2023 Reviving Dead Links on the Web with Fable
abstract
The web is littered with millions of links which previously worked but no longer do. When users encounter any such broken link, they resort to looking up an archived copy of the linked page. But, for a sizeable fraction of these broken links, no archived copies exist. Even if a copy exists, it often poorly approximates the original page, e.g., any functionality on the page which requires the client browser to communicate with the page's backend servers will not work, and even the latest copy will be missing updates made to the page's content after that copy was captured.

2017 Vroom: Accelerating the Mobile Web with Server-Aided Dependency Resolution
abstract
The existing slowness of the web on mobile devices frustrates users and hurts the revenue of website providers. Prior studies have attributed high page load times to dependencies within the page load process: network latency in fetching a resource delays its processing, which in turn delays when dependent resources can be discovered and fetched.

2014 Demonstration of the Myria big data management service
abstract
In this demonstration, we will showcase Myria, our novel cloud service for big data management and analytics designed to improve productivity. Myria's goal is for users to simply upload their data and for the system to help them be self-sufficient data science experts on their data -- self-serve analytics. Using a web browser, Myria users can upload data, author efficient queries to process and explore the data, and debug correctness and performance issues. Myria queries are executed on a scalable, parallel cluster that uses both state-of-the-art and novel methods for distributed query processing. Our interactive demonstration will guide visitors through an exploration of several key Myria features by interfacing with the live system to analyze big datasets over the web.

2012 Tapulator: a non-visual calculator using natural prefix-free codes
abstract
A new non-visual method of numeric entry into a smartphone is designed, implemented, and tested. Users tap the smartphone screen with one to three fingers or swipe the screen in order to enter numbers. No buttons are used--only simple, easy-to-remember gestures. A preliminary valuation with sighted users compares the method to a standard accessible numeric keyboard with a VoiceOver-like screen reader interface for non-visual entry. We found that users entered numbers faster and with higher accuracy with our number entry method than with a VoiceOver-like interface, showing there is potential for use among blind people as well. The Tapulator, a complete calculator based on this non-visual numeric entry that uses simple gestures for arithmetic operations and other calculator actions is described.
