| 2004 | High Sensitive Micro Touch Sensor with Piezoelectric Thin Film for Micro Pipetting Works under MicroscopeabstractIsolation and separation of the target microbe is quite important. We propose a new touch sensor for separation of the target microbe on the plate using a micromanipulator with the glass pipette. Principle of this touch sensor is based on detection of mechanical impedance change after contact of the vibrating pipette tip with the plate. We improved the fixation method of the sensor with the pipette as well as electrode design of the sensor. We performed the FEM analysis to improve sensitivity of this sensor. The prototype sensor has high sensitivity and high rigidity and is excellent in durability. This sensor is sensitive enough to protect the fragile pipette tip from abrupt collision. Thus, separation task of the microbe by the micromanipulator under the microscope is improved. Fumihito Arai, Kouhei Motoo, Toshio Fukuda, Tohoru Katsuragi |

| 2004 | Single Cell Trap on a Chip using In-situ Microfabrication with Photo-crosslinkable Resin and Thermal GelationabstractHandling of microorganisms is of great interest in biology and biotechnology. Single cell capture technology has been demonstrated in our previous work with thermal gelation material and micro fluidic devise. This paper extends the system by local flow rate control to stabilize the trap with in-situ fabrication by photo-crosslinkable resin. Target cells are captured by gel and enclosed with the micro-structure. The cells, therefore, are protected from high-speed-channel flow or disturbances. This system succeeds in the separation and continuous culture of yeast cells, reaction and monitoring of the cultured cells stably by fluorescence staining in situ on a chip. | 2003 | Novel Touch Sensor with Piezoelectric Thin Film for Microbial SeparationabstractIsolation and separation of the target microbe is quite important. We propose a new touch sensor to get contact information that is needed for separation of the target microbe by the pipette. This sensor is sensitive enough to protect the fragile pipette tip from abrupt collision. Using this sensor, we developed a novel screening system for separation of target microorganisms from the randomly distributed samples on the plate by the local viscosity control of the thermosensitive hydro gel.
