-duplex delayed CSIT when K 5 in the K-user interference channel and K > 2 in the K × K X channel. Next, the combination of delayed CSIT and output feedback, known as Shannon feedback, is studied and strictly higher DoFs compared with the output feedback model are achieved in the K-user interference channel when K = 5 or K 6, and in the K × K X channel when K > 2.

2014 Trellis Decoding for Multi-User Faster-Than-Nyquist Transmission
abstract
A K-user downlink transmission is considered, wherein the Nyquist sequences of different users are transmitted with different time offsets so that the entire transmitted signal is deemed a K times faster than Nyquist (FTN) signal. An inter-user interference removal technique is proposed that successively removes the interference using successive trellis update. It is shown by simulations that when the power difference between users is large enough, using only one round of trellis decoding, the system approaches the performance of the successive trellis update.

2014 Layered Interference Networks With Delayed CSI: DoF Scaling With Distributed Transmitters
abstract
The layered interference network is investigated with delayed channel state information (CSI) at all nodes. It is demonstrated how multihopping can be utilized to increase the achievable degrees of freedom (DoF). In particular, a multiphase transmission scheme is proposed for the K-user 2K-hop interference network to systematically exploit the layered structure of the network and delayed CSI to achieve DoF values that scale with K. This result provides the first example of a network with distributed transmitters and delayed CSI whose DoF scales with the number of users.

2013 On degrees of freedom scaling in layered interference networks with delayed CSI
abstract
The multi-hop layered interference network is investigated with delayed knowledge of channel state information (CSI) at all nodes. It is demonstrated how multi-hopping can be utilized to increase the achievable degrees of freedom (DoF). In particular, for the K-user 2K-hop interference network, a multi-phase transmission scheme is proposed which systematically exploits the layered structure of the network and delayed CSI to achieve DoF values which scale with K. As such, this result provides the first example of a network with distributed transmitters and delayed CSI whose DoF scales with the number of users, although sub-linearly.

2013 Weighted circularly convolved filtering in OFDM/OQAM
abstract
A novel technique for removing the edge time transitions, a.k.a. tails, as well as the half symbol offset overhead of OFDM/OQAM signal is proposed. The proposed technique, which is called weighted circular convolution, totally removes the signal overheads, while preserving the real-orthogonality of the prototype filter, and as such, does not incur any ISI/ICI on the demodulated OQAM symbols. It is based on extension of the finite-length OQAM sequence to infinite-length such that the resulting signal is periodic. This periodicity together with special structure of OFDM/OQAM enables one to transmit only the desired overhead-removed portion of signal. This is equivalent to a weighted circular convolution instead of linear convolution in the OFDM/OQAM modulator/demodulator. The spectral sidelobe augmentation due to the sharp edge transitions of the overhead-removed signal is resolved by a weighted time-domain windowing. The proposed overhead-removal technique is applicable to an OFDM/OQAM burst of arbitrary length (either even or odd) and, among other benefits, significantly improves the spectral efficiency especially for short-burst signals.

2013 On the Degrees of Freedom of $K$-User SISO Interference and X Channels With Delayed CSIT
abstract
The K-user single-input single-output (SISO) additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) interference channel and 2×K SISO AWGN X channel are considered, where the transmitters have delayed channel state information (CSI) through noiseless feedback links. Multiphase transmission schemes are proposed for both channels which possess novel ingredients, namely, multiphase partial interference nulling, distributed interference management via user scheduling, and distributed higher order symbol generation. The achieved degree-of-freedom (DoF) values are greater than the best previously known DoFs for both channels with delayed CSI at the transmitters.

2012 Full-duplex transmitter cooperation, feedback, and the degrees of freedom of SISO Gaussian interference and X channels
abstract
The Gaussian single-input single-output (SISO) K-user interference and M × K X channels are investigated in i.i.d. fading environment with no instantaneous channel state information (CSI) at transmitters. First, it is assumed that the CSI is fed back to all nodes after some delay (delayed CSIT), and furthermore, the transmitters operate in full-duplex mode. Achievable results on the degrees of freedom (DoF) of these channels under the above assumption are obtained. Then, achievable DoFs are obtained for the K-user interference and K × K X channels with output feedback and also Shannon feedback, which is a combination of output feedback and delayed CSIT, and compared with the achievable DoFs under the full-duplex delayed CSIT assumption.

2012 On the degrees of freedom of MIMO X channel with delayed CSIT
abstract
The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian X channel in i.i.d. fading environment and with delayed channel state information at transmitters (delayed CSIT) is considered. It is assumed that each transmitter has M antennas and each receiver has N antennas. New achievable results on the sum degrees of freedom (DoF) of this channel are provided and shown to be tight for all possible values of M and N except for 1/2 <; N/M <; 4/3. It is noteworthy that for certain values of M and N, the channel DoF coincides with the DoF of the broadcast channel obtained by assuming perfect transmitter cooperation.

2011 On the degrees of freedom of three-user MIMO broadcast channel with delayed CSIT
abstract
We investigate the three-user MIMO Gaussian broadcast channel with i.i.d. fading and the same number of antennas at each receiver, and with the delayed channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). We obtain achievability results on the degrees of freedom (DoF) of this channel and also show that our achievable DoF is tight for some ranges of transmit-receive antenna ratio. It is observed that when the number of antennas at the transmitter is strictly greater than that at each receiver, the DoF with delayed CSIT lies strictly between the DoF with perfect CSIT and DoF with no CSIT.
