2025 MedKI: Knowledge Dual Injections for Medical Visual Question Answering
abstract
Medical Visual Question Answering (Med VQA) is a challenging task for the sake of diverse medical image and multidisciplinary knowledge. Nowadays, the visual and language pretraining-finetuning framework is widely used in Med VQA task. However, most methods neglect the potential semantics and clinical information of image-text pairs, resulting in an inability to accurately match question semantics with image information. To address this, we propose a method called MedKI with dual injections of clinical and semantic knowledge, which is based on the pretraining and finetuning framework. Specifically, during pretraining, we inject clinical knowledge into the alignment module. Here, clinical knowledge is composed of the structural and the conceptual features that are extracted from the graph structure and entity definitions of the expert domain knowledge graph, respectively. In the finetuning stage, we retrieve similar texts from the pretraining corpus and encode them as semantic knowledge. Then, the knowledge is injected into the semantic knowledge fusion module. Extensive experimental results on both VQA-RAD dataset and SLAKE dataset demonstrate the validity of our proposed method.

2024 Design of a lightweight and easy-to-wear hand glove with multi-modal tactile perception for digital human
abstract
Abstract Within the field of human–computer interaction, data gloves play an essential role in establishing a connection between virtual and physical environments for the realization of digital human. To enhance the credibility of human‐virtual hand interactions, we aim to develop a system incorporating a data glove‐embedded technology. Our proposed system collects a wide range of information (temperature, bending, and pressure of fingers) that arise during natural interactions and afterwards reproduce them within the virtual environment. Furthermore, we implement a novel traversal polling technique to facilitate the streamlined aggregation of multi‐channel sensors. This mitigates the hardware complexity of the embedded system. The experimental results indicate that the data glove demonstrates a high degree of precision in acquiring real‐time hand interaction information, as well as effectively displaying hand posture in real‐time using Unity3D. The data glove's lightweight and compact design facilitates its versatile utilization in virtual reality interactions.

2022 MUFFLE: prototype of light-weight haptic augmented pressure interface for on-fly neurorehabilitation
abstract
In this demonstration, we suggest lightweight haptic communications from the context of remote neurorehabilitation. In particular, we collect tactile data from pressure sensors attached to the human hand and design a classifier to determine the objects that an individual holds or grasps. Finally, we have implemented the proposed system on Raspberry Pi and demonstrated a personalized classification while rendering the haptic feedback in a virtual perception.

2022 GUFFLE: A Design of Lightweight Pressure Interface for Near-to-Real-Time Perceptual Tactile Sensation
abstract
In this demonstration, we present a wearable haptic system to realize the perceptual illusion in a virtual environment. We collect the pressure data from sensors attached with the fingertip, and after passing through a classifier, we render the sensation of pressure. We mainly focus on designing a lightweight and wearable haptic interface with fast rendering. At last, we implement the proposed interface on Raspberry Pi and present preliminary results with various test objects.

2021 Deep Neural Network With Consistency Regularization of Multi-Output Channels for Improved Tumor Detection and Delineation
abstract
Deep learning is becoming an indispensable tool for imaging applications, such as image segmentation, classification, and detection. In this work, we reformulate a standard deep learning problem into a new neural network architecture with multi-output channels, which reflects different facets of the objective, and apply the deep neural network to improve the performance of image segmentation. By adding one or more interrelated auxiliary-output channels, we impose an effective consistency regularization for the main task of pixelated classification (i.e., image segmentation). Specifically, multi-output-channel consistency regularization is realized by residual learning via additive paths that connect main-output channel and auxiliary-output channels in the network. The method is evaluated on the detection and delineation of lung and liver tumors with public data. The results clearly show that multi-output-channel consistency implemented by residual learning improves the standard deep neural network. The proposed framework is quite broad and should find widespread applications in various deep learning problems.

2014 Iterative Multi-View Hashing for Cross Media Indexing
abstract
Cross media retrieval engines have gained massive popularity with rapid development of the Internet. Users may perform queries in a corpus consisting of audio, video, and textual information. To make such systems practically possible for large mount of multimedia data, two critical issues must be carefully considered: (a) reduce the storage as much as possible; (b) model the relationship of the heterogeneous media data. Recently academic community have proved that encoding the data into compact binary codes can drastically reduce the storage and computational cost. However, it is still unclear how to integrate multiple information sources properly into the binary code encoding scheme.
