1994 The impact of vehicular scattering on mobile communications
abstract
Mobile radio system design is frequently based on simple models of actual radio transmission channels. Existing models represent the effect of stationary objects on channel behaviour, but overlook possible contributions from moving vehicles. This deficiency is addressed in the present paper and electromagnetic scattering from moving vehicles is shown to be a significant mobile radio propagation mechanism. Vehicular scattering trebles the range of frequencies required to characterise channel behaviour, and necessitates revised guidelines for radio receiver design. Quantitative results are presented.>

1994 CDMA cellular radio trials
abstract
An Australian CDMA cellular radio technology trial is reviewed. Results from suburban radio experiments are discussed in the context of network coverage, capacity and soft handover operation, and practical performance is assessed. Practical CDMA network design requirements are also identified.>

1985 Envelope Detection of Binary VSB Data Signals
abstract
The performance of vestigial-sideband data transmission systems employing envelope detection is considered in the context of broad-band local area networks (BLAN's). General results for horizontal and vertical eye opening are presented and noise performance is assessed for three systems of particular interest. It is concluded that this data transmission scheme is suitable for BLAN's.

1981 Aspects of PCM Regenerator Design for Crosstalk Limited Environments
abstract
The design of PCM regenerators for crosstalk limited environments is considered. A Regenerator Noise Figure is introduced and used to compare various regenerator equalizer designs. An optimum equalizer is derived to provide a basis for the comparison. The major conclusion is that cosine rolloff equalizers provide better crosstalk tolerance than Gaussian equalizers and that with particular rolloff factors they achieve near optimum performance. AMI, HDB3, and Class 4 partial response line codes are considered and results placed into practical context by examining regenerator eye diagrams.

1980 A General Class of PAM Equalizers
abstract
This correspondence outlines a new and general class of cost functions which are applicable to adaptive PAM equalizer design. The new functions are shown to exhibit many of the features of well-known functions while promising lower receiver error probabilites. Further work in the area of relating cost functions to equalizer adaption rates is suggested.
