| 2020 | Editorial on Innovative Network Systems and Applications together with the Conference on Information Systems Innovations for Community ServicesabstractThe purpose of this special issue is to assemble a selection of best research articles that were presented within the 6th International Conference on Innovative Network Systems and Applications (iNetSApp'18), 1 which was organized under the Federated Conference on Computer Science and Information Systems 2018 (FedCSIS'18), 2 which was held in the Polish city Pozna ń.According to the FedCSIS policy, 23% acceptance rate was kept in all regular paper submissions with the help of the well-structured and experienced conference program committee.Since only the little amount of papers met the quality for the publication in this special issue, other selected best papers from the 18th International Conference on Innovations for Community Services (I4CS 2018), 3 which was held in Žilina, Slovakia, were selected for the publication. For this special issue, only the papers with best review score were selected, thus the quality of the CPE series can be conserved. This special issue focuses on different applications and algorithm developments in the area of modern network systems which encompass a wide range of solutions and technologies, including wireless and wired networks, network systems, services, and applications. The scope of this special issue is broad, aiming at different results in numerous active research areas oriented toward various technical, scientific, and social aspects of network systems and applications. This is supplied by the recent advances in the theory and practice in a wide range of aspects of Internet community services, especially of how community services can be used in many areas and how they have been deployed. The authors in Reference 4 focused on the improvements of the convergence time in IP networks. They introduced a new kind of IP fast re-route (IPFRR) mechanism called the multicast repair (MREP) IPFRR mechanism, which provides an advanced fast reroute technique for Internet service providers' core networks. The M-REP IPFRR mechanism is based on IP multicast and utilizes Protocol Independent Multicast-Dense Mode with the modification of an internal reverse path forwarding check. The M-REP IPFRR mechanism does not depend on any particular routing protocol ORCID Michal Hodon, Janusz Furtak, Günter Fahrnberger, Ali Ismail Awad |

| 2019 | Outlier Removal for the Reliable Condition Monitoring of Telecommunication ServicesabstractCustomer contentment plays an essential (if not the most important) role for the continuation and development of business relations. In this context, the functioning of goods and services acts as the crucial influencing factor. In the case of services, their providers willingly deploy CMSs (Condition Monitoring Systems) for the continuous CM (Condition Monitoring) of the service availability by means of various KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). A CMS must red-flag an abnormal condition. This happens if the recent value(s) of a KPI exceed(s) a predetermined threshold for a certain period. The pertinent literature contains a multiplicity of ways for automatic threshold computation, including a particular one for telecommunication services with time-varying load characteristic. Regrettably, the latter lacks in (distribution-independent) outlier extinction. Thus, this scholarly piece bridges this gap by applying an outlier detection algorithm based upon Walsh's nonparametric tests to a KPI history, removing the identified outliers, and comparing Pukelsheim's three sigma rule and the minimum or maximum value of the outlier-free array for threshold evaluation. The result of a corresponding field test assesses the reliability of the suggested methodology. Günter Fahrnberger |

| 2014 | SafeChat: A tool to shield children's communication from explicit messagesabstractInternet, on one hand, is a primary foundation for knowledge acquisition in a child's life. On the other hand, there are many growing exploits over children. Motivated by the rising need to shield children's communication channels from obnoxious sources, this paper proposes a framework named SafeChat. SafeChat is the result of aggregating the context based authentication features of 4-CBAF model and the message encryption features from demonstrated SecureString 2.0. SafeChat intercepts children's communication and eradicates explicit words coming into the children's devices. SafeChat filters explicit words without recognizing their meaning. Such an approach hardens the system against malicious attacks. Furthermore, it secures the communication channels against possible man-in-the-middle attacks by employing an encryption mechanism. In addition, it encompasses the tools to authenticate and authorize communications and allows parents to monitor children communication channels in case an intervention is desirable. SafeChat supports to extend it to incorporate essential features including a facility to censor users through building a social network. Such a social network would allow other children to learn about the users with potential threats. Günter Fahrnberger, Deveeshree Nayak, Martha VenkataSwamy, Srini Ramaswamy |

| 2014 | SIMS: A Comprehensive Approach for a Secure Instant Messaging SifterabstractInstant messaging (IM) stands for a visual mode of communication with the chance of real time responses but without (needed or wished) face-to-face contacts. In particular, youngsters prefer instant messengers to kill time if they are bored and nothing else within range interests them. Harmfully, they may get in touch with inappropriate language there. Much worse, their habitation in such virtual venues allures child molesters as well. Even chatting majors may be sighted and hassled to obtain exploitable private data from them. This paper aids by evaluating a comprehensive threat model for censored IM traffic in order to draft a security policy for IM clients, transmission facilities and IM platforms with a bulk of desired protection properties. Finally, an innovative IM architecture kit becomes conceptually introduced that meets all advised requirements and therefore mitigates the threats. It contains a secure IM filter that guarantees not only authenticity, integrity, privacy and resilience but also prevention of abusive language, cyber bullying, molestation and others exploits.
