2024 A Robot Ground Medium Classification Algorithm Based on Feature Fusion and Adaptive Spatio-Temporal Cascade Networks
abstract
Abstract With technological advancements and scientific progress, mobile robots have found widespread applications across various fields. To enable robots to perform tasks safely and effectively in diverse and unknown environments, this paper proposes a ground medium classification algorithm for robots based on feature fusion and an adaptive spatio-temporal cascade network. Specifically, the original directional features in the dataset are first transformed into quaternion form. Then, spatio-temporal forward and reverse neighbors are identified using KD trees, and their connection strengths are evaluated via a kernel density estimation algorithm to determine the final set of neighbors. Subsequently, based on the connection strengths determined in the previous step, we perform noise reduction on the features using discrete wavelet transform. The noise-reduced features are then weighted and fused to generate a new feature representation. After feature fusion, the Adaptive Dynamic Convolutional Neural Network (ADC) proposed in this paper is cascaded with the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network to further extract hybrid spatio-temporal feature information from the dataset, culminating in the final terrain classification. Experiments on the terrain type classification dataset demonstrate that our method achieves an average accuracy of 97.46% and an AUC of 99.80%, significantly outperforming other commonly used algorithms in the field. Furthermore, the effectiveness of each module in the proposed method is further demonstrated through ablation experiments.

2018 Composing Semantic Collage for Image Retargeting
abstract
Image retargeting has been applied to display images of any size via devices with various resolutions (e.g., cell phone, TV monitors). To fit an image with the target resolution, certain unimportant regions need to be deleted or distorted and the key problem is to determine the importance of each pixel. Existing methods predict pixel-wise importance in a bottom-up manner via eye fixation estimation or saliency detection. In contrast, the proposed algorithm estimates the pixel-wise importance based on a top-down criterion where the target image maintains the semantic meaning of the original image. To this end, several semantic components corresponding to foreground objects, action contexts, and background regions are extracted. The semantic component maps are integrated by a classification guided fusion network. Specifically, the deep network classifies the original image as object or scene-oriented, and fuses the semantic component maps according to classification results. The network output, referred to as the semantic collage with the same size as the original image, is then fed into any existing optimization method to generate the target image. Extensive experiments are carried out on the RetargetMe dataset and S-Retarget database developed in this work. Experimental results demonstrate the merits of the proposed algorithm over the state-of-the-art image retargeting methods.

2017 Adult Image and Video Recognition by a Deep Multicontext Network and Fine-to-Coarse Strategy
abstract
Adult image and video recognition is an important and challenging problem in the real world. Low-level feature cues do not produce good enough information, especially when the dataset is very large and has various data distributions. This issue raises a serious problem for conventional approaches. In this article, we tackle this problem by proposing a deep multicontext network with fine-to-coarse strategy for adult image and video recognition. We employ a deep convolution networks to model fusion features of sensitive objects in images. Global contexts and local contexts are both taken into consideration and are jointly modeled in a unified multicontext deep learning framework. To make the model more discriminative for diverse target objects, we investigate a novel hierarchical method, and a task-specific fine-to-coarse strategy is designed to make the multicontext modeling more suitable for adult object recognition. Furthermore, some recently proposed deep models are investigated. Our approach is extensively evaluated on four different datasets. One dataset is used for ablation experiments, whereas others are used for generalization experiments. Results show significant and consistent improvements over the state-of-the-art methods.

2016 Beauty eMakeup: A Deep Makeup Transfer System
abstract
In this demo, we present a Beauty eMakeup System to automatically recommend the most suitable makeup for a female and synthesis the makeup on her face. Given a before-makeup face, her most suitable makeup is determined automatically. Then, both the before-makeup and the reference faces are fed into the proposed Deep Transfer Network to generate the after-makeup face. Our end-to-end makeup transfer network have several nice properties including: (1) with complete functions: including foundation, lip gloss, and eye shadow transfer; (2) cosmetic specific: different cosmetics are transferred in different manners; (3) localized: different cosmetics are applied on different facial regions; (4) producing naturally looking results without obvious artifacts; (5) controllable makeup lightness: various results from light makeup to heavy makeup can be generated. Extensive experimental evaluations and analysis on testing images well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system.

2014 Inductive Transfer Deep Hashing for Image Retrieval
abstract
With the explosive increase of online images, fast similarity search is increasingly critical for large scale image retrieval. Several hashing methods have been proposed to accelerate image retrieval, a promising way is semantic hashing which designs compact binary codes for a large number of images so that semantically similar images are mapped to similar codes. Supervised methods can handle such semantic similarity but they are prone to overfitting when the labeled data is few or noisy. In this paper, we concentrate on this issue and propose a novel Inductive Transfer Deep Hashing (ITDH) approach for semantic hashing based image retrieval. A transfer deep learning algorithm has been employed to learn the robust image representation, and the neighborhood-structure preserved method has been used to mapped the image into discriminative hash codes in hamming space. The combination of the two techniques ensures that we obtain a good feature representation and a fast query speed without depending on large amounts of labeled data. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach is superior to some state-of-the-art methods.

2014 Kernelized Neighborhood Preserving Hashing for Social-Network-Oriented Digital Fingerprints
abstract
Digital fingerprinting is a promising approach to protect multimedia content from unauthorized redistribution. However, the existing fingerprints are unsuitable for social network tasks, because they fail to represent the social network structure, which incurs inefficient fingerprint coding. In addition, they are infeasible to efficiently trace colluders due to the large scale of social networks. To address these problems, we design a novel fingerprint, which consists of community relationship code and user identification code. Aiming to preserving the social network structure, we propose a kernelized neighborhood preserving hashing method to generate community relationship codes. The proposed method assigns similar community relationship codes to users in the same or close communities, which improves the anticollusion performance. Because the community relationship codes are binary and neighborhood preserving, they can be used for fast indexing and retrieval. To accelerate the collusion fingerprint tracing, we treat the community relationship codes as index keys to construct a hash table and an inverted index table. Based on the tables, we correspondingly propose an efficient fingerprint detection method. Extensive experiments show that the proposed fingerprint is suitable for social network tasks and the real colluders can be efficiently identified by the proposed fingerprint detection approach.
