2024 Balancing Time and Energy Efficiency by Sizing Clusters: A New Data Collection Scheme in UAV-Aided Large-Scale Internet of Things
abstract
Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-aided large-scale Internet of Things (UAV-LIoT) are widely used but lack a balanced data collection (DC) scheme. To address this, we propose DC- nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA), a new DC scheme that combines machine learning clustering with NOMA. We introduce an optimization algorithm for peak density clustering and a new LIoT clustering method. Our approach dynamically adjusts cluster size and formulates the energy-time efficiency problem as a tradeoff between energy minimization and data rate maximization. We propose a heuristic algorithm based on NOMA and an intracluster DC protocol. Experimental results show that DC- NOMA achieves balanced DC time, energy efficiency, load balance, and network lifespan extension, outperforming its benchmarks.

2021 Securing top-k query processing in two-tiered sensor networks
abstract
Integrity and privacy are two important secure matrices in cyber security. Due to the limited resources and computing capability of the sensor nodes, it is challenging to simultaneously satisfy these two matrices for top-k querying in two-tiered sensor networks. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a weight-bind-based secure top-k query processing scheme (WBB-TQ), which utilises both the order-preserving symmetric encryption scheme (OPES) and the pairwise-key encryption technique to ensure data privacy in top-k querying. Since OPES can keep the size orders of the sensed data items unchanged before and after they are encrypted, the upper-layer storage nodes in the network can process top-k queries without knowing the exact values of the sensed data items. To guarantee the completeness of query results, we propose a novel method to establish chaining relationship among all the data items generated by each sensor node. By checking whether the relationship holds on not, Sink can find out whether adversaries drop and/or tamper with part or all of the qualified top-k data items in the query results. Theoretical analyses show that WBB-TQ can preserve data integrity and privacy of the top-k query results. Extensive simulation results further demonstrate that, WBB-TQ incurs very low computational and communication cost in securing top-k querying.

2021 STQ-SCS: An Efficient and Secure Scheme for Fine-Grained Spatial-Temporal Top- k Query in Fog-Based Mobile Sensor-Cloud Systems
abstract
With the emergence of the fog computing and the sensor-cloud computing paradigms, end users can retrieve the desired sensory data generated by any wireless sensor network (WSN) in a fog-based sensor-cloud system transparently. However, the fog nodes and the cloud servers may suffer from many kinds of attacks on the Internet and become semitrusted, which threatens the security of query processing in the system. In this paper, we investigated the problem of secure, fine-grained spatial-temporal Top- k query in fog-based mobile sensor-cloud systems (FMSCSs) and proposed a novel scheme named STQ-SCS to tackle the problem based on the virtual grid construction and the size-order encryption-binding techniques. STQ-SCS can preserve the privacy of the sensed data items and their scores and make end users verify the completeness of the query results of fine-grained spatial-temporal Top- k queries with a 100% successful rate even if the fog nodes and the cloud servers are not totally trustworthy. Besides the good security performance, simulation results indicate that STQ-SCS is also an efficient scheme that incurs a much lower communication cost than the state-of-the-art schemes on securing fine-grained spatial-temporal Top- k query in FMSCSs.

2019 SLS-STQ: A Novel Scheme for Securing Spatial-Temporal Top-k Queries in TWSNs-Based Edge Computing Systems
abstract
A novel network paradigm of edge computing, namely, two-tiered wireless sensor networks (TWSNs), has been proposed by researchers in recent years for its high scalability and robustness. However, in the TWSNs-based edge computing systems, the storage nodes, which are located at the upper layer of the systems, are prone to be attacked by adversaries because they play a key role in bridging sensor nodes and Sink, which may lead to the disclosure of all the data stored on them as well as some other potentially devastating results. In this article, we study the integrity-and-privacy preservation problem for spatial- temporal Top-k queries in the TWSNs-based edge computing systems and propose a sequence-encryption-based lightweight scheme named sequence-encryption-based lightweight scheme for securing spatial-temporal Top-k queries (SLS-STQ) to solve the problem. In SLS-STQ, three algorithms, namely, the report preparation algorithm, the query processing algorithm, and the integrity verification algorithm, are designed for the sensor nodes, the storage nodes, and Sink, respectively. The theoretical analysis shows that SLS-STQ is able to achieve both integrity validation and privacy preservation with low computational complexity, and the simulation results show that SLS-STQ is much more efficient than the related state-of-the-art schemes.

2017 Mastrovito Form of Non-Recursive Karatsuba Multiplier for All Trinomials
abstract
We present a new type of bit-parallel non-recursive Karatsuba multiplier over GF(2m) generated by an arbitrary irreducible trinomial. This design effectively exploits Mastrovito approach and shifted polynomial basis (SPB) to reduce the time complexity and Karatsuba algorithm to reduce its space complexity. We show that this type of multiplier is only one TX slower than the fastest bit-parallel multiplier for all trinomials, where TX is the delay of one 2-input XOR gate. Meanwhile, its space complexity is roughly 3/4 of those multipliers. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that our scheme has reached such a time delay bound. This result outperforms previously proposed non-recursive Karatsuba multipliers.
