| 2025 | KANTrust: A Multi-Omics Framework for Uncertainty-Aware Disease SubtypingabstractThe integration of multi-omics data, including DNA methylation, mRNA expression, and miRNA profiles, is crucial for accurate disease subtyping and outcome prediction in complex disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and various cancers. However, the inherent heterogeneity and inconsistency among omics views present significant challenges for reliable data fusion. To address these issues, we propose KANTrust, a novel framework for trustworthy multi-omics classification that explicitly models both epistemic and aleatoric uncertainties. Our method combines a Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN)enhanced robust representation module, a contrastive evidence consistency module, and an evidence-theoretic fusion module to achieve reliable multi-view integration. KANTrust adaptively highlights informative features within each omics modality, promotes semantic alignment across views, and quantifies uncertainty through a Dempster-Shafer framework. Experimental evaluations on four real-world biomedical datasets demonstrate that KANTrust consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both binary and multi-class classification tasks. | 2025 | MVP-CBM: Multi-layer Visual Preference-enhanced Concept Bottleneck Model for Explainable Medical Image ClassificationabstractThe concept bottleneck model (CBM), as a technique improving interpretability via linking predictions to human-understandable concepts, makes high-risk and life-critical medical image classification credible. Typically, existing CBM methods associate the final layer of visual encoders with concepts to explain the model’s predictions. However, we empirically discover the phenomenon of concept preference variation, that is, the concepts are preferably associated with the features at different layers than those only at the final layer; yet a blind last-layer-based association neglects such a preference variation and thus weakens the accurate correspondences between features and concepts, impairing model interpretability. To address this issue, we propose a novel Multi-layer Visual Preference-enhanced Concept Bottleneck Model (MVP-CBM), which comprises two key novel modules: (1) intra-layer concept preference modeling, which captures the preferred association of different concepts with features at various visual layers, and (2) multi-layer concept sparse activation fusion, which sparsely aggregates concept activations from multiple layers to enhance performance. Thus, by explicitly modeling concept preferences, MVP-CBM can comprehensively leverage multi-layer visual information to provide a more nuanced and accurate explanation of model decisions. Extensive experiments on several public medical classification benchmarks demonstrate that MVP-CBM achieves state-of-the-art accuracy and interoperability, verifying its superiority. | 2021 | EDL-COVID: Ensemble Deep Learning for COVID-19 Case Detection From Chest X-Ray ImagesabstractEffective screening of COVID-19 cases has been becoming extremely important to mitigate and stop the quick spread of the disease during the current period of COVID-19 pandemic worldwide. In this article, we consider radiology examination of using chest X-ray images, which is among the effective screening approaches for COVID-19 case detection. Given deep learning is an effective tool and framework for image analysis, there have been lots of studies for COVID-19 case detection by training deep learning models with X-ray images. Although some of them report good prediction results, their proposed deep learning models might suffer from overfitting, high variance, and generalization errors caused by noise and a limited number of datasets. Considering ensemble learning can overcome the shortcomings of deep learning by making predictions with multiple models instead of a single model, we proposeEDL-COVID, an ensemble deep learning model employing deep learning and ensemble learning. The EDL-COVID model is generated by combining multiple snapshot models of COVID-Net, which has pioneered in an open-sourced COVID-19 case detection method with deep neural network processed chest X-ray images, by employing a proposed weighted averaging ensembling method that is aware of different sensitivities of deep learning models on different classes types. Experimental results show that EDL-COVID offers promising results for COVID-19 case detection with an accuracy of 95%, better than COVID-Net of 93.3%. | 2004 | E2WTRP: an energy-efficient wireless token ring protocolabstractA wireless token ring protocol (WTRP) built on top of the IEEE 802.11 distributed control function (DCF) provides guaranteed QoS in terms of high throughput and bounded transmission delay. It is also applicable in a small-scale wireless ad hoc network where all nodes can hear each other and where throughput and delay requirements are stringent. As nodes in the network have different traffic styles and the number of nodes ready for transmission is highly dynamic, the aggregate throughput and delay of WTRP is degraded. Furthermore, each node keeps on forwarding the token, even though it is not ready for transmission, thus the power consumed by inactive nodes is high. An energy-efficient wireless token ring protocol is proposed to reduce the power consumption. It is shown that E/sup 2/WTRP could prolong the standby time for inactive nodes two-fold. | 2003 | A bandwidth guarantee source routing algorithm in ad hoc wireless networks (BGSR)abstractWe propose a new algorithm based on a widely used routing scheme of ad hoc network - dynamic source routing (DSR), which is bandwidth guarantee source routing (BGSR). In this scheme, with admission control, the flooding overload is effectively decreased. And with resource reservation, quality of service (QoS) is guaranteed. Also a new bandwidth calculation algorithm - available bandwidth measurement algorithm (ABMA) - is presented in detail. Then the simulation results further illustrate the achievements of BGSR.
