2026 Exploring Context-Free Opinion Grammar for Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis
abstract
Utilizing pre-trained generative models for sentiment element extraction has recently significantly enhanced aspect-based sentiment analysis benchmarks. Nonetheless, these models have two significant drawbacks: 1) high-computational cost in both the inference time and hardware requirement. 2) Lack of explicit modeling as they model the connections between sentiment elements with fragile natural or notational language target sequence. To overcome these challenges, we present a novel opinion tree parsing model designed to swiftly parse sentiment elements from an opinion tree. This approach not only accelerates the process but also explicitly unveils a more comprehensive and fully articulated aspect-level sentiment structure. Our method begins by introducing a pioneering context-free opinion grammar to standardize the opinion tree structure. Subsequently, we leverage a neural chart-based opinion tree parser to thoroughly explore the interconnections among sentiment elements and parse them into a structured opinion tree. Extensive experiments underscore the effectiveness of our proposed model and the capability of the opinion tree parser, particularly when coupled with the introduced context-free opinion grammar. Crucially, the results confirm the superior speed of our model compared to the SOTA baselines.

2025 DriveDreamer-2: LLM-Enhanced World Models for Diverse Driving Video Generation
abstract
World models have demonstrated superiority in autonomous driving, particularly in the generation of multi-view driving videos. However, significant challenges still exist in generating customized driving videos. In this paper, we propose DriveDreamer-2, which incorporates a Large Language Model (LLM) to facilitate the creation of user-defined driving videos. Specifically, a trajectory generation function library is developed to produce trajectories that conform to user descriptions. Subsequently, an HDMap generator is designed to learn the mapping from trajectories to road structures. Ultimately, we propose the Unified Multi-View Model (UniMVM) to enhance temporal and spatial coherence in the generated multi-view driving videos. To the best of our knowledge, DriveDreamer-2 is the first world model to generate customized driving videos, and it can generate uncommon driving videos (e.g., vehicles abruptly cut in) in a user-friendly manner. Besides, experimental results demonstrate that the generated videos enhance the training of driving perception methods (e.g., 3D detection and tracking). Furthermore, video generation quality of DriveDreamer-2 surpasses other state-of-the-art methods, showcasing FID and FVD scores of 11.2 and 55.7, representing relative improvements of ~30% and ~50%.

2025 Revisiting Classical Chinese Event Extraction with Ancient Literature Information
abstract
The research on classical Chinese event extraction trends to directly graft the complex modeling from English or modern Chinese works, neglecting the utilization of the unique characteristic of this language. We argue that, compared with grafting the sophisticated methods from other languages, focusing on classical Chinese’s inimitable source of Ancient Literature could provide us with extra and comprehensive semantics in event extraction. Motivated by this, we propose a Literary Vision-Language Model (VLM) for classical Chinese event extraction, integrating with literature annotations, historical background and character glyph to capture the inner- and outer-context information from the sequence. Extensive experiments build a new state-of-the-art performance in the GuwenEE, CHED datasets, which underscores the effectiveness of our proposed VLM, and more importantly, these unique features can be obtained precisely at nearly zero cost.

2025 Learning to Look at the Other Side: A Semantic Probing Study of Word Embeddings in LLMs with Enabled Bidirectional Attention
abstract
Autoregressive Large Language Models (LLMs) demonstrate exceptional performance in language understanding and generation. However, their application in text embedding tasks has been relatively slow, along with the analysis of their semantic representation in probing tasks, due to the constraints of the unidirectional attention mechanism. This paper aims to explore whether such constraints can be overcome by enabling bidirectional attention in LLMs. We tested different variants of the Llama architecture through additional training steps, progressively enabling bidirectional attention and unsupervised/supervised contrastive learning. Our results show that bidirectional attention improves the LLMs’ ability to represent subsequent context but weakens their utilization of preceding context, while contrastive learning training can help to maintain both abilities.

2025 CalligraphicOCR for Chinese Calligraphy Recognition
abstract
With thousand years of history, calligraphy serve as one of the representative symbols of Chinese culture. Increasing works try to digitize calligraphy by recognizing the context of calligraphy for better preservation and propagation. However, previous works stick to isolated single character recognition, not only requires unpractical manual splitting into characters, but also abandon the enriched context information that could be supplementary. To this end, we construct the pioneering end-to-end calligraphy recognition benchmark dataset, this dataset is challenging due to both the visual variations such as different writing styles and the textual understanding such as the domain shift in semantics. We further propose CalligraphicOCR (COCR) equipped with calligraphic image augmentation and action-based corrector targeted at the challenging root of this setting. Experiments demonstrate the advantage of our proposed model over cutting-edge baselines, underscoring the necessity of introducing this new setting, thereby facilitating a solid precondition for protecting and propagating the already scarce resources.

2025 DynImg: Key Frames with Visual Prompts are Good Representation for Multi-Modal Video Understanding
abstract
In recent years, the introduction of Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) into video understanding tasks has become increasingly prevalent. However, how to effectively integrate temporal information remains a critical research focus. Traditional approaches treat spatial and temporal information separately. Due to issues like motion blur, it is challenging to accurately represent the spatial information of rapidly moving objects. This can lead to temporally important regions being underemphasized during spatial feature extraction, which in turn hinders accurate spatio-temporal interaction and video understanding. To address this limitation, we propose an innovative video representation method called Dynamic-Image (DynImg). Specifically, we introduce a set of non-key frames as temporal prompts to highlight the spatial areas containing fast-moving objects. During the process of visual feature extraction, these prompts guide the model to pay additional attention to the fine-grained spatial features corresponding to these regions. Moreover, to maintain the correct sequence for DynImg, we employ a corresponding 4D video Rotary Position Embedding. This retains both the temporal and spatial adjacency of DynImg, helping MLLM understand the spatio-temporal order within this combined format. Experimental evaluations reveal that DynImg surpasses the state-of-the-art methods by approximately 2% across multiple video understanding benchmarks, proving the effectiveness of our temporal prompts in enhancing video comprehension.

2025 Aligned Better, Listen Better for Audio-Visual Large Language Models
abstract
Audio is essential for multimodal video understanding. On the one hand, video inherently contains audio, which supplies complementary information to vision. Besides, video large language models (Video-LLMs) can encounter many audio-centric settings. However, existing Video-LLMs and Audio-Visual Large Language Models (AV-LLMs) exhibit deficiencies in exploiting audio information, leading to weak understanding and hallucinations. To solve the issues, we delve into the model architecture and dataset. (1) From the architectural perspective, we propose a fine-grained AV-LLM, namely Dolphin. The concurrent alignment of audio and visual modalities in both temporal and spatial dimensions ensures a comprehensive and accurate understanding of videos. Specifically, we devise an audio-visual multi-scale adapter for multi-scale information aggregation, which achieves spatial alignment. For temporal alignment, we propose audio-visual interleaved merging. (2) From the dataset perspective, we curate an audio-visual caption \& instruction-tuning dataset, called AVU. It comprises 5.2 million diverse, open-ended data tuples (video, audio, question, answer) and introduces a novel data partitioning strategy. Extensive experiments show our model not only achieves remarkable performance in audio-visual understanding, but also mitigates potential hallucinations.

2025 UFO: A Unified Approach to Fine-grained Visual Perception via Open-ended Language Interface
abstract
Generalist models have achieved remarkable success in both language and vision-language tasks, showcasing the potential of unified modeling. However, effectively integrating fine-grained perception tasks like detection and segmentation into these models remains a significant challenge. This is primarily because these tasks often rely heavily on task-specific designs and architectures that can complicate the modeling process. To address this challenge, we present UFO, a framework that unifies fine-grained visual perception tasks through an open-ended language interface. By transforming all perception targets into the language space, UFO unifies object-level detection, pixel-level segmentation, and image-level vision-language tasks into a single model. Additionally, we introduce a novel embedding retrieval approach that relies solely on the language interface to support segmentation tasks. Our framework bridges the gap between fine-grained perception and vision-language tasks, significantly simplifying architectural design and training strategies while achieving comparable or superior performance to methods with intricate task-specific designs. After multi-task training on five standard visual perception datasets, UFO outperforms the previous state-of-the-art generalist models by 12.3 mAP on COCO instance segmentation and 3.3 mIoU on ADE20K semantic segmentation. Furthermore, our method seamlessly integrates with existing MLLMs, effectively combining fine-grained perception capabilities with their advanced language abilities, thereby achieving superior performance on the challenging reasoning segmentation. 2025 EgoVid-5M: A Large-Scale Video-Action Dataset for Egocentric Videos Generation
abstract
Video generation has emerged as a promising tool for world simulation, leveraging visual data to replicate real-world environments. Within this context, egocentric video generation, which centers on the human perspective, holds significant potential for enhancing applications in virtual reality, augmented reality, and gaming. However, the generation of egocentric videos presents substantial challenges due to the dynamic nature of first-person viewpoints, the intricate diversity of actions, and the complex variety of scenes encountered. Existing datasets are inadequate for addressing these challenges effectively. To bridge this gap, we present EgoVid-5M, the first high-quality dataset specifically curated for egocentric video generation. EgoVid-5M encompasses over 5 million egocentric video clips and is enriched with detailed action annotations, including fine-grained kinematic control and high-level textual descriptions. To ensure the integrity and usability of the dataset, we implement a sophisticated data cleansing pipeline designed to maintain frame consistency, action coherence, and motion smoothness under egocentric conditions. Furthermore, we introduce EgoDreamer, which is capable of generating egocentric videos driven simultaneously by action descriptions and kinematic control signals. The EgoVid-5M dataset, associated action annotations, and all data cleansing metadata will be released for the advancement of research in egocentric video generation.

2024 Relevant Intrinsic Feature Enhancement Network for Few-Shot Semantic Segmentation
abstract
For few-shot semantic segmentation, the primary task is to extract class-specific intrinsic information from limited labeled data. However, the semantic ambiguity and inter-class similarity of previous methods limit the accuracy of pixel-level foreground-background classification. To alleviate these issues, we propose the Relevant Intrinsic Feature Enhancement Network (RiFeNet). To improve the semantic consistency of foreground instances, we propose an unlabeled branch as an efficient data utilization method, which teaches the model how to extract intrinsic features robust to intra-class differences. Notably, during testing, the proposed unlabeled branch is excluded without extra unlabeled data and computation. Furthermore, we extend the inter-class variability between foreground and background by proposing a novel multi-level prototype generation and interaction module. The different-grained complementarity between global and local prototypes allows for better distinction between similar categories. The qualitative and quantitative performance of RiFeNet surpasses the state-of-the-art methods on PASCAL-5i and COCO benchmarks.

2024 CrossMAE: Cross-Modality Masked Autoencoders for Region-Aware Audio-Visual Pre-Training
abstract
Learning joint and coordinated features across modalities is essential for many audio-visual tasks. Existing pre-training methods primarily focus on global information, neglecting fine-grained features and positions, leading to suboptimal performance in dense prediction tasks. To address this issue, we take a further step towards region-aware audio-visual pre-training and propose CrossMAE, which excels in Cross-modality interaction and region alignment. Specifically, we devise two masked autoencoding (MAE) pretext tasks at both pixel and embedding levels, namely Cross-Conditioned Reconstruction and Cross-Embedding Reconstruction. Taking the visual modality as an example (the same goes for audio), in Cross-Conditioned Reconstruction, the visual modality reconstructs the input image pixels conditioned on audio Attentive Tokens. As for the more challenging Cross-Embedding Reconstruction, unmasked visual tokens reconstruct complete audio features under the guidance of Learnable Queries implying positional information, which effectively enhances the interaction between modalities and exploits fine-grained semantics. Experimental results demonstrate that CrossMAE achieves state-of-the-art performance not only in classification and retrieval, but also in dense prediction tasks. Furthermore, we dive into the mechanism of modal interaction and region alignment of CrossMAE, highlighting the effectiveness of the proposed components.

2022 Aspect-based Sentiment Analysis with Opinion Tree Generation
abstract
Existing studies usually extract these sentiment elements by decomposing the complex structure prediction task into multiple subtasks. Despite their effectiveness, these methods ignore the semantic structure in ABSA problems and require extensive task-specific designs. In this study, we introduce an Opinion Tree Generation task, which aims to jointly detect all sentiment elements in a tree. We believe that the opinion tree can reveal a more comprehensive and complete aspect-level sentiment structure. Furthermore, we propose a pre-trained model to integrate both syntax and semantic features for opinion tree generation. On one hand, a pre-trained model with large-scale unlabeled data is important for the tree generation model. On the other hand, the syntax and semantic features are very effective for forming the opinion tree structure. Extensive experiments show the superiority of our proposed method. The results also validate the tree structure is effective to generate sentimental elements.

2021 Building Interpretable Interaction Trees for Deep NLP Models
abstract
This paper proposes a method to disentangle and quantify interactions among words that are encoded inside a DNN for natural language processing. We construct a tree to encode salient interactions extracted by the DNN. Six metrics are proposed to analyze properties of interactions between constituents in a sentence. The interaction is defined based on Shapley values of words, which are considered as an unbiased estimation of word contributions to the network prediction. Our method is used to quantify word interactions encoded inside the BERT, ELMo, LSTM, CNN, and Transformer networks. Experimental results have provided a new perspective to understand these DNNs, and have demonstrated the effectiveness of our method.
